Depending on your needs the Unifi Lite 16 POE could be better value.
    https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/ubiquiti-unifi-lite-1…
On the whole I wouldn't be surprised if Unifi supports multi-gig in their next iteration of mid-range switches so fingers crossed,

    • Yeah something along those lines would have been less pain on the wallet, but unfortunately I was specifically after something rack mount with a reasonable POE budget. I was worried about the USW-16-POE's measly 42W budget, and the USW-Lite-16-POE is in a similar boat with 45W PoE budget. Of course I could have gone non-Unifi 😉

      • Never go non unifi!
I've got 5 devices on POe and they're only using 15/45W of the 16 lite.
Even the UAP-AC NANO HD generally uses 6-7 watts, and the IP cameras like 2-3 watts.

I mount mine on a wall, but rack mount would be nice.

        • Yeah I’m all in on Unifi lol. 2 g4 bullets (with IR accessories), 2x WAPs all on a US-8-60W, well under the budget so yes 16 port at 42W may have been ok but I didn’t want to risk a future upgrade 🤣

Soon to be 5 cams, 3 WAPs hence the need for a new switch. Stupidly I could have saved the drama by getting the UDMP-SE not the UDMP last year 🤦‍♀️

@nickw444: The cameras are a bit too pricey even for me. I use generic ONVIF/RTSP cameras with their own isolated subnet all connected to frigate and integrated to home assistant

      • POE budget aside, just FYI you can buy rack mount fittings for the smaller Unifi switches such as the 16 Lite.

You can 3d print some for free too

      • I was in the exact some boat. I calculated that I should be ok with the USW-Lite or the USW-16-POE but I was concerned about future proofing.
A couple weeks ago I purchased the USW-24-POE through shopping express EBay with the 17% EBay Plus code for $634

      • measly is an understatement…

$348 at PLE Computers (searched on Static ICE, so don't have any prior experience with PLE)

I got mine for $250 second hand off eBay and it's been great, 3d printed a wall mount for it too.

PLE has been reliable and easy to work with in the past. I've never had to do an RMA though with them but they are generally responsive

  • For anyone needed PoE, I have good experience with a brand called Planet.
Their website www.planet.com.tw is very informative.
    I'm not affiliated.

you can get the TP Link TL-SG2428P from PCCG for $475.

TP Link APs are half the price of ubi.

their in wall poe AP + switch combo are less than half price of the unifi in walls.

the interface is basically the same though slightly less mature of a product.

    • We use TP-Link products at my job and they're improving so quickly. Between the Tapo and Omada ranges, TP-Link are catching up to Ubiquiti.

  • Assuming it's a gen 1?

    • Pretty sure this is gen2 (USW model number as opposed to US In gen1). Happy to be proven wrong and in that case I’m cancelling my order 🤣

      • All Ubiquiti switches with a touchscreen are Gen 2.

    • This USW-24-POE switch is Gen 2.

  • This is a good poe switch but its power budget is 95w and way too low imo giving the number of poe ports it has. I am looking at 24 poe pro which has 250w budget but obviously more expensive. I'm waiting for a good deal on that.

Im on the fence. While I agree, I have this switch running 7 cameras and 3 APs and it’s only at 36W. Even if I used all 16POE ports on this I wouldn’t get that close to the 95W max.

      • Sort of married to unifi …

  • Beware that a few enterprise brands have released bulletins implying that Ubiquiti switches don’t properly support concurrent PoE+ on more than one port leading to failures. Not sure who is mixing enterprise equipment with this stuff though.

Note that this specifically applies to PoE+ and not dumb PoE.

  • Be careful with all the Gen 2 non-Pro POE switches, massively reduced POE budgets

As we found out not long ago with our 16 Port ones…

    gen1 16 Port POE - 150W
    gen2 16 Port POE - 42W

    Ubiquiti taking the piss….
