Recommendations for International Sim to Purchase before Going to Vietnam?

Hi everyone,

Itll be my first time going to Vietnam myself and I am looking to purchase a sim in Australia that I can use overseas. Ideally I'd like to be able to receive calls from family in the event of an Emergency and make calls myself if needed/stranded.

I will be going for 2 weeks.

I am currently with optus. My phone is a Samsung S21 Ultra

Can anyone recommend any sim cards for me? OR should I just get a sim card overseas to call back home? I am not sure which is the best option for me.

    I think most people get one at the airport on arrival. Easy at the airport.

    Find and Esim before https://esimdb.com/vietnam. Keep your Australian number as duel sim incase of emergency, then use Whatsapp/Messenger for regular contact with family.

    The easiest / lazy/practical thing to do is to get $5/day from Optus. For two weeks trip, its not too bad and achieve all the things you specified. Getting sim card on arrival, even though no doubt it is the cheapest, it involves having to get cash on arrival (ATM Withdrawal fee & Foreign Exchange Fee as applicable). Also the timing of your arrival into VN (is it a late night flight?) and are the shops still open. Not sure if your phone is dual sim as above suggested, if not, then you will have to then inform your relos of your VN number and also the challenge of not having access to your AU number, in case you need to make some banking transaction.

      I disagree, an e-sim is almost as easy, and a lot cheaper. My last few trips I have just purchased an E-sim prior to departure for sub $20, had it ready as soon as I get off the plane, and still been able to keep my local number as it makes the phone dual sim.

    Airalo is dirt cheap for data, use WhatsApp for calls

    You can buy one at airport on arrival, either before or after immigration. There are heaps of shops. Ask for an eSim. About VND 250,000 (AUD $16) unlimited data for one month. I just bought one last month.

      I bought one yesterday. Use viettel. Less than $15/$20. Easy and hassle free. I chose physical Sim instead of eSim. More than enough. Use WhatsApp for connecting with family
