Ubiquiti Unifi G3 Flex Full HD IP Camera $123 (Was $149) + Delivery ($0 MEL/WA C&C) @ PLE Computers

70

Disclaimer* - Ubiquiti cameras can only work with Ubiquiti gear. These cameras wont hook up to your non Unifi Protect (ubiquiti) NVR.

After I noticed the prices fluctuate from time to time on PLEs website I started watching them on the ubiquiti gear I want to get.
The past few months have seen this camera go from $139 to $149, and it has recently dropped to $123.

There are other notable drops that I will make new posts for for historic tracking of deals since there isn't a lot of that in the ubiquiti space.

Edit:
OK so it is recommended that i combine these posts.

While i cant comment on what is better, it would be worth pointing out this is a closed ecosystem similar to Apple.
You need Ubiquiti gear to run ubiquiti cameras.

    • Depends if you run unifi already 🤷

Ubiquiti cameras can only work with Ubiquiti gear. These cameras wont hook up to your non Unifi Protect (ubiquiti) NVR.

Not true. You can turn on RSTP/S and use that to stream to your existing NVR if you so require.

    • You can also view the stream with VLC if required.
It also supports plain unencrypted RTSP.

    • Yeah it'll work just fine in standalone mode. Even when you set it to managed mode (which disables the stream), the Unifi Protect NVR gives you a URL for rebroadcast.

The real issue is trying to get 3rd party RTSP to feed into the Unifi Protect units now.

  • These are okay. I have a bunch of them and you’ll get about what you expect.

Much better than the Arlo Pro which is what I had before. But not great for making out license plates, or faces in the dark.

    • They are good for the price during the day, but i found the IR to sort of wash out the details on your face.
I'll be grabbing several for my backyard, and will put some better quality cameras in the front. Probably some G5 Domes, a G4 POE Doorbell and a G4 Pro if i can ever stomach the price.

      • Adding an IR blaster can make a world of difference for nighttime footage as they’ll have more range than the cameras own blaster. Also, if you then disable the cameras blaster and rely on the external one, it avoids the issue of insects being attracted to the sensor and getting in the way of your footage.

        • Can you recommend any that work well, look good and are POE?

@jj8aus: Don’t know sorry. Ours is AC powered, standard looking type you see on Amazon.

    • What version(s) are poor for facial and plates at night? There's a difference in specs from the $200 up to a lot of $$ for a camera.

I have the older version doorbell, wi-fi only. It's fine for me and probably most people's home security as they would have a sensor light to illuminate any visitors.

      • I think they are creating a new line of products with "AI" recognition. that auto detect people, pets, cars, license plates. etc.

I can only go by reviews of these for license plates. But for facial quality at night, i was only testing mine last night. and it was like the exposure on the camera was too high for the IR. My face was all washed out. Might be about playing around with the brightness in the settings, but i haven't look into it enough to comment further.

      • G3 night vision isn't the best.

G5 Pro and AI Bullet have better night vision and automatic license plate recognition during the day but apparently not at night.

  • These are good for the money, have several to keep on eye on my dogs.

The G5 flex at twice the price is notably better in terms of image quality both in daylight and night view, just FYI.
