Recommendations for Blood Pressure Monitor

Since this is something I presume quite a lot of people have bought, does the community have any recommendations for good quality Blood Pressure Monitors? I have no idea why some are 2x or 3x the price of others.

I can't believe it's come to this, but I'm old enough to need to worry about my blood pressure - cardiologist said I'm otherwise fine but I should monitor it, it will only get higher as I age.

My recommendation is to buy the same brand your GP use

    • Agreed. A second opinion is dangerous

  • Got this one a few months back, seems OK.

2 of the nearby clinics' gps use the aldi ones… I guess they are okay may be?

    Omron

    • I have an Omron wrist one. Now, i wont get into the blah blah about wrist vs arm cuff but if you're merely wanting to keep an eye on it and have good access to GP and hospital, then it's a great little device.

  • I have either the Omron or the Aldi one. The Aldi $30 one is just fine.

  • I got this one for the parentals last year - I recall it was ~$100.

      40% inflation in a year… blood pressure rising…

I think it was on special at the time.

Now, the parentals incorporate their last BP measurement into all their conversations with their aging counterparts …. ugh!

  • I use the aldi one, I checked it with our hospital manual ones and auto and it did well.

  • Do you have PHI? If you have a letter from your doctor saying that you need one you can possibly put in a claim and get a substantial amount back.

    • possibly

Does anyone of them let you?

      • Depends on your insurer and level of cover. I think my parents were able to get most of the cost of theirs back. RRP was $200+ I believe, but then got it on sale then were able to put in a claim by sending in the letter and the receipt. Just make sure you have the letter of recommendation dated before your purchase. They didn't and it caused a few headaches.

I purchased an Omron and it's pretty good. Not the cheapest but seems really well made.

  • Omron base model

Omron HEM-7320 and I claimed the cost back from my health fund (Navy Health)

    • Bloody good

    • I got the Omron HEM-7600T and claimed it back on Navy Helath. If I can basically claim it all back I might as well get the most expensive one.

  • I got the Aldi one. I stop using it though, it never has anything good to say about my health.

  • I've used a few. It is easier to get a proper reading with an upper-arm cuff. The wrist ones require more skill.
Pressure varies over the day, even between reading close together, so there is no point trying to be super-accurate. Take a few readings over the day and average them.

  • The Aldi ones look to me like this brand

  • Just get something like this that tells you if you are doing it wrong. https://www.omronhealthcare-ap.com/au/product/128-hem-7121
