  • Is samsung the only ones doing 4k OLEDs?

    • 27”? LG make most of the displays. Asus, Corsair and LG all have 27” OLED

Buying directly from Shopping Express is $20 cheaper and free shipping (at least to my area - not sure if free shipping nationwide). Sale ends in 1 day - https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/dell-ultrasharp-27-4k…

Ratings.com give this monitor an overall 7.4 for Mixed Usage and 8.4 for Office usage. No HDMI 2.1, no VRR, and HDR is not quite as bright as it could be, but exceptional price for a 27”

The Dell Ultrasharp 27” 4K monitor as long as you aren’t planning on gaming with it, having owned three Dell Ultrasharps since 2008, I can say they were all exceptional monitors for the general day to day work I used them for and I rarely find a bad Ultrasharp model. I know that LG Display were going to be supplying the display for some of the upcoming high end Ultrasharp Monitors. So I did some research.

I according to an Ars Technica article both the Q3223QE has an LG IPS Panel in it as does the Q2723QE.

    That article is from 31/3/2022

Dell’s new UltraSharp 4K monitors are “IPS Black”—what does that mean?

I have this, it is a great officework display, and 3D modelling. I got my daughter to get it at edu pricing from dell at $713 on sale. If someone has an edu account might be worth looking at direct to see what is on offer. I reckon you would need 5K to do better, particularly if you have a Mac.

The best bit is the single cable usb power (100w) and data, with a generous dock in the in the back, and KVM for the second machine.

it isn’t suitable as a gaming monitor IMHO.

What the hell happened to office monitor pricing

    • This is a pretty high end model that came out this year, with 90W USB-C PD and a built in ethernet adapter. Seems to do daisy chaining too so you should be able to go dual screen off a single USB-C.
Great for a minimalist office setup

I bought a 27" Dell 4K IPS monitor with USB-C PD and USB hub (no ethernet) for $360-odd last year, on the recommendation of this community. The blacks were medium-grey, especially after dusk, it had a mild green tint, the backlight bleed was worse than my bargain-basement 24" Acer, and colours while good suffered due to the overall poor contrast. Even at that step discount, it was a let down.

All else being equal, the addition of ethernet doesn't justify the price difference for me.

And putting allllll of that aside, the price of USB-C / 4K monitors seems high given the very mature tech. Heck, look what you can get packed into a TV for 1k these days.

        YMMV.

        • Looks like you got an S series (S2721QS) which is the cheaper version (doesn't even have USB) and was two years old.

This is current, has USB-C PD, KVM, DP-in, multiple USB ports.ethernet, and a higher quality panel……… TVs are irrelevant to monitor discussion.

          • @dav3: Looks like you didn't read the first line of my comment.

Why do you say TVs are irrelevant? It's largely similar tech, and tech that proves manufacturing costs of many monitor/display features is lower than monitor pricing trends suggest.

            • @chrisandrew: Which is it? An S2721QS, S2721QC (this has power delivery), P2723QE (ugh!) or an ultrasharp (U2723QE)? Quite a difference in screen quality. S series and P series have smaller docks too. At that price suspect it is S series.

              • @entropysbane: Just checked the receipt - S2722QC. You saying the screen is heaps better on the U-series?

                • @chrisandrew: I got the S2722QCfire about $360 too. Good 4K office monitor. Not sure what justifies the higher pricing these days at all…

                • @chrisandrew: Yes, each display is factory tested and colour calibrated for design/photography/cad work.

I would add the software it comes with for further customising and dock settings (eg KVM) also works with macs.

Your monitor is a good monitor, but it is in a quite different market segment.

    • Do you need 4K in the office…

Not really a deal. Been this price for at least a few weeks at Centrecom as I priced one for work recently.
    https://www.centrecom.com.au/dell-ultrasharp-27-4k-ips-90w-p…
and is already cheaper at Scorptec, Mwave and a few others as well.
