What Is The Most Expensive Thing You Have Ever Owned and Currently Own?

Getting bored at home so I am curious to know what is the most expensive thing you have ever owned or currently own?

I think for me it is my gaming pc setup which is over 4.5k if i include desk monitors.

Never owned a car otherwise I assume most people would put that.

I am prepared for the houses.

But curious about other stuff that is not the obvious like lambo porsche or waterfront property lol

    • If you don’t own your family why are they on the list? As the question is about things you own. What kind of watches do you own?

Forgive me senpai, but… they are my own family (I'm sorry that was horrible)

What kind of watches do you own?

Nothing really over the top, an Omega speedmaster "moonwatch" professional and a seamaster coax. Rest is fairly standard fare, a seiko GMT, Orient mako, Casio Gshock (about 9 years and ticking without a battery change), Casio Mudmaster (GWG-2000), Tissot T-touch II in titanium, Vostok amphibia, and a Galaxy smartwatch.

I'd love to. Everything I own has been bought on the basis that it's likely to appreciate so doesnt really 'cost' anything

I've got a few dozen domain names worth a few thousand each. But I'm convinced 30 years from now, when we have thousands of top level domains, that .com will become even more valuable. The more .xyz's and .oogleboogle's there is, the more special .com will become. My only regret is not buying more of them. One domain name that was available that I passed up to save $5 a year was sold last year for US$70,000. Some of my hundreds of domains are earning as affiliate sites, so they pay for themselves. But I seriously regret not taking domain names more seriously when I was younger, back when the yearly renewal fee seemed like so much money.

    • That is actually very interesting

But what's so special about .com domains versus others? (Genuine question, apologies if I just lack networking knowledge) Perhaps people will just shift to non-.com domains being normalised in everyday usage

      • +2

.com is king, it’s the gold standard. In Australia .com.au is king and in the uk .co.uk is king etc., but in America it’s the standard. It doesn’t really matter so much anymore because Google finds what you want even if it ends in .cc, but until the generation who grew up with .com dies, .com will be the most best. Adult celebrities will want their .com version of their name and will sooner hyphenate than use anything else. Not having the .com of your own name or business makes you a joke. Younger people might be happy with .cc or whatever else, but they don’t really matter when it comes to pumping up value of domains anyway.

        • I thought they don't let you keep the domain names if you don't really use it here in Australia?

          • +1

@superuser: It's not hard to think of a legitimate use. Yeah you'll get crazy emails from people who think they should own it, but if you didn't register it primarily to sell to them and if you aren't impersonating their organisation or brand or whatever, then they have no avenue under the law to get it off you for free. There's probably a fine line between legit use and squatting.

Maybe should be worded: What is the most expensive hobby you own?

For me it's 3d printer/ing. Started with a ender 3 and did some upgrades (still have it but it's just sitting in my garage) now have a ratrig v-core 3.1, 500mm which was close to $3k to build. I'm now looking at building a lowriderv3 cnc.

Although after posting that I forgot I also have a thundercat which is a bit of fun in the surf they've gone up in value post covid so it's value is around 13k.

  • My Business - easily. Worth in the 8 figures.

    • What do you do?

Started an IT company in 2015 and sold it in 2021 to a large global business. You will never get rich working for a wage, not that was particularly the goal anyway - took me a while to figure that out.

        • Did you have much free time along the way or did you spend all your waking hours on the business mostly?

I can never give up my relaxation/netflix/gaming time although I would imagine there is some way to find a bit of both.

That downtime is priceless to me.

          • @AlienC: I get that - got to give to get I guess - but in my case I generally work business hours (apart from having to travel a fair bit) - its more about the risk your willing to take and taking the plunge. Oh and a good idea and one that generates value for people.

        • So 8 figures and on ozbargain. Sounds good

@MrTillets: Warren Buffet eats at McDonalds and pays' with coupons. I would suggest a good chunk of people looking to save a bit of cash dont technically need to do so. As the phrase goes. Why pay more.

            • @Meridianz: Lol ok

              • +5

@MrTillets: Mate, he's not wrong. You do realise there are a number of OzBers with money who love the bargains on stuff they were going to buy anyway?

Case in point, the folks buying the several thousand dollar headphones (focal, Audeze etc), RTX 4090, a 7k coffee machine, a 2k robovac etc.

    • If you are on 8 figures, how come you still visit ozbargain?

      • +7

Because why would I not save money if I can? Its a habit of a lifetime, built over the years where I had a lot less. I actually enjoy it as well and I like the community on here and the NZ version.

Thanks mate, I appreciate your input, I love this community, this is somewhere I love to hang out with, I love to post deals to help people's lives.
