Is Latitude 28° Global Platinum Mastercard a Good Credit Card?

I was looking for a credit card with $0 annual fee and $0 international transaction fee and found this card.

I have Amex and Coles Card but they will charge 3% and 2.7% fee overseas respectively.

I wanted to ask if somebody had any experience of this Latitude card on using overseas. Also, how's the customer service if any issue occurs?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: I would like to thank everyone for providing the detailed information. This has helped me in understanding the card in a better way before applying.

I have it, it works as on the packet. You do get ATM feed but those are charged by the ATM provider not the card company. Never used customer service though

Bankwest Zero premium is the other one to look at. Lower interest rate and offers a digital card. Otherwise much the same

    • Thanks! I didn't know about Bankwest Zero, I will definitely look at that too.

I personally would take the Bendigo Ready card over Bankwest Zero Platinum. When I went through the PDS' for the complimentary international travel insurance, and free extended warranty, Bendigo was better for all the things that mattered to me.

They don't have the free international roaming that 28 Degrees come with but it's only 3Gb that lasts 15 days from when you start using it per annum I believe. IMHO, a $10 AYG Amaysim plan along with $50 for 5Gb data that lasts 365 days is a superior roaming option (15 days usually doesn't cover my international trips).

Bendigo also has non-SMS MFA if that's important to you.

Having just come back from an overseas trip with the bankwest card and the sms 2fa, definitely choose the option without

    • 28 degree also has a digital card.

28 Degrees charge interest as a cash advance if you withdraw via ATM… they stopped allowing the over-paying before a trip then drawing it back as if it were a debit card.

      • How does it compare to CBA's Travel Card for international travel?

        • I know nothing about CBA's Travel Card

Got skimmed 3 times in a week on Amazon AU with 28 Deg card, had no problems refunding the money.
Free flight delay lounge access after 2 hrs and you dont need to have the ticket paid though 28 just register the flight online and you're good.
Free international Wi-Fi Haven't used that one yet.
Use mine to buy off Aliexpress never charge an international fee.

    • Does this card has easy instalment options like other Latitude cards?

    • Free international Wi-Fi has been replaced with free international 4G data roaming. It's an e-sim. A bit convoluted to set up but it works well once it has been. Used it on a European trip.

      • I used this a couple of months ago. They sent me a physical sim. It was great as it gave me a week or so in Europe with data before I got myself a European sim.

        • Does anyone have the pricing for this?

The first 3Gb is free, then they have starter packs for new users as well as affordable data plans (Global, Local, Regional Data Plans) which you can purchase together with your starter pack via the Flexiroam X app or website. You can also share data with your friends and family by using the FlexiShare feature in the App.

Seems we can't get prices without installing the app & providing the card details. I prefer to know what the prices are first.

"Redemption of the Starter Pack and Promotional Data Plan will not cost you anything. If you redeem a SIM card, both SIM card cost and shipping cost are waived. The eSIM will be delivered to your email address. The Promotional Data Plan will be allocated to your Flexiroam account. It will not cost you anything to use the benefit provided.

If you choose to purchase additional data plans, they will be subject to their respective prices. However, you will enjoy 15% discount off all data plans if you pay with your eligible Mastercard.

You are most welcome! Just let us know if you need further assistance and we will be happy to assist you."

3 attempts to get prices… no go.

          • @pgcs: From memory their paid plans are not cheap, but they often have 70% off deals. Even then they are not particularly cheap. But, the 3Gb was very helpful for me as I was able to use it as soon as I got off the plane and it gave me a week or so to sort out a local sim provider.

            • @footscrayvic: I’m sure I got 15 days when I used it in Europe.

I'm still grandfathered in on the 12 month price protection. This card was GOAT back in the day, now its just ok.

    • How come? What changed?

      • +3

Prior to 2014 you could add funds to the card and withdraw from bank ATMs fee-free. But since the pandemic cash is less desirable, unless you're in Japan or need to use a public toilet in parts of Western Europe.

        • IMO still need cash as a tourist everywhere as a back up so you have the option to avoid occasional extortionate card fees.
Though much less these days. Always there will be a little food stall or something needing cash and you get reamed at the "network" high fee ATMs if you don't have a no/low fee ATM card.
I used to do the "load up" on this card, then the Citibank ATM card. Not sure who is the best now.

          • +2

@mskeggs: Same card strategy here, migrated from 28 Degrees to Citibank Plus. Last international trip for me was pre-pandemic. I didn't need cash in the Nordics: Iceland, Norway, Sweden & Denmark. Had to get cash for the laundromat in Croatia but otherwise didn't spend any there either. I used public transit all over the world and it was all cash-free. People have been coming back recently from the UK having not needed cash. ATM fees will always be a pain in the USA due to tipping.

They stopped offering the price protection.

Be careful, I got skimmed 7 times on Apple.Com (NSW) with this card (I am guessing stemming from their recent data leak).

Seems like the easiest card to be skimmed compared to others so be sure to check regularly into your account.

    • ditto once or twice a year!

Been using the 28deg since 2018, never had any fraud. YMMV

      • Hopefully stay that way. Mine was completely out of the blue. The card was rarely used unless overseas trip but the scams were all Apple NSW for bips and bops Apps.

        • I think card skimming is more an overseas thing, maybe that's why. I mostlyy shopping online, PayPal when possible. 🤞🏻

  • Works perfect for single users if you don't mind their data leaks.
    Secondary user activation is clumsy.
They might also go under so have redundancy.

  • Had this card since 2016, same time as Coles MC. Oddly enough the Coles MC supp card which I used literally a handful of times got skimmed but never with 28d and I use it heaps.

Been to KL, Thailand, few Europe countries, south Africa using 28d and never had any issues. Contacted support to block card when lost easy enough. One time they charged me an interest or statement fee because I forgot to pay that month and they refunded me because I'm a 'good customer' lol. So pretty good experience overall.

The Boingo wifi sucked in Europe so don't rely on it.

    • They don't provide Boingo WiFi any more, now is a free 3GB travel SIM from Flexiroam.

  • I’ve had this card since 2008 & have used it while overseas & for buying stuff from overseas (without any foreign exchange fees). The card was skimmed a couple of times while in the US, but their customer service sorted it out quickly.

I also recently had a disputed transaction on a legitimate purchase (item was never delivered) - their dispute system is very easy to use & got my money back within a day.

  • I only use my 28deg credit card overseas. great car with no hidden surprises when using the card overseas. I pay my balance as soon as I finish my overseas trip every time. always starting the next trip with a zero balance

  • Its used to be great. Now so-so at doing a small number of things but hardly unique. Just don't get one if you cannot pay off your full balance each month as they're very high interest rate chargers (28% or so at present IIRC).

    • 28% 🥹

    • 26.99% purchase
      29.99% cash advance

      big numbers
      small share price

  • The boingo wifi isn't available anymore but still listed on 3 pages of their website including the main page for the card which you apply througb.. Very misleading. No way am I installing an app and messing around with a new sim for 3gb of free data. Will just by a sim when I land that will likely have alot more data and last alot longer.
