Travel Insurance for Elderly

Hi all

Just wondering who I should go with for travel insurance for my elderly mother who is 81, traveling to Canada for 2 weeks. I understand not everything will be covered but I’m after the best option. I usually use southern cross, not sure how they are for older people. Thanks!

    My Mother-in-Law is 82, I selected SCTI International Medical Only $274 for a month in Europe. But can't be used if your mother is cruising.

    I had the same issues helping an elderly family member on their trip last year. Very few places would offer cover for someone who was 83 years old. The only viable option was Qantas insurance underwritten by NIB Travel Services. The policy was about $1.9k for 2 months.

    So glad they got it because they did have to make a claim. Was paid out after some delay, but without too much fuss. Good luck :)

    There are so many exclusions on the policy, that you have to wonder what is the point.

    It is like a car insurance policy that only applies on Tuesdays. If you can afford to drive and take the risk of the other days, you can afford Tuesdays without the policy.

    Southern Cross Travel cater for older people, provide covid cover and also will do multi travel events within a calandar year of purchase which will save me a considerable amount of money. I will book a week prior to embarking on my travel departure to maximise the travel time available.

      I just tried to process her health conditions and it wouldn't let me cover anything with Southern Cross. Is that going to be the same everywhere?

    Southern Cross advertise that they offer cover from 18 to 118 - that should cover your mother!!
    I compared it with RACV and Covermore both of whom I have used in the past.

    Their price for 2 weeks in Japan and flights worked out a lot dearer than 12 months cover as I plan several trips in that time.
    Let me know if you think I overlooked a loop hole. My friend uses it and says they are very good.
