[NSW] Arlec (Verve Design) Monitor Light Bar $15 (RRP $28.84) @ Bunnings, Castle Hill

350

Went in to grab those solar floodlights on sale https://www.bunnings.com.au/arlec-5w-integrated-solar-powere… (price matched Aldi special buys https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/special-buys-sat-30-…) but saw these monitor light bars on special, I was too weak to resist the temptation so I bought two.

Not sure if it's available in other stores but I tried to look it up on https://nrby.in/ and found nothing. Couldn't find any specs online but it looks almost identical to this one on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com.au/Thickness-USB-Powered-Sensitive-Pr…

Didn't go for the monitor bar but for the 5W Solar one. For $24.99 and the decent reviews on Bunnings site let me see how this works during the next camping..

  • Thanks OP for solar lights

That light bar looks much like the old BlitzWolf BW-SLT1 without the rear facing LEDs. Good light if these have the same LEDs, but that mount is a PITA if you have a curved back monitor like I do. Spring has too much tension and it just slides up.

    • It says on the box it includes a curved screen adaptor, but when I look inside I think it's just a piece of foam, will try it later.

      • +1

Ah, I don't mean a curved screen. My Dell has a chunky curved back and it just slides back up it. If I could get the mount open and pull out the spring it would probably be ok but didn't want to come apart easily when I tried before.

        • Yeah I agree, I just got one and its absurdly unstable with the Dell monitor (unfortunately my entire household has Dell monitors rip).

  • What is the RRP of the solar floodlight?

That 5w Arlec solar light is great. I've got 2 at the back decking since 2021 and they haven't skipped a beat at all. Till this day they still recognise movement and will turn on when sensored.
At night they remain a very low dimmed light until motion sensor is detected which I think is pretty cool.

    • Can't see anything online so any chance you can tell me how long the bright light last when triggered (before going back to dimmed?) my Amazon one turns off too quickly (30 seconds) and is not adjustable. Wondering if this would be a better option.

      • +1

From memory it lasts about 30 secs. Not adjustable. But if you're constantly moving within the sensor parameters they don't dim and come back on, they stay for as long as you're there.
Also, for the price and being solar, it's worth it imo.

        • Thanks for feedback…

    • I have two in the back yard for at least the last two years, cannot fault them. Also took them camping at one stage and they were good to find the campsite (the low light setting really does last 8hrs+). These are not the crappy NiMh AAA solar lights. I think it has two lithium 18650's in it.

Picked up another two, thanks OP (and Aldi)

  • I have 3 of those solar lights along footpath. They are awesome especially dimmed standby light.

Had plenty of monitor bar light at Cannon Hills (QLD) store yesterday.

  • I haven’t ever used one so what is the benefit of a monitor light bar?

    • Would like to know this as well.

    • Light up your desk without getting glare on your monitor.

Isn't that what a ceiling light is for? Or RGB keyboard?
Or a window, if during the daytime?
I just can't see the use case of this.
PLUS, it'll meddle with my camera setup, now that I think about it.

        • All of those sources of light would likely result in glare on your monitor, unless your desk is positioned perfectly with regards to the source of light.

        • Ceiling light lights up the whole room/area, RGB keyboards shine at you. Monitor bars put a pleasing pool just in front of your screen/keyboard. It's a nice progression from screen to your chest, filling your visual area, but the light is shielded from the monitor or from your eyes, directly, if it's half decent.

I bought the top shelf BenQ one with wireless controller which is…..significantly more expensive. But was worth it to me, given I face a picture window with a lot of "back glare". I needed something to brighten up the foreground to match and it's perfect (also auto temp balances during the day/evening to a nice warm yellow at night).

Just google a few monitor light bar setups to get a feel for how premo it can look, too.

  • Vermont South in Victoria has about 25 of these left. Aisle 56 down the end on the left.

  • Why would you want a light on the top of your monitor?

    • Would like to know this as well.

      • it helps with vision of the desk area. they don't affect the display itself. my room doesn't have great lighting so this is an easy way to improve lighting of the desk area.

Went to Bunnings to pick up the Arlec 5W solar sensor light. The sticker on the shelf has a date of 4/10/23 on it. I believe this is when the lower price ends.
