Sony A95L Price $7995 / Negotiating with The Good Guys

Hi all, just looking for some insight into the price I was able to negotiate for the new Sony A95L and it it's pretty reasonable/good?
Asking for some opinions and perspective as I have never bought or owned a TV since moving out (been using a PC screen for over 17 years). Recently partner and I decided it's time to get one. Did my research and was tossing up between the LG G3 77" and the Sony A95L 77".
We also don't really have experience with haggling or buying pricier items as we mostly just buy cheaper things for RRP. This is probably biggest purchase aside from the house and cars that we have made in a decade.

Went to Good Guys for the 77" A95L which RRPs at $9495 - pretty similar across the few Australian suppliers that have orders up as the TV has not released yet. Haggled with salesperson and got it down to $7995 which he said was the absolute most he could do. We were initially semi-ok with this price, but when we looked online they have a 15% off code which you can use on the TV anyway - so almost the same price he gave us. As the price he gave me is the same price online with a coupon, would this be actually a good discounted price/deal for the TV considering it's a premium model and not released yet, or just a more accurate representation of the 'true' price (e.g. a 'discount' off a intentionally inflated RRP to bait those looking for a better deal)

Has anybody else had any success getting a lower price or is this roughly in line with what I should expect for a Sony flagship? We did have a look at A95K pricing etc. and while I couldn't find any 77", the lowest price history we found for the 65" was around ~$4495, which seems to indicate they have only been discounted ~1.6k even a year later (based on the current retail of the A95L 65"). We asked the same GG salesperson if he could discount the A95K, which he said he could not.

Does Sony not discount as much compared to LG, considering GG could do LG G3 77" for ~$5900, which is 2.5k off RRP not even a year later!? The lowest deal I've found for this model on OZB has been $5500.

Thanks for your time and advice!

  • I like Sony TVs but they've expensive.

Save your $$$ and get an LG. LG makes the panels for Sony anyway.

Sure the new Sony may be fractionally better than the LG G3 but is it worth $1k more? Not IMO, let alone $2k more.

I paid about $6.6k for my 83" OLED a couple of years ago. I wouldn't pay more for a 77".

Not arguing about the difference between TVs but I would like to clarify that QD-OLED panels for A95K and A95L are made by Samsung, not LG.

      • There you go, you learn something new everyday.

I could say buy the Samsung instead but I've had poor experience with Samsung.

Software makes a huge difference, the UI/responsiveness on the LG is hot garbage. Would honestly take a TCL over an LG.

      • The UI isn't great I agree.. doesn't matter too much for me as I use Chromecast 95% of the time.

        TCL makes OLED these days?

    • The Sony A95L panel is made by Samsung, not LG

QD-Oled has superior screen unformity compared to LG Oled.

Sony has the best motion of the big 3

Other considerations include stand design/options and warranty. Sony has more configerable stand. LG has a 5 year panel warranty on the G3, but this does NOT cover burn in. I have asked a few times about this.

  • I have been monitoring A95K for a long, long time.

The best you can get right now is actually $4100. Go to Sony website, register for My Sony, get 10% off and use it for the current price of $4500.

That being said, it was cheaper in JB before and you could use discounted gift cards to bring the price further down. But I reckon if you want a very good but expensive TV now, $4100 for A95K is a good price.

Also keep in mind that A95K had always a RRP of $5,000. A95L is priced higher (probably due to weaker AUD).

RRP is a made up number. Ignore it. Focus on the end price, not the $ or % discount.

If you can offer it, have done the research. what are you waiting for? next Christmas?

Just go buy it, enjoy it, and a week later, you will see a massive price reduction, a story of our lives.

People spend 5000 on TV's?? wow.

    • +1

You think they just sit in the shops and never sell any ? really ?

      • not sure what a 5000 TV does that a 1000 one doesnt considering the shit that they put on TV these days.

        • $5k - 80"+ OLed / HDR and good 4K blu ray etc vs 1k similar size and will see some difference.

Now if that difference means different $ to different folks, and plenty of consumers that have deep pockets - though $5k is not really deep pockets, will reserve that for the $15K + flagship models.

        • Law of diminishing returns. The sweet spot is about $1500-$2000 for a TV at the moment (imho).

I have gotten a quote for 7850. Apparently that's the absolute lowest the sales person could go.

    • Who was that from?

  • If you are not in rush to buy, there is a good chance of an RRP reduction before the end of the year. It could RRP 8995 (or close to it). Then you get your 15/20% off that for end of year sales.

FYI - It was suppose to launch at $10,995 and they had to price correct for how late the launch was. Normally about 2-3 months after launch there will be an RRP price drop. Happens on pretty much every model.

  • anyone got their hands on the A95L?
