  • Who designs soccer balls? Is it FIFA? That would be one cool job to make colourful designs on a soccer ball for an official soccer tournament.

    • +3

The supplier designs them. In this case, Adidas.

  • The official ball has sensors like gps but i dont see that this has them so not really a match ball it just looks like it.

      • I don't understand the downvotes.

He apparently isn't lieing. Article confirms the ball has an IMU with conduction charging.

"the ball which will be used on pitch during the Women´s World Cup, will also be fitted with Connected Ball Technology" the ball for sale doesn't have it so technically not the match ball just called that. The article talks about the actual balls uses in a match and the "match ball" for sale so its confusing but they are NOT the same balls.

        • +1

Without having any way to tell if it actually is the same ball, but is it not possible that the ball is the same, just for match play they fit it with the internal inertial sensor?

In the same way you can get the "tour de france bike" but it doesnt come with all of the same power sensors etc, but it's still the same bike?

Replica Adidas balls around $30 on eBay. The listed ball would not be the original used at the match and would be a replica too

how do you know? i don't think so.

    • +2

It's not implying out was used in a match. They make different levels of replica balls. "Official match ball" is the best quality one and usually the same type that's used in the matches.

      • -1

        it's $240.. so it is.

        • These are brand new made in China balls, never used, never saw a FIFA stadium.

          • -1

@Logical: Lovingly handcrafted by someone who probably has no idea what Soccer is

        • Match used balls for world cups go for a lot more than $240.

    • +3

How could one ever come to the logical conclusion that Jim Kidds Sports is selling the match game ball?

Do you not think the actual ball used would be worth a whole lot more than this? Do you actually think fifa would give the match ball to a small Australian retailer to sell to the public for below a recommended retail price?

Like I don’t get where this thought process even comes from..

      • -1

They don't give them the balls lol. Jim Kidd submits through a tender process, to purchase remaining stock from whoever the supplier is. They do this with all of their apparel. Do you think the supplier is going to want this "dead stock" taking up their inventory space and costing them money to sit there?

Might help to put in title/description, WA only.. 😅

A lot of talk here about official match ball vs being a replica, and realistically, both sides are right.
Adidas make the ball with 3 different designations: Pro, Competition, and League (expensive, middle, cheapest).
The Pro is the exact same ball as the one used in matches, if "smart ball" technology wasn't being used. Adidas make around 3,500 balls with this tech for use at the World Cup. Those include printing for the teams involved in the match, dates, etc. Those balls usually end up in the hands of FIFA. You would be extremely fortunate to get your hands on one of those.
The closest you'll get is buying the "retail" Pro version of the ball. Picking one of these up for $99 is a bargain, as Pro version balls tend to increase in value over time.

    • yep, apparently the 'match' ones are expensive!

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/335013220176

      • Doesn't look like it's garnering much interest looking at the bids

^ This is it. It's the same ball but without the sensors. No point getting a ball with sensors that do nothing and can't be seen unless you tear the thing apart. These match grade balls also tend to go up in value. As someone who collected a few FIFA approved/Match grade balls previously, I was shocked to see how much the 2006 teamgeists go for today. $99 is a very good deal for a nice memento.

      • I already regret not picking up the Al Rihla and the Al Hilm (which you can guarantee is going to go through the roof as the "Messi ball").

I just cleaned them out. No more left sorry 😁
