½ Price Hamilton Everyday Face SPF 50+ 200ml $13.99 or 75ml $7.49 + Shipping ($0 C&C) @ Chemist Warehouse

750

It's been about a year since Hamilton Everyday face sunscreen is half price again at Chemist Warehouse. Unfortunately the full price has gone up by a few dollars, so it's not quite as cheap as $12.49/200ml last year.

75ml is now $7.49

Hamilton has actually reformulated this product according to a May 2023 submission to the TGA, but the Chemist Warehouse warehouse still lists the active ingredients of the old formula, so I'm not sure which version they are carrying, it may depend on the store. The old formula was great (matte finish, non-greasy, very lightly tinted), but I can't vouch for the texture new formula since I haven't tried it. New formula is still tinted based on the inclusion of iron oxides. Please check the full ingredients as linked below. You can tell which formula it is from the AUST L number on the bottle.

AUST L 408954 (May 2023 version)

Active ingredients: bemotrizinol 10 mg/g, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane 50 mg/g, ethylhexyl triazone 50 mg/g, octocrylene 30 mg/g

Link to full ingredients doc

AUST L 240532

Active ingredients: 4-methylbenzylidene camphor 20 mg/g, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane 30 mg/g, ethylhexyl triazone 20 mg/g , octocrylene 30 mg/g

Link to full ingredients doc

Note that sunscreen purchases do not count towards the free beauty bag

If anyone gets hold of the new formula as is happy to start using it, please comment about the texture and finish!

Really like this sunscreen. Feels very light and has an excellent matte texture. No funny smell either. Switched over to this from the NIVEA UV Face Shine Control SPF50 as felt this was lighter.

    • Just wondering - are you referring to the old or the 2023 formula?

      • Whichever is the current formula. Only began using this product a month ago.

        • It's hard to say as stores may be still carrying the old formula even though the new formula was submitted to the TGA in May 2023. Your product will have the 'AUST L' number on it.

@moocher: Just checked and it does. Happy with the formula.

            • @Phlume: Do you have the old one - AUST L 240532?

I'm hoping someone has tried the new one to report back :P I know the old one was great and I'm hoping the new one will be too

How is this compared to la Roche posay?

    • +2

I can only speak for the old Hamilton formula so I'm not sure if the comparison is helpful.

LRP is more liquid-y and more of a natural finish, Hamilton (old formula) is more matte on my combination skin

    • Personally strongly prefer my LRP, much less greasy and doesn't make me break out.

    • I found lrp pills for me

    • +1

I find LRP to be slightly lighter in texture. This is still very good compared to LRP and much cheaper.

  • I like this one! Use it every day

Almost bought this full price the other day. Lucky I’m lazy.

    • +5

Hopefully you're not too lazy that you miss the sale lol

  • Can anyone recommend a good mineral sunscreen for the face? I seem to be allergic to something in the chemical ones :(

This Bondi Sands SPF 50 face moisturiser has good reviews but I've never used it myself. Zinc oxide is the only filter. Some comments say it pills under make-up though.

Edit: This appears to be tinted:

Bondi Sands Sunny Daze is formulated with a universal tint for an invisible finish, leaving no white cast

  • I love hamilton! Both the 75ml and 200ml. I stocked up last year when it was on sale. Unfortunately as much as I want to buy more I can not.

    • Filters degrade after 2 years. Just dont get too much

      • +1

As long as it's stored properly and used before the expiry date printed on the tube, it should be ok.

  • Nice! I've been meaning to try this brand.

I'm currently using Cancer Council Face Day Wear, which I quite like it and I'm about to finish it.

I was also using it for my forearms and legs as well, when I wore shirts and shorts at work. Can this Hamilton Everyday Face also be used the same way? I should probably also buy a body sunscreen, but when I work in the sun at work, it's only for less than 3 hours and I'd rather not carry 2 bottles of sunscreen.

The Hamilton has got a slight tint that may stain any light clothing. Generally if you're working in the sun, you should be using something with a bit of water resistance for sweat etc. Something like this (wait for 40-50% off)

      • +1

Oh right! Yeah, I overlooked the Hamilton with the water resistance. I'll keep an eye out for the DermaVeen on sale. Thank you moocher.

      • I tried my friend's Dermaveen and it smelt bad. I did not like it.

  • the USA's FDA will not approve (for a few more years) US based sunscreen manufacturers to include Bemotrizinol

So it must be Effective 😎

Hope to find the new formula on special near me

  • My son plays cricket and so he goes through a fair amount of sunscreen but it always seems to turn his white shirt yellow especially around the neck and ends of the sleeves. Does anyone know if this fancy stuff will do the same (thinking it might be a formulation type issue) or if there is a sunscreen that hopefully won't do that to his clothes? Currently use Nivea or Cancer Council which I buy in 500ml bottles.

    • +1

You most likely will get a mark cause it's a beige kinda colour. Plus it's only in a 200ml bottle so u are better off getting a large 500ml bottle of the other brands.

Stains are due to Avobenzone (it has a few names eg parsol, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane). Best option is to apply sunscreen 15 minutes before putting on the clothes, but that doesn’t really help with a kid or for reapplying

You can find Avobenzone free sunscreen but it’s generally expensive; cheaper just to wash the shirts well! But some of the reef friendly stuff might be an option.

Zinc oxide sunscreen doesn’t contain avobenzone, but it’s a bit of a pain to apply over large surfaces. But you could perhaps use it around the neck? (and, as a former fast bowler, a little bit of zinc oxide on the forearm is ‘useful’ for shining the ball. Or so I’m told…)

      • Thanks so much for this - very useful. I'll do some research. Although, given the "shining" properties of zinc oxide, maybe we just go with that… :-)

    • +3

I had the same problem with my son’s white school shirts. I googled it and tried everything from bleach to vinegar, lemon juice etc But eventually the only thing that worked was Solvol liquid hand cleaner. U need to scrub it into the stain and then I left it for a while before washing. Give it a go as I was close to throwing them out otherwise.

      • +1

Thanks for that - I have tried everything as well - even left it soaking in Nappisan for a full week with regular scrubbing and it made no difference. I'll look up Solvol now.

  • Any zinc oxide sunscreens? Don’t like “chemical” based sunscreens. Just not working with my skin.
I can tolerate zinc oxide based “physical” UV barrier
    sunscreens.

  • Personally prefer La Roche Possay compared to this Hamilton sunscreen. i find this sunscreen exacerbates sensitive skin.

  • This compared to cancer council facial sunscreen (the pink one)?

    • The formulas are almost identical except the Hamilton has kaolin clay (absorbs oil) and iron oxides (very sheer tint). This one is slightly more matte.

  • This is why I love OzBargain. So many people in the know about what's good and bad, what nasties are in them and so forth. Lots of life lessons learnt from people here over the years.
