1/2 Price RRP Hamilton: SPF 50+ Everyday Face Cream 75g $6.82, 200ml $12.49 + $8.95 Del ($0 C&C/ $50 Order) @ Chemist Warehouse

270

Hamilton Everyday Face is an Australian-made high protection face sunscreen suitable for daily use with a matte finish. The contents are tinted but blends to invisible. The formula is very very similar to Cancer Council SPF 50+ Day Wear Face Matte Invisible and Natio Daily Defence Face Moisturiser SPF 50+ and Aldi's Ombra Daily Defence Light Feel Sunscreen SPF50+ Face Lotion - all four have identical sunscreen filters and almost the same inactive ingredients. The Hamilton version has a slight tweak with the addition of kaolin clay and some iron oxides which gives it a slight tint. It's very comfortable to wear daily, no stickiness, and layers well under make-up.

It doesn't go on sale as often as other brands, and especially not at 1/2 price. The 200ml bottle at $12.49 ($6.25/100ml) works out to be cheaper per ml than the Aldi Ombra Daily Defence SPF50+ Face Moisturiser

Yes! I saw the hamilton on catalogue yesterday. Did they just introduced the 200ml bottle for hamilton everyday?

    • +2

This is the first time I've seen the 200ml bottle too.

    Matte

    Is it ladies only?

    • Matte is a boys name. No girls allowed

      • -2

Are you kidding me? Matte is a texture of a colour like matte black and normally makeup products use that term

      • It’s usually written as Matt, because it it short for Matthew. MechanicalCanine is correct, by putting an “e” on the end it would be the feminised version in French.

    • +1

Not at all. Its just means it won't make your face look shiny like a lot of sunscreens do. Think glossy vs matte finish paint jobs or photo prints.

  • +1

It says re-apply every 2 hours, which is something I thought people might be interested in knowing.

    • +6

For those that don't know, all sunscreens need to be reapplied every two hours..

      • -6

        Incorrect.

        • +2

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong but it is a general rule especially for therapeutic sunscreens regulated as drugs here in Aus. Apologies if it is not worded correctly so do correct me.

        • +2

Hrm, listen to random person on the internet or the cancer council / foundation and various doctors as well as every single website that comes up when searching “how often should you reapply sunscreen” that also recommends reapplying every 2 hours scratches chin

      • its technically not correct.

2 hours is what they recommend as a safe measure, but it depends on a variety of factors, most importantly whether you sweat a lot or have gone swimming or "washed" your face.

It also depends on the strength of the UV rays for that day and also whether you are using physical or chemical sunscreen.

so TLDR, technically its not every 2 hours. Real answer is it "depends"

    • +2

      The directions say

Reapply every 2 hours or more often when sweating, and reapply after swimming or towelling.

The idea is to ensure that you have even and complete coverage. If it has shifted due to water, sweat or oil, or even you touching your face and rubbing it off, you should reapply.

For daily use I personally don't usually reapply unless I am outdoors for extended periods of time (indoor desk-bound job) . But if you have an active lifestyle it is recommended that you do reapply.

I've tried many Australian sunscreens and this has one of the least shiniest finishes on my oily/combination skin (sorry, I refuse to use the word 'glow' to describe sunscreen finishes like other people). A semi-matte finish (a true matte would be like applying powder on top). This doesn't make me look like I've just been working out even with the recommended amount of 5ml for face/neck/ears. Eventually your skin's natural oils break through after a few hours into the day but this still holds up pretty well. The mentioned Cancer Council and Natio ones look shinier on me compared to this and I don't consider those ones matte for oily skin at all, but skincare is subjective. The only downside is that this Hamilton one has a slightly tinted finish which is not suitable for very fair skin like mine. It gives me a slight sun-kissed look which some may prefer, but should not be noticeable on others.
The 200ml is definitely a recent addition as I hadn't seen it before. I don't believe this is stocked in other major stores except CW so to see it discounted like this is great.

Yeah it seems like those with oilier skin prefer the Hamilton and those with drier skin prefer Cancer Council/Natio. The kaolin clay in the Hamilton would help with oil control and give a more matte finish.

      • If only they made a non-tinted version!

@khdsl - have you tried the Aldi Ombra face sunscreen? Very similar formula.

          • @moocher: I picked up a tube and love it, thank you for the recommendation!! Never bothered to look at them previously. You are right about it being similar.. my untinted Hamilton prayers have been answered hehe! Works so well under powder for me, thank you again!!

            • +1

@kaebomb: So happy to hear that khdsl! The Ombra face sunscreen is such a hidden gem.

    • Have you tried Nivea face sunscreen?
For me this has been the least shiny one and takes the longest to start sliding into my eyes due to my very oily skin.
As a naturally tan person I really like the slight tint of Hamilton's, but I need sunscreen to stay put as long as possible in case I can't blot and reapply in time.

      • Yes I have, I use this Nivea Shine Control daily as the lightweight finish makes it suitable for powdering over and I love that it is not tinted. Wish it was water resistant but I do love this reformulation more. The previous version of Shine Control was only spf 50, not 50+ and the finish wasn't as elegant but it wasn't bad. Unfortunately, it is a little more shiny on me compared to this Hamilton one, hence the need for powder to mattify. It also runs down into my eyelids but I happily wear it daily. Skincare is so subjective!

  • Is this better than ego's sunsense Daily Face, sheer tint finish?

    • Oh God, anyone with fair skin should stay away from this one. It made me look soo orange!

      • Better than being white.

        • +1

A lot of non-tinted sunscreens have transparent finishes now so I don't experience a lot of white casts unless it's a very heavy zinc formula. Again, it's all subjective. Just wanted to let any fair skinned individuals know what it was like on me so that they potentially don't have to spend money on a full bottle that isn't compatible. If it suits you then that's great!

The Hamilton SPF 50+ Sensitive range is also on sale wonder if this is also good

    • It's awesome, doesn't sting the eyes and soaks right in with a white colour cream. Great for summer and the family. I use this more than hamilton everyday since the sensitive provides me 4 hours water resistant protection. I also stocked up on both since it's 1/2 price.
