  I'm somewhat tech savvy but have NEVER used, researched or even considered a projector.

  What should I be trying to avoid and is this one actually any good? Or atleast an OK step into owning one?

  Also, what are people using this for? Can it genuinely replace a TV? Or is it more for like, kids/outdoor/camping?

    Will be dim and need absolute darkness, won't be native 1080, will probably have loud fans too.

    Don't waste your money, put it towards a better one. For a first step buy a used proper projector for 500 or 600 that was 1000+ when new, not this toy that cannot have a single decent part in it for the price (key parts being lens, lamp, image chip, processor, and mechanical moving part tolerances). All of that and the rest of it had to be manufactured for around 40 bucks, how good do you think it will be?
