ASUS Eee 10.1'' Netbook, Atom N2600 Dual Core 1.6GHz, 1GB, 320GB HDD, Win7 Starter $260 Del @ OO

30

Nice cheap lappy for the youngsters to use (destroy). The model is apparently the X101CH, you can view the specs on the Asus website here - http://www.asus.com.au/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_X101CH/#specificati…

Doesn't say anywhere I can find that it's a refurb, so hopefully it's brand spanking new.

It would be good if OO.com.au can actually list out the exact model name. There are about 20+ different 10.1" Eee PC on Asus' website, and more than one use N2600 CPU — all with slightly different style, colour, weight, expansion ports, etc.

    • It's bizarre isn't it. I had a good long look for the model and couldn't spot it which is why I used the staticice link as I can only assume it's one of the cheapest at the top of the list with similar/same specs.

Even their product code ELEEEP101SBLK doesn't give anything away, not that I can decipher anyway.

      • ditto, hesitant to buy with out knowing the model number.

      • Actually some of those listed on StaticICE uses N570, whereas N2600 uses newer integrated GPU and a lot less power (fanless I think). Not necessarily faster though.

Just that judging from netbook tag on OzBargain, it's no longer as popular as they were a few years ago. Too under powered.

        • Adding 2600 to the filter, the range is reduced - http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=ASUS+Eee+10…

Guessing it's the R011CX-BLK004S (black) as the only other with the N2600 is the same but white.

All those prices are over $300 so this for $260 isn't too shabby so long as you've got a use for something like this.

    • I don't think there were many fanless ASUS N2600 netbooks on the market here. My money's on it being either the X101CH or 1011CX. The former was the one sold in JB Hifi - recall being tempted to buy it a couple of times for a touch under $300 during their laptop sales.

I'm trying to come up with a reason I need one, hopefully they sell out before I do.

        • The thing that turned me off most was the RAM being stuck at 1GB (no slot - soldered to the board). Was nevertheless very tempted by the fanlessness.

        • The thing that turned me off most was the RAM being stuck at 1GB (no slot - soldered to the board).

Oh. Seriously? That kills it for me outright.

          Same. :(

        • If it is the R011CX which it certainly seems to be, I'm finding info that says it can be upgraded to 2GB (max):

          https://www.google.com.au/search?hl=en&q=upgrade+memory+R011…

The specs on the Asus website also say 2GB max so it must be upgradeable somehow, either an additional slot for a 2nd stick or a single removable stick you replace.

How come you NEVER +ve a real deal Scotty ? lol

      • +1

I +1 lots of different deals what are you talking about? :) Can't you see that it's really the cheapest one around?

        • I wasn't expecting much reaction to this deal, kinda knew eee pc's weren't exactly popular, but it was the best price at the time by a fair percentage and definitely a real deal despite the opinions of some … or one.

          … I think I just saw a ghost ?!

  • 3 cell battery is also a deal breaker. Would have to replace it with a 6 to get any benefits of a netbook out of it.

    • 11hrs (TBD)(6cells, 48W/h) battery life
      5hrs (TBD)(3cells, 23W/h) battery life

5hrs isn't terrible. TBD is interesting though, haven't they actually tested it against their own claims ?!

    Spoke with OO.

It's an asus x101ch-blk031s, and not a refurb.

It is an old model though, used to sell $350-$400.

Not sure what the difference is between the asus blk031s and the blk061s?

    Pete.

    • Thanks for the info / update, good to finally know for sure what it is.

So, now that we know, here's a price comparison - http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=x101ch&spos…

and here's the Asus site specs - http://www.asus.com.au/Eee/Eee_PC/Eee_PC_X101CH/#specificati…

It does appear it's probably stuck with whatever memory it ships with. I've got an old eee 700 that I was able to take the 512MB out of and replace with 2GB, strange that in some respects they go backward.

      • Prolly trying to reduce manuf. costs, but its not like a ram slot cost much more vs module soldered onboard (its negligible)…meh what are ya gonna do…

I'm hoping someone makes a custom Windows 8 RT rom in future that can be flashed onto any existing ARM powered android tablets (majority) for dual boot.

      • soldered on memory - usually reduce space as well. like MacBook Air, ThinkPad X1 Carbon…
