Trying to buy something from Taobao China. Do not want to use my credit card on the platform as the purchase is one off only.
Does anyone know if Taobao will accept a prepaid visa card (say from Officeworks) - and have tried something similar and it works?

If you are Chinese yourself you really should consider pay using Chinese payment method like AliPay (and use RMB not AUD), it otherwise automatically adds 10% extra GST on everything you buy.
and ship your item to courier like 4px or some other alternative, it's as fast and have better fright protection IMO.
You can try ask for a referral code from your friend (sending referral code is not allowed on OzB so I won't give you mine here — unless you have no friend using 4PX, then send me a PM?) which will basically will make your first shipment almost free.
If you aren't Chinese or don't have a close Chinese friend, then you can try what you were going to do—- Taobao is one of the largest company in China and it is very unlikely(almost impossible) you'll get scammed at all using your proper visa card.

ah, in that case you might want to just pay with plain visa card to reduce complexity. Taobao is like ebay but way much larger, you'll never get scammed by Taobao themselves and Credit card transaction is safe. You could potentially get scammed by sellers in rare circumstances but taobao should get you covered (as long as you don't confirm receipt of product), just like what you normally do on eBay/Amazon etc.
4px requires RMB payments too so if you are not Chinese nor having good Chinese friend, VISA + straight from Taobao probably is your best option unfortunately.

That being said, I have signed up for the Revolute virtual visa card - but there are some issues on Revolute side awaiting them to resolve. If that fails, I will use my own visa card.

It does but need to link it to Alipay or wechat.
Pretty much same as signing up to PayPal, need to send in ID which some people may not want to do.

You could download the Revoult app and make a virtual visa card for a one-time use card
