See if good guys, jb, it sometime will price match, be safer bet?

They are noted on the TCL website under where to buy on multiple models

        https://www.tcl.com/au/en/tvs/85p745

I don't think TCL would link through to dodgy sites… they don't even link through to Appliance Central or Stan Cash etc.

I say support who support you. Clearly TGG want to make at least $500 off you!

        • Leading edge group has been a distributor of music at least since the days of cassette tapes, used to be leading edge music before they diversified. Should be fine to buy from them, esp considering the good guys actually have a bad rep if yiu ask me

      • +1

Doing this now through Betta Electrical.

        See how we go.

      • TGG,JB,HN,Binglee none of them will price match it,all of them said the price are below the wholesale price, but the company have ABN and established in 2022,if you trust OP or if you can charge back when things goes wrong then buy it .

  • "sorry we don't provide service to your area"

Must only deliver to metro areas?

    • I'm in the Hunter and they deliver to me, we're regional.

Send them an email? I sent them an email before I purchased and they responded pretty quickly.

Awesome thank you, got one.. cannot wait, first 85" and what a price, wow!!!

  • +3

Awesome price, what's even more impressive is that they deliver to Perth for Free. Ordered, thanks OP. I don't see this deal lasting that long..

Just went to Harvey Norman and saw this TV side by side with more expensive TCL mini LED C series TV and Samsung QLED and picture quality was pretty comparable. Both Samsung and high end TCL were brighter but other than that the colours, motion etc look fabulous. I'm really happy so far..

      • +1

Great work, thanks for posting… It's always the case, once a TV is at home without any other comparisons, setup on a great 4K source minus the TV OS in use, the quality will be pretty impressive. Can't wait for this TV.

        • +2

They (Harvey Norman) had put some poor quality video on this one and a really nice 4K content on the Samsung, which gave me a really bad first impression (I was like 'oh dear') then I asked one of the staff members to play the same stuff on both, after which it was pretty evident that how impressive the TCL is.. I even thought the colours were nicer in the TCL than the QLED (to be fair though, this is probably because Samsung by default had a higher brightness hence some brighter areas looked kind of washed out whereas the TCL had a nicer contrasty look due to lower brightness). In my opinion, this TCL will be fantastic for a room that's not very bright or with less external lights coming in.

Bugger - my 50" Panasonic Plasma from 2011 just took its last breath a few minutes back. Time for a new tv. RIP

    • +1

So did mine a couple weeks ago. I went with a Hisense 75” mini-led

      • Looking at these at the moment, which model did you buy and what’re your thoughts?

        • 75U6KAU for about $1500. Mainly for sports and streamed content. Happy with it so far. It’s very bright and being a relatively new model I’m waiting to find some calibration details to get the picture settings to my liking. Obviously you get better sound using a sound bar.

    • +7

My 2012 Panasonic plasma still kicking although I had to fit a new power supply a few years back and recently the screen started getting terrible image retention after a short time on, until fixed that with a voltage hack accessible via service menu.

      • +1

My 60” Panasonic plasma is still strong too probably 10 years old.

If I can find somewhere to move that I can buy this!

    • +4

RIP indeed, still using my 2008 Pioneer Kuro 50" as my primary TV, I'll be devastated when it goes

    • +1

My condolences. Mine from 2013 is going strong.

    • +3

You lucky sod. Mine won't die and I refuse to buy a new TV until it does.

    • Panasonic plasma household here. I've previously had a THP42PX70A and a THP54S20A, current sets…
THP58S20A still going strong, doesn't get burn in, maybe some light image retention from fox sports or gaming, but it goes away pretty quick. Looking forward to watching Bathurst on it next weekend.
THP60ST60A still going strong, but does get bad image retention. Picture quality is so good I refuse to watch anything with a solid/coloured static image.
Both were cheap gets 2nd hand - S20A I've had for over 5 years (TV itself is over 10 years old), 60A over 2 years which still has faint burn in from previous owner.

    • I reckon the Panasonic plasma TV's from 2011-12 would still have better picture quality than this TCL?

      • Highly doubt this. I used to have a plasma TV back in 2014 and bought an LED mid tier TV to replace that. At the time there were many discussions LCD LEDs are vastly inferior to plasma TVs hence I did a comparison side by side. Whereas plasma was pretty impressive in comparison for an old TV, it wasn't enough to change my decision to go to LED which was still marginally better. That was in 2014. Technology is hugely improved from then to now and I can't see how on earth a 10 year old plasma TV can deliver better pictures than a latest tech QLED TV. Simply, no way. But nostalgic reasons (my father still strongly believe his Honda Mike bought in 1983 is better than any newer models - which to him is probably correct, but I'd rather buy a newer one myself).

        • Not sure what brand plasma you had, but I am referring specifically to the last ST and VT series Panasonic plasmas from 2012 - 2014. They were, and still are amazing TV's. I have often been to friends houses who have newer 4k LCD TV's and I am still amazed when I get home to see my Pana still has a vastly superior image in terms if skin tones, depth of colour and blacks, and fast motion handling. Even the in-built speakers are really good. I have it hooked up to a 5.1 surround system but hardly use it as the TV sound is good enough for most viewing situations.

    • Mines still kicking…

    • My $400 47" 4K Chinesium is still going strong from 2012. Way before 4k was a thing here.
Key is the backlight sits at around 30%

    • +1

I am still watching my 50" VT20 from March 2011 right now. It is still amazing to watch any content on it. I will be devastated if I had to replace it. Not even sure if OLED would be cheap enough when the time comes.

    • Did you help it on its way?

    • back from the dead… I replaced the SC board (having experienced the 7 flashing led issue) and up returned the picture!

      My TH-P50ST30A lives another day!

About 5 years back I had a similar 7 flashing led issue with my original TH-P50ST30A and had no idea what was wrong with it. Someone was selling the same TV on scamtree for $50 - so I grabbed the second hand replacement, and kept all the boards and parts from my original.

Turns out my original TV had a stuffed SU board - but the SC board was in perfect condition.

  • Yeah the free delivery across all their products (like AOL) is impressive!

I've found them cheaper by a few bucks on a lot of items but this one is insane.

  • +1

if this is legit and they honor the price4, it's an amazing price

  • -4

Omg it has a 120fps panel supporting VRR!
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/r745-qled

  • Notice that their 65 inch price is only slightly cheaper and 75” is much dearer. Odd.

    • The 75" model notably supported hdmi 2.1 which the 85" does not, which can be a deal breaker for latest gen gamers

      • That could be it I guess.the model you linked to is an R not a P. Possible they didn’t release the 120hz in our market at all?

  • Would this be any good when watching sport in HD/4K?

    • Lol what do you watch tv through? Kayo doesnt do 4K (and barely HD imo).

not good reviews though. eg from JB

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/tcl-85-p745-4k-ultra-hd-led-google-tv-2023#reviews

    Slow, fuzzy wobbly

Well I have had this TV for a couple of weeks now and am regretting spending the money. Watching sport and the picture is terrible, no matter what setting I set it too. The picture is slow to react, unclear, fuzzy and wobbles on quick transitions. The remote is a pain. Not user friendly whatso ever. It has all the apps etc you might want but its just terrible. I bought this after a recommendation form JBHIFI staff so a bit annoyed at that.

    • +11

Its got an average of 4.2 and you cherry pick a bad review? Lol come on.

    • +2

My friend has 75P735 different model, and the quality is pretty good, only issue was the OS is abit slow to react and etc.. due to the cheap chipset they used. I have the 65C835 and I dont have this problem. If you are concerned, buy the C model.

      • Thanks guys, do you mean C745 model or something else?
I am after something within $3k budget and happy to wait for upcming Nov/Dec sale.
Any specific models I should keep eye on?

      • I got the 75P735. Switched to the google tv app only mode. Quite snippy now. Good picture and sound.

        • Where is the option? I will tell me friend.

          • +1

@simonizmaster: @simonizmaster it's in the google account settings

Thanks @TheMandalorian I just did this and seems to have improved.

      • The solution for that is to spend about $100 and get a Chromecast/firestick/appletv or whatevever and use that.

    • +1

Note the JB Hifi reviews are for the whole P745 series, not specifically the 85”. The above review is for the 50”.

    • Well spotted. When something is cheap, there is usually a reason. A shop might be closing down but the manufacturer is just generating cash flow.

      • -1

This is exactly what you need, problem solved.. no need to use the TVs OS ever again.

        • You do if you want to watch free to air though. A pain as the streaming apps don’t cut it for quality if you rely on 7 or 9 for sports.

  • +3

Stupid jb won’t price match on the phone, said they have issue opening this website and can’t verify, go in store they say the same thing and said best they can do is $1350. It can open in anyones computer and phone but not jbs stupid pc

    • +1

      I got the same response

    • Got the same thing with Good Guys! Hopefully this price is honoured as the banner on their page promotes this price as a "flash" sale.

    • I got the same from their online chat. So you already went in store and got the same run around?

      • +4

Yea I am still in the store now, i complaint it to the manager and she’s asking in their own group chat and see what they can do, they said there is a virus warning showing on their system but I highly doubt they gonna match it though. Will report back

        • +1

You are the real MVP. I want to go in store to get it matched but dont want to bother if they will fob it off

          • +7

@Kamppinator: Finally they agree to match $1197 but I have to pay for shipping as they have no stock in store. So wil be $1197 + $59 shipping. The only reason I am buying from JB is because I have a $1000 gift card that I want to use it.

            • @ozvictor: I asked nicely and they just had a generic excuse of there not being sufficient information on the website and where they are obtaining their stock. Im not too fussed about it so not pushing it but definitely seems they will try wiggle out of matching if they can

              • +5

                @Kamppinator: Support the op store.
                Fk JB

                • +1

@ChatCPT: I wanted to do same as ozvictor since i have 15% off gift cards but i agree this store should be supported

                  • +2

@Kamppinator: I will not suggest buying from Jb, just find out they are not the participant store for TCL Cashback. JB have their own promo for this TV, it says on their website you will get a $100 JB gift card. But the store manager said the gift card is not in conjunction with the price match. I called head office and they said it’s wrong I should still be eligible for the $100 JB gift card even if I did price match. Now they are investigating and will call me back tomorrow. Overall horrible experience, just buy the TV in the OP store is better

                    • @ozvictor: Sunday afternoon well spent~!

                    • +1

@ozvictor: I have had 1 other time i tried to price match instore at JB and was very underwhelmed by the poor service. The online price match can be ok but obviously not in this case with them claiming not being able to access the site as a cop out.

    • What a load of bollocks. If true, they surely must be intentionally blocking that website.

    • I did online chat and they said don’t price match this store and under cost price.

  • +1

Omg i want to throw my phone to my 4 months old tv so i can buy this

    • or just buy this and have 2 TVs instead of one.

      Surround sound AND surround vision

    • +1

How old is your phone? Got a deal for phone as well?

  • +2

don’t think my desk will take 85” tv as monitor

otherwise good price seems wider than wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwqhd which is a bonus

  • +4

Never in 10 million years would I ever buy a TCL tv after owning 2. Horrendous menus that don’t make sense. Slow, crash, average picture. Half the things advertised don’t work.

Don’t do it, buy a Samsung with Ads, you’ll be better off.

    • I bought a recent model and I have no issues with their smart tv features. Mind you all I do is limit the number of apps and run everything through kodi. I get zero ads..

    • +2

Which models did you own? They are all significantly different. Your experience can help people if they know what you are referring to

      • +1

I personally always expect to need a smart tv dongle or device like Apple TV/fire tv ect with these devices. But my experience won’t help others that use their devices differently. Most people load these tvs up with Disney+, Netflix, fta apps, games etc and that can cause any of these built in smart tvs features to run like crap. It’s probably me just accessing everything via one light app. Models come into play when it’s an older model the previous user could be talking about, the processors the smart tv use now versus a few years ago could see a massive difference in performance. Smart tv features or lack there off is an easy fix, if two tvs are similar but one is substantially cheaper with a poorer built in smart tv features then so what? A separate device will always offer a superior experience and can be upgraded when needed.

    • +2

Not all of the range is bad, they appear to be innovating quite a bit

Check out HDTVtest on YouTube, Vincent regular interviews them and you'll see there's a variety of products from crap to suprisingly high end

    • +2

The reason I'm coming back to TCL is due to owning 2 previous models.
They've been awesome and I never rely on the TV's own OS.
Always use a Fire TV or PC to watch movies, for the price & warranty, unbelievable!!!
      Gone up from a 65 & 75 to this, can't wait.

      • +1

Perhaps off topic, what do you do with your old TVs? Selling a TV seems like a huge hassle with the lowballers and how difficult it is to transport them

      • +1

Would be amazing if TCL had a system option that turned off the smart functions so it would boot up quicker etc.

      • +3

Seriously, what kind of media Aficionado would ever complain about and TV os?

All you need is to change HDMI input to the real devices handling stuff for you.

    • +1

      I've got 2 x TCL's.
First one was a cheap 65in for kids room. Agree it was laggy and garbage. Picture was pretty ordinary aswell. Added a MiBox then a CCWGTV to make it ok-ish. It now used as an outside TV rarely used.
Latest is a 75C835 mini led. Absolutely no complaints whatsoever. But its one of their top of the range at the time. I also mainly use a Shield TV with it.

  • ordered one, will be nice as a secondary 'friends coming over' tv to complement my main C3

    • +4

Why would you make friends watch anything else but the C3?

  • Pulled the trigger

  • thanks, bought one
Will be paring with my Shield TV, instead of using the TV's android system, which seems to be slow, according to reviews

  • Bought one, thankfully the wife doesn't want to use my guts as outdoor decorations! Or maybe shes just going to wait until I go to sleep….

  • This or Hisense mini led?
This is a lot cheaper. Tempted but no delivery to rural area

  • Is this tv generally better than samsung crystal series bu8000?

Im also worry about the motion blurr as it has 60hz only. Anyone has this tv notice this when watching 4k sports or fast paced game?
