it lacks functions like app notifications

The Mi Band lacks a reliable implementation of this too

    • +1

I think the last Mi Band I used was the 4. I can't recall issues back then.

      • +1

I had the 5 and it was great.. i now have the 7 pro and it is a big step backwards, especially the app.

        • +1

Funny. I had the 5 and it was rubbish and now I have the 8 and it's pretty good compared to my Huawei band 6.

Anyways the bigger point is why would someone buy this band when the normal Mi Band is not that much more expensive

          • +3

@adrianhughes1998: Thanks for the tip ,, was in the cart & about to hit purchase..

          • @adrianhughes1998: its double the price mate

            • @Hugh G Rection: And? Not talking hundreds of dollars mate.

              • +1

@adrianhughes1998: little more isn't double the price mate. lol

not everyone is rich like you. kids in high school or uni would like something they can afford. $34 is better then $60+

                • +1

@Hugh G Rection: Who said I was rich.

And no i got mine for $55 AUD the week it came out, last I checked that wasn't double the price.

Lots of assumptions here I'm sensing about who is rich and what people can afford, so on and so forth.

                • @Hugh G Rection: If it were me, I'd drop the extra $10 and grab the miband 7. Superior in every way.

                • +1

@Hugh G Rection: Fair point, say you have 3 kids that all want one, you would surely go the cheaper version

But also fair that this should be compared to the previous model which is always discounted. I think I paid around this for my 6 when the 7 came out

                • @Hugh G Rection: Doubt it, kids are actually bullying their peers if they don't have an iPhone!

          • +2

@adrianhughes1998: Did you have to set your region to China when setting it up?

            • +1

@ldd-mn: I do have it set to China as I have existing Xiaomi account set to China too. No issues apart from the emojis on notifications not being displayed sometimes, I'd say English is 95% of the interface.

    • +1

If you're on iOS using Shortcuts to trigger Bluetooth on and off when exiting sleep mode in the morning "fixed" it for me.

  • Great Christmas stocking fillers

    • -4

      For small stockings…

  • Thanks got one for myself, heard that it changed the application which does not support the small programs like mi bnad 7 but all i need is the monitor function on mi band so it doesn't matter to me.

  • +10

These bands work great for contactless payments — the secret is to jam your credit card under the strap

    • +2

Did you buy this credit card add on from Xiaomi store which holds the card in

Look it up, it's called Duck-tape.

  • +1

    Need those app notifications
Any recommendations for a cheapie with a big screen.

Mum’s really struggling to read her WhatsApp messages off the tiny xiaomi band screen

    • Aldi sometimes sell cheap off-brand smart watches. I don't know how good they are, but Aldi's return policy is pretty good.

    • +1

They’re not super cheap but I got an Amazfit Bip smartwatch 5+ years ago for ~$80 and it’s still going strong.

      • +1

        thank you will check out

      • +1

        Got one! Cheers

    • The Smart Band 8 Active does have app notifications. Seems like a good deal.

  • Using Band 7 Pro myself and wife using Band 7. Bought them from Taobao China. Main nuisance is setting up: need to set the region in China. Hope the global version is not that difficult.
I prefer 7 Pro as there is GPS, better tracking data in hiking. Heart beat tracking during exercise is fast.

  • Bought the shoe clip on too - can't wait to wear this on my shoes.

    • Which clip? I thought that was for the other model.

  • Mi band 7 is the sweet spot, still uses Zepp Life :) same as 1,2,3,4,5 and 6 cant beat that.

    • However, Mi band 8 Chinese version doesn't support Zepp life anymore.

    • I have found Mi Fitness app to be better in terms of reliability. With Zepp life I used to face frequent disconnections even when battery optimizations were turned off but with Mi Fitness have never encountered such an issue.

Was tempted to get one but the charger not being USB-C killed it for me

    • +4

usb c isnt really the standard across devices in this price range, they usually have a dongle for magnetic strips to connect to

  • Hmmm already have the Mi Band 8…. To “upgrade” or not…

    • nah totally not worth it if you already have the 8.

  • Still rocking miband 4 =)

    • same, great battery life

  • Does anyone know if this Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Active work with any app that reads Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) Heart Rate Measurement?

  • +4

heartrate is not accurate when doing exercising or weight, wouldn't recommend unless you are just tracking steps and getting notifications from phone to the watch.

  • damn.. bought one yesterday for $60… doh.

    • Smart band or Mi band?

      • not sure of the difference? i bought the Global one.

        • This one has the square display and the other is more round.

          • @Clear: ahh so it is! i think i prefer the square..

oh yeah this one (Smart) only has TFT screen. Mi Band has OLED.

Mi band is brighter too and has more PPI.. explains the price difference.

            • +1

@Sage222: Yeah the Mi Band has more smart watch functions like app notifications and all that. This is more fitness.

  • When using this with an iPhone, does the stats sync with the Health app (via HealthKit)?

  • I have the Mi Band 5 and was planning to buy the OG strap it came with it which is about $15 to $20 inc shipping. Was tempted to just buy this, but saw that it doesn't use Zepp App? What app does it use then?

    • Mi Fitness

  • Xiaomi Smart Band 7 is on Amazon for $48.29 at the moment. There are almost no reviews for OPs Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Active.
Thoughts on which is a better buy?

  • So confused What is the difference between:
    - Xiaomi Smart Band 8 Active
    - Xiaomi Smart Band 8

One has a rounded top and bottom with lots of accessories available (clips, chains ect)
    Other is a rectangular screen.

As someone who doesn't want to wear it unless running and just clip it on or pocket for steps. i think i have to go with the more expensive rounded-screen one.

    • +2

Xiaomi Smart Band 8 is infact the Xiaomi Mi Band 8. Xiaomi has dropped the use of "Mi" in a lot of branding just to make it more confusing.

  • How do you know this band doesn't have app notifications?

    • Its not the Mi band. Xiaomi made no mention

  • Code doesn't work
