Can I Use Ultimate Gift Cards to Buy Apple Gift Cards through JB Hi-Fi?

Hi all, new to OzBargain and first time purchasing these kind of gift cards.
I'm planning to take advantage of the 20x EDR points for Ultimate Gift Cards at Woolies tomorrow to buy the iPhone 15.

How should I go about this? Do I just buy from Woolies > Exchange for JB GCs online (if necessary) > Go to JB > Purchase Apple GCs using GCs?

Also a bit worried about how they'll react if I'm bringing 5 gift cards (not sure if you can merge into 1 online) to buy Apple Gift Cards.
Are they usually cool about this or am I just overthinking it?

Can't you just buy the phone from JB with the vouchers?

    • Yeah I've considered this but read somewhere that JB normally takes a few weeks for the new iPhones to come in, so I would rather just pre-order it whenever it's available. So this would be my last option.

      • Might depend on where you go and which model you're after but I am pretty sure I picked one up from JB on the day of release last year.

        • No worries then, guess I'll just have to wait and see :)

  • So, your plan is to buy gift cards from Woolworths, then use those gift cards to buy JB Hifi gift cards online, then take those cards to JB and use the cards to buy Apple gift cards, then use those gift cards to buy a phone?

Have you confirmed with all of those card companies and retailers that you can actually do what you're trying to do?

    • According to the FAQ:

JB Hi-Fi and The Good Guys officially do not permit customers to use Ultimate gift cards as a payment method for JB Hi-Fi gift cards

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/gift_card_deals_retailer_f…

      • Yes, that's my plan except for the part where I buy gift cards online. I just assumed that I would have to register the Ultimate Gift Cards on their website and exchange it for an eGift Card, unless that part isn't necessary.

As for the FAQ, I did some reading around and people say the checkout system allows it, but it depends on the staff.

  • Having some experience doing this, easiest, fastest way is to price match the iPhone at JB, then swipe all your cards at JB. If you go Apple route, their limit is 8 GC per transaction, and I haven't seen >$100 Apple GC in my local store so you'd only be able to buy an iPhone worth $800, not the IP15.

Buying through JB would be the easiest route the only problem which I mentioned in another reply is that JB doesn't get the phones as soon as it releases. I guess I'll have to look in store to see if they do variable Apple GCs if I wanna go the Apple route.

      • Yeah good luck on finding variable Apple GC. All I'll say is time is money. Either you save some money or time, your choice :)

Yeah it'll all work out really well, go for it.

  • keep us updated as I am looking to do the same but for the new Airpods pro 2s

    • Went in to JB today and they only have max $200 Apple GCs, also said there was a limit but they weren't sure how many.

Told them my plan essentially and they said you can't buy gift cards with gift cards, but I'm assuming you can just say you're paying by card instead of saying you're paying with a gift card since it's a Visa card.

If you're just buying AirPods, then you should be good with the $200 GCs, just say you're paying by card.

You can use Apple Pay too (https://www.ultimategiftcards.com.au/apple-pay/) if you're using the Ultimate GCs.

  • The key is to just not ask them.

I bought a bunch of Apple gift cards just today with a JB HiFi gift card (egift card - with a barcode they have to scan) with no problems.

Even easier if you're just swiping a physical card - it'll go through as EFTPOS.

    • Good to know mate, I came here wondering the same thing as I'm intending on buying some Ultimate cards to swap for Apple cards at my local JB today. I think I will go with adding the Ultimate GC to Apple Pay so that it appears much more like a 'regular' transaction.

      • Can you add more than 1 gift card in Apple Pay? I have like 6-7 of them so wondering if anyone has done this before?

I couldn’t get it to work so I just used the physical ones. They didn’t care how I paid for the Apple GCs.

          • @j1nx: Thanks for the quick response! Did you end up paying for apple gift cards using ultimate gift cards or did you first get the jb hi fi ones? can you detail out what you did step by step if its not too much trouble please?

            • @Spidy2021: I bought ultimate gift cards from Woolies, went into JB with the physical gift cards and purchased Apple gift cards with them.

  • Where did you guys get Apple GC? I went to several JB stores and they are alll out of stock

  • Looks like JB changed their terms so you can't do this anymore as of Nov 2023 - has anyone tried to do so after the change?

    • Yes, JB Hi-Fi has changed their policy as of November 2023. According to the updated Gift Card Terms & Conditions (https://support.jbhifi.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/360052939334…):

"14. Gift Cards and Third Party JB Hi-Fi Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase another JB Hi-Fi branded Gift Card or another third party gift card e.g. Steam Gift Cards, Xbox Gift Cards, Google Play Cards."

This means you can no longer use JB Hi-Fi Gift Cards to purchase other third-party gift cards like Apple Gift Cards.

  • Just tried today and they don’t allow anymore. It sucks . It was great till it lasted
