Insert spiel about first post here.

Was looking for a Polar H10 to replace my Garmin HRM which is on the fritz (also because I don't like ANT+). This place had it at the lowest price, even with shipping.

HRM on Apple Watch is like a baby toy compared to this one!

      • +2

        In what aspects?

      • +1

Eh, they perform similarly enough in terms of HRM. Source. Though of course the Apple Watch costs an arm and a leg compared to the Polar.

        • Apple watch HRM is very accurate but its not going to perform like a chest strap in all situations. Quantified scientists testing is very limited.

    • +1

I didn't know Apple watch came with chest strap. Are they good?

      • +1

No, no, no… you wear the watch on your chest.

Or you get a heart rate monitor and pair it with your Apple Watch so you get more accurate tracking, especially for certain activities, usually running is better with HRM. Similarly when riding my motorbikes, the wrist monitor gets some interference, so HRM is the go.

      • Reason for wearing HRM while riding motorbike?

        • I am a 'if I measure it, I can manage it" kind of person. Understanding heart rate in various activities. I don't race anymore, but really good for understanding calorific burn and ensuring am refuelling myself as well as my bike.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I regularly wear my apple watch along with my Wahoo chest strap when I'm out cycling. Every single time the Apple watch is within 1 - 2bpm of the chest strap over the whole range of 60bpm - 190bpm.

      • Perceived value. Logic and data out the window. I like product, I spend money, I have product. Therefore, product must be good!

I wonder how many people then use the data to actually make good decisions.

  • Does this connect to galaxy watch 5 and allow data to be recorded in samsung health?

    • +1

I'm using third party app called 'Sportygo' to connect to Polar Verity optical heart rate sensor and it works flawlessly. This app is free to use as a trial version for 60 minutes. But I bought the Bluetooth sensor package for about $3.5 to use without any limitation.
If you have Samsung health connected to Strava, it will be synced. Otherwise you could use an app called 'SyncMyTracks' to copy from activities from various platforms.

Sometimes I hate this site. Literally purchased this a few hours ago at full price. So far so good though set up was a bit more annoying than I would have liked. Seems to work with most apps, I just got it going with andriod sleep.

Heart rate strap. Is this 2010?

    • +11

Pretty sure people still have hearts, despite what may be widely reported.

    • Wrist based optical HRM has limitations, even Apple watch which is very accurate.Chest strap is the way to go for many people who want accuracy and/or dont want to use apple watch.

Required for some devices to track heart rate together with all other data being collected. e.g. used in combination with a bike computer

Just grab a Magene one from AliExpress. Roughly around $15USD and work like a charm. Lasted me a number of years riding thousands of kms in sweaty Thailand. No need for a name brand HRM.

  • The Anko HRM is on clearance at Kmart again for $15 if anyone is after a cheapy
