TV Antenna - I Want to Put The TV in Another Room. Electrician or TV Guy?

I want to put a TV in the lounge room. There is no TV point there.

There is an antenna on the roof, I just need this room to be given access to it.

I also will want a power point installed, and the TV mounted on the wall.

Who do I call for this? An antenna company, an electrician or both?

Also if you have any recommendations, please say. (I am in Melbourne, North Caulfield).

Buy this for $67 and then watch free-to-air TV using your wifi. No need for aerial connection anymore.

  • Answer to OP's question. either. Ring a few and get a quotation.

Sparky will glady do both. The skill set needed for the antenna is running cables through walls and fitting the correct wall socket/plate. You can get a wall box that includes a double GPO, TV antenna & Cat6 ethernet.

    • They can't install the power point though…

  • Call an antenna company and see if they can install a power point as well, and you'll have a definitive answer.

    • The can only do that if they are also electricians…

      • That will be the definitive answer they get. Unless the antenna company has an electrician on staff to deal with customers who want a power point and an antenna socket they'll be told organise the electrician first for the power point, then we'll come and do the antenna.

Could you mount the TV on the wall yourself?

Why not small portable unit given it's urban area? I remember using that long time ago and the quality was alright.
    something like https://www.bunnings.com.au/antsig-14-x-26cm-black-indoor-di…

  • Electrician can do both. TV guy wouldn't be a TV guy if they were a qualified Electrician

  • Thanks for all comments. They helped me decide.
I went with mrantenna. He installed 3 antennas and 3 data points for me. Around $830

I left the electrical work, as I will need an electrician later for other work.

    • Out of curiosity, did he tell you what sort of signal you had after adding the 3 antenna points? That's a fair bit of loss to put on an antenna unless there's an amplifier in the mix somewhere.
