  • How big of an area is this designed for? Ie a bedroom only? A living room? The whole house?

Applicable room sizes are a ridiculous concept for air purifiers. The only thing that matters is the clean air delivery rate (CADR). You want to know how many air changes the purifier will deliver into a cubic/3D space, not 2d floor plan with no height.

If, say, you want the minimum recommended 6 clean air changes an hour into a room 50m² x 3m high, you'll need a CADR of 900m³/h. This has a max airflow rate of 402m3/h, so smoke CADR will be a bit lower (maybe 350m³/h?) - at that rate, it should take around 25mins to scrub all the air in that room. Higher ceilings, more air to scrub, etc…

I'm not suggesting this is a low performing unit (it's pretty quiet at top speed) just the concept of suitable room size should be ignored (and frankly clamped on by the ACCC).

I don't understand how you make it out that it can 'scrub' a whole room. It can only scrub within a few metres of it, however it can scrub the equivalent air in the room using your calculations however some clean air will be rescrubbed at an increasing rate as the area near the unit is scrubbed. In no way does this have the ability to scrub or suck air from the ceiling area if it's on the floor

But if the air on the floor is being scrubbed, would you be breathing ceiling air?

        • +2

That's why CADR isn't airflow - the calculation accounts for clean air that has already been scrubbed. It's based on how quicky it can scrub/trap dispersed particulate matter in a sealed room - that's particulate matter near the floor, the ceiling and everywhere in between. Also fluid dynamics…
