Unethical eBay seller - ipodpad

Hi all, I am looking for a suggestion. My son’s iPhone 7 plus 256 GB had an audio issue and I sent the iPhone to an eBay seller “ipodpad”, who had listed a service to fix the issue for $80. He had 100% positive rating. I sent him the iphone and as per his request I provided him the passcode (but didn’t give him the Apple ID and password). After that he is not responding at all.

I have reported to eBay and they have refunded me the $80 I paid for the service. But they were unable to help in getting back my son’s iPhone.

I thought I should name and shame him, because he is still active on eBay and listing this service on eBay.

    He had 100% positive rating

Well it's now 91% after your scathing review.

The actual eBay listing to save you searching.

Went silent the same week Deon Hong was arrested. Hmmm.

deon feeling the heat now as the feds circle in

edit oh damn they got him!!! go team ozbargain!

      • +4

For anyone else out of the loop… Check out Deon's form here

And denied bail?? The guy that flipped a bus in NSW a few months ago and killed 10+ people wasn't even denied bail… Oh Deon, you much have gotten an Magistrate with an OzBargain account… :D

        • Yooo legit unreal how that saga unfolded!
I wonder who will play deon in the Netflix adaptation

I also wonder if there will be any news about it and how a rag tag bunch of misfits from ozbargain helped the police nab this criminal mastermind.

            @Jimothy Wongingtons:

I wonder who will play deon in the Netflix adaptation

Starring Jimothy Wongingtons as the infamous Deon Hong.

I suggested Scotty at some stage during the thread but you would be better. Younger, more handsome and catering is supplied by KFC and XXXX. Has your name written all over it.

          And denied bail??

Was probably considered a flight risk. If released, he'd be on the next plane out with a borrowed passport.

Spackbace has a stalking apprentice I see

The address looks like serviced offices and doesn't look like they could have a Unit# 900 in them.

If you are in Melbourne, maybe go to the address and see if they have a physical presence there?

    • Unfortunately I am in Sydney. The address should be correct, because the AU Post tracking showed it was delivered. And after he received the iPhone, he messaged me asking for passcode. So he has the phone with him.

      • +8

That address belongs to NatPost Business Centres - https://www.natpost.com/

They provide virtual offices to others - maybe give them a call and see if they can forward your call to World Tech Fix and get in touch with the person.
Maybe even complain that their location is being used to scam people and atleast cause them from using them to get mail.

  • Wow..November last year

    • Hahaha.. I have been chasing eBay and seller for almost 6 months. The seller went inactive for some time and now he is active again. That why I posted this.

Must be onboard for delivery with Aramex👍

your delivery is expected February 29 2024

saving a few dollars is going to end up costing you a lot more.
no way in hell would i have done that. i hate ebay, a lot of shady business on there. also a lot of people sell fakes, so i don't even bother with eBay anymore.
you should have found someone local, facebook marketplace, gumtree, local shop, etc…

if eBay already paid you, unfortunately the wipe there hands with it. you would have to file a police report that is unfortunately going to go nowhere.

consider it a loss and a huge learning lesson.

    or

jump on a cheap jetstar flight to melbourne and raise hell. most likely no one would be at that address though.

As MrHyde suggested above, If it is virtual office, it will be difficult to get hold of him. His ABN was registered to Unit 605 585 Doncaster Road, Doncaster VIC. Probably that is also virtual.

Yea filed police report already. No progress on that yet.

      • +1

yea, sorry mate. i had learned my lesson with things like this. its a loss. you would have to go to court, and after paying all the fees, you will waste so much money. it would be cheaper to just buy the iPhone 15 pro max 1tb
he would most likely go back to another country and do it all again.

      • +1

585 Doncaster Road looks fake - no apartments/buildings at that address that would look like they have a Unit 605.

    • +1

I've several thousand transactions on ebay not one problem 100% positive feedback.

The problem is how some people use ebay.

  • +2

You can probably buy it back now from his other listings

    https://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?item=275770423126&rt=nc&_…

    • Not a bad idea..

Buy and open a DNR case.

      • Probably my iPhone 7 Plus is already sold. 😜

        Only iPhone 5 is available

  • +1

why has no one suggested bikies

    • +1

I did before I scrolled down. I owe you 60 seconds of post time

Ring up and do a food order to that address. Tell them a bonus if the uber deliveroo dude gets a happy snap when the guy answers the door.

/ It's no surprise that this scam is so easy to setup. It's feral ebay after all. Scumtrees big bro.

    • As per a comment above, It seems that is a virtual office. So even if I go there, I won’t be able to find that guy.

  • +1

What did you provide to eBay to receive a refund?

    • +1

They can view the internal messages between the seller and buyer. They can see the seller was not responding to my message.
Or else the seller should be able to provide them a tracking number to prove that he shipped it back.

      • +1

Yet they still allow that seller to continue using their platform.

        Escalate to eBay's 'Integrity Unit'

        • +2

Integrity unit. Think that depts AGM global gathering could fit in a phone booth.

          • @Protractor: Wonder how they manage their reputation risk if this is how they 'protect' buyers ?

            • +2

@[Deactivated]: The flow inward is so huge they just don't care.
Their sales and profits keep flowing. I mean our govt depts must see what goes on and yet how many times has the ACCC launched any action against ebay? Just the whole drop shipping scam whereby sellers claim to be in Straya, use pre activated APost pkgs etc.
              It's so overt and yet…

  • +9

    World Tech Fix = WTF

    • 🤣🤣🤣🤣

      • Anyway to get a 2nd phone with tracking on it and provide details to "enforcer".

  • Google the guys name + linkedin
    Who knows…..?

  • +3

It’s an elaborate ploy by your kid to get a later iPhone. :)

In all seriousness it just sucks these people are out there. Best of luck.

    • Hahaha… by the way I didn’t neg you.

      • Someone probably thought I was being too flippant.

  • +4

You are lucky its an iphone 7 which is close to worthless. However falling for a scam like this is pretty ludicrous to me. Trust noone on ebay. Goto an actual service repair place that gives you a receipt.

    • The same seller has positive feedbacks from buyer, whose iPhone 7 Plus audio issue was fixed. I sent the phone because of those feedbacks :(

      • +4

Those feedbacks are easily faked, just cause you see several positive feedbacks doesn't mean anything, the account could even have been hijacked also.

  • +1

If you have only gave him the password but not the iCloud password can you not lock the phone via iCloud?

    • +2

I have locked it and not sure if he can hack/unlock it. But it still won’t help me to get my phone back.

  • Trusting an ebay seller with only 1353 feedback responses for more than $20……
