Which Online Australian Marketplaces Do You Use The Most?

Hi everyone, I have a friend overseas who is conducting a study to see which Australian Marketplaces / Online retailers Aussies use the most.
This could be used to buy anything.

The main ones I'm thinking are like Ebay / Amazon.

Let me know if I've missed any!

consider: AliExpress (quite accessible to Australia), Temu

    • study to see which Australian Marketplaces

You’ll see I qualified that for AliExpress. Temu operates an Australian store front. Do we really care where our online orders are picked/packed?

        • +1

I don't know many people that sell on AliExpress or Temu…

I was going off this sliver of info. Do I have this upside down?

    Facebook marketplace?

  • Depends, what am I buying?

    • -1

      anything

      • +7

Anything is too generic. Amazon is for competition with majors. eBay is for bits n pieces, weird stuff, antiques not on FB and bonuses from majors, FB marketplace is for bargain hunting, Gumtree is for stuff people refuse to put on FB, Etsy is for overpriced and handmade arsty stuff, catch, kogan etc are all generally rip offs, temu is full of scams.

Everyday, i generally check all of them depending on what Im chasing. Specifics are important.

Amazon, but really eBay is more of a "marketplace" so I should have voted eBay.

    • +2

Agreed. I would wager that most of those who voted Amazon don't shop with the third-party sellers on there

    Hi,

A problem with adding in or nominating choices as you go along is that people vote for those that exist before others are added.

Also prominence in the Topic title is given to Australian Marketplaces while only later on Online retailers is included in.

You really need separate posts for Australian Marketplaces and Online Retailers or a post that gives equal weight or prominence to Online retailers in the topic title or by including in obvious retail candidates like Coles Online, Woolworths Online, Myer, Kmart, BigW, Target, Bunnings, JB Hi-Fi, Officeworks, TGG, HVN, SCA etc.

  • I use Amazon the most but it worries me, abusive monopolies and duopolies do no serve the Australian consumer once established

  • Where’s Kmart? If Kmart don’t sell it, I don’t want it.

    • Everything you own is Anko brand?

      • +1

        Everything

Oh, and there’s some LEGO in there too.

  • +1

Bunnings is a marketplace for some reason. Not that anyone buys from third-party sellers with them

  • corner of west st and cope st

no notes above $10 and in a brown paper bag
goods found in the bin down the road

Only Amazon has solid value for their subscription: superfast delivery, low-cost Prime subscription with the added benefit of Prime videos.
On the other hand, Kogan or Ebay doesn't offer anything that Prime does. If Prime is not an option, I would rather prefer buying from Ali Express for all non-urgent items.

Depends on 1. availability and 2. net price.

If same or similar (that is, from sameish Chinese factory), I use the cheapest marketplace. That is, the one with the biggest discounted/free gift card, for cheapest net price incl. shipping. E.g. Kogan had 40% discounted GCs with short expiry, would use this first.

  • Undoubtably Amazon first - but also fairly regularly use others.
Did you only want us to vote for No. 1?

    • Yeap just your number 1 - thank you!
