I finally finished Diablo 3 and the Reaper expansion. Whenever I said I was going to go have a game, my partner would ask "That the clicky game". It made me realise, its just a game where you click the mouse a lot.

  • +2

$85 is the discounted price? Absolute madness.

    • Blizzard tax.

      • With the shit they've pulled on Overwatch 2, I'm genuinely surprised people still believe in this company.

    • Wait until you see Starfield's prices! Thank (profanity) for gamepass because I'm not paying retail on that game.

    • Yeah that sounds like $10 off a regular AAA game price, I'd honestly buy it for $49 will keep waiting and hopefully when its that price its more polished too

    • Excludes season passes too

  • I think the problem is Lilith just isnt scary enough??

  • Season 2 will bring some MUCH needed QoL upgrades, but it still doesnt fix the core issues of the game.

It needed at least another 6 months in the oven, but Activision being the grubs they are shipped it under cooked.

    • Seems to be the industry norm to be fair.

    • +2

Yeah nah, I highly doubt blizzard with its 1000 army of developers will be able add 1 more stash tab by season 3. And even if they manage to pull it off (highly sarcastic) the stash tab will probably be locked behind a premium season pass

    • Too late

  • +1

Bought it and regret it. Stop playing when season 1 comes. Haven't touched it since. Don't waste your money on this game.

  • If you missed out on the release "boom" then I won't recommend this game at this price. It's mostly dead now and just a waiting game for the next season (If you're still into it). The story, graphics and animation is great but once you learn the game, it gets to a point where it's just boring (just after t3 capstone). Maybe at 50% off it's worth.

  • -1

Don’t. I’ve cleared T100 dungeon and uber Lilith now i have nothing to do

    • Not sure if you're joking, but if that is the case it sounds like you put in a lot of hours, and simply finished the game.

I'm surprised anyone even did that, simply grinding one character to anywhere above 80 is an epic bore. I gave up with a mate around 60 something.

      • +1

60-80 is actually fun, I’m constantly getting rewarded with new gears. But I’ll agree 80+ is a grind. I’m sitting at lvl 94 btw, and haven’t touched the game for like a month

    • you've played for probably 150-200 hours easily, at what point do you get your money's worth?

      • When the game is fun

    • why do you want an endless game?

      • Isn’t “live service” games supposed to be “endless”?

Forza Horizon 5 has weekly events, player made tracks, leaderboards , regularly adds new cars

        What does D4 have?

        • D4 has a never ending supply of new cosmetics to buy with the occasional seasonal gimmick every 3 months lol

        • no not really, you do what you have fun doing and then go play something else, endless grind keeps the 1% who complains happy but then they'll say the grind isnt fun blah blah.

Was D2 and D3 endless content? It was more of the same, PoE is also the same, hell PoE makes you do the whole campaign every season, everyone hates it but no one mentions it when recommending it lol, there's always grinds in ARPGs.

          • @Freestyle: Just whether its fun grind or not, in d2r 2 month of play i manage to self find runes for egnima + 2 shako dropped, in d4 haha that shako never gonna appear. D4 just doesnt have the fun "hook" vs its previous iterations and other well known arpg.

        • horse mount armor…lol

  • I will not touch any season of Diablo 4 at the moment. Paying for full price at preordering makes me feel like an idiot.

  • +1

I played regular for a fair while and then tried to get into season 1.

I just can't work out why I am supposed to level up and accrue gear. It seems the only purpose of doing this is to… do this more?

I haven't touched it in a month or so. I dont see the point, especially when my Season 1 character is just going to get nuked when Season 2 gets launched anyway.

    • Your s1 character will just move to the eternal realm.

And your complaint is exactly the same as the d3 seasons, they're just boring and grindy to make you clear rifts.

Personally I hated that in d3 so didn't really do it, but I'm not sure why people suddenly don't like it in D4.

  • already sold my PS5 copy for $50…could've asked for better I know, but you get how much I want to get rid of this game.

  • +2

The game needs a lot of work no doubt but I had fun with it. Got a character to 100 and another to 82 in eternal and another to 85 in season one so far. Haven't played for a few weeks as I've been playing other stuff. The RRP is a joke though.

  • Rubberbanding and lags killed the game for me

  • Im only person who got bored of this game fast….it is incredibly reperative

  • Game has a decent campaign and classes on the surface are fun to play, after reaching halfway to level 50 it just becomes a grind with nothing much to do.
Since the devs themselves don't play the game they are tone deaf to what the game needs and just look at stats they see to make wholesale changes that don't make much sense, they basically treat the players as beta testers, then blame the players are being dumb and expecting too much from them. They are directionless and it shows they have no love of the game, hence why so many are unhappy with it.

  • +8

If you are hoping to spend around 100 dollars and have endless hours of gameplay, you might find yourself disappointed by the majority of games. To those who have complained the game being boring, repetitive or lacking content, it's highly probable that a significant number among you have actually enjoyed the game for a substantial 20 to 50 hours. Personally, I have enjoyed the campaigns and endgame content. Although I don't play as frequently as before, I'm certain I will return for the next season to experience new features and a fresh class. If a game manages to hold your interest for 20 hours and still isn't considered enjoyable, it's uncertain what would meet that criterion.

    • -4

Thank you for telling us how to enjoy games, Harrison. Do you talk like this in real life? I sure hope not.

    • I agree with your statement.

Have a 100 in eternal and an 80 in seasonal, and I've still 3 classes to play. Fair to say I've gotten my moneys worth so far, considering my hours played.

  • +4

To be fair, it an unfinished game with no end-game. At that kind of premium price, you are basically funding the future developments and not the game itself. Metacritic score of 2.0 reflects well the current state of the game.
I won't advise to buy the game as this price, it is unfair and unprofessional towards the customers.

  • +1

I played a few thousand hours on D2. Less than 50 hrs on D4. Boring as hell. All 5 of my friends that bought it with me have also stopped playing

  • +5

This game is dead. I have observed so many evidences to justify that.

For the experience it can provide, $39 is the price I'm willing to pay.

From a 12 years Diablo player.

  • How come everyone was shilling for this game when it came out, what changed??

    • +1

The game is really fun till about level 70. Farming and killing monsters are rewarding because you get stronger pretty easily. Then when you reach level 70+, you need to do meaningless tasks over, over and over due to flaws in their gear farming design/lack of inventory management features - and still you probably won't get any stronger after sinking hours and poorer in gold. So the game replayability suffers greatly because you know what the game will become at the end. I'd say the game was actually way funner during the beta, when the massive world boss was hard to kill and you'd fail at times. They melt under 10 seconds in the late game and they don't drop anything meaningful.

  • +1

A waste of money from a company that is really out of touch of what a modern ARPG should be.
You'd think they would have learned from Diablo 3 and the improvements over 10 years fixing that mess…. But nope, they managed to make it worse.

    • +2

such a shame right…. its a great IP but seems like with the way the company is run, they only care about profits and not showing love for the game. I'm going back to PoE

      • +1

POE is so good. And free. Highly recommended.

  • 22% off is not a good enough deal in my opinion.
I purchased the same on release and enjoyed the story (somewhat) and about 30 levels of gameplay until it became meh..

Once I reached max level I just got bored instantly. It does not have the same grab on me that D2/D3/D2R did. I'd personally wait for a steeper discount

  • yeah I am going to do what I do with every diablo and wait for everythign to be released then buy it :D

  • +1

There's so much noise online about lag, loot, and scaling issues. I had a great time on the initial grind and still enjoy jumping on occasionally.

For the majority of (IRL) people I talk to about it, they loved it, but not the seasonal content. If you're happy taking one or two characters through the game and calling it a day, its well worth the price. If you want 5 years of fun, meaningful progression and endgame, wait til they settle in for a few seasons.

    • Yeah I agree wholeheartedly with your comment on campaign v end game.

  • D2 gave me nightmares great game

  • +1

It is in quite an average state.

It just does not have that hook that D3 seemed to have, I haven’t really gone back to it since I finished it and got to about lvl 85 or so.
S1 character is probably 30 or less which isn’t much when you’ve got the altars too.

It’s fun for the first little while and all that, but end game is so tediously boring I’ve found. Which I don’t understand because D3 end game was grifts and bounties only, but this just doesn’t have that full on hook as I mentioned earlier.

  • +1

Everyone discounting their games in fear of Starfield being released in the next week.

  • +1

never seen a new blizzard game get discounted so fast lol, says a lot

  • +3

Not negging OP for this post, just my way of trying to save others from wasting their $85.

Went into the game with little expectations after D3. Game was somewhat alright for the 1st few days of play, then it gets highly repetitive right after.
I quit playing after about 60 hours of play time.
    Its a brain dead experience.

Absolutely not worth what i paid ($109).
In hindsight, I wouldn't bother even with this discount. It doesn't surprise me why blizzard discount this game so quickly.

    And.. Storyline was eye-rolling lame.

If you're not cashed up, i say save your money for Larian's Baldur's Gate 3 or Armoured Core VI or that coming Bethesda game (no experience playing yet).

Good on OP for sharing tho.

    • fair enough - but BG3 and Armoured core are completely different genres. People play diablo for mostly endgame content (trying out meta builds) and the grind. If you're in it for quality, immersive content, D4 is not it.

      • Indeed, Fair point.
I just mentioned those games as an off hand alternative to spending $85.

That said, im also a fan of Arpg myself and understand the grinding aspect of this genre, but d4 somehow just feels lacking to me & evidently from Op's post, many many others agree too.

If arpg's your jam, I think you'll have a far better time with Grim Dawn & it's various DLCs.

        Just my 2c.

    • stop comparing BG3 userbase and D4 userbase they arent even the same game, everyone doesnt like turn-based

I dont understand why people keep comparing these two games like they are even remotely similar, the only thing similar is that they are both fantasy world and rpgs thats it.

  • +1

Blizzard will almost certainly nerf this discount in their next patch.

  • +1

Not sure why people are hating on this game. Loved the story and having a good time with friends playing nightmare dungeons and on the new season.

  • Please be aware that if you do buy this game you only have 2hrs of playtime grace and withing 14 days of purchase before you are unable to request a refund should you not like it.
Pretty dirty on blizzards part tbh, 2hrs..haha. i already wanna hit the neg button cause of this policy.

  • So I actually made a poll on whether people pre-ordered the game, and a subsequent one as to whether people felt their purchase was worth it, and now 3 months later, I'm curious, for those who said it was worth it since they could thousands of hours - is it still worth it, have you gotten your mileage? And for those that said they'd wait for a sale, there's a sale now, are you going to purchase it - even in light of the knowledge now of their development/balancing decisions, and the dying player base (not that coop is really relevant in the game)?

  • So I still play the game pretty much every night, I have a level 100 necro and 100 rogue, and currently playing a lv87 druid. So I’m not just regurgitating the opinions I see online or of some popular youtuber.

I’m also not that big of a gamer, I just had a gaming renaissance in my mid thirties and my brief experience with D2 and D3 was well-remembered so was excited to play D4. I’ve always been a mmorpg gamer, so the ‘grind’ suits me.

The devs do make questionable decisions with their patches and I felt like season 1 was released prematurely, but all that aside, I personally still find the game engaging. RNG is a big part of the game mechanics, attack proc-ing certain bonuses and endgame item power 800+ gear hunting for perfect aspect rolls. If you don’t like those things, this game is not for you. I think where they fell short (contrary to popular opinion) is the campaign. They really oversold the story with those cutscenes ‘leaked’ 2-3 years in advance of the game release. I personally thought the storyline was the weakest part of the whole game.

I’m happy to have a constructive discussion here if people have any questions that want to ask.

  • Blizzard struggling with this game, already on discount and already have exp bonus weekend. They are already advertising S2……

  • -3

Bought game with blizzbucks earned through redeeming WoW tokens earned in game, didn't pay an actual thing just like every other blizzard product I wanted ever since they added that functionality to the tokens. Couldn't care less about post-endgame mechanics or seasonal rewards, which seems to be the central focal point of most people's complaints. Just gonna enjoy the aesthetics and have whatever fun I happen to get out of it.

  • +1

I preordered the game, easily got my moneys worth despite tge flaws and complete lack of 70+ MEANINGFUL content. Game needs work but if you enjoy this type of game you can easily get some fun out of it. End game is pathetic though, t100 dungeon aint much of a challenge and uber lilith is just an encounter of can you dodge properly rather than a gear and spec check as most of what she does one shots you if you get it wrong.

  • dont bother. lacking end game content. if you like grinding nightmare dungeons for no reason at all go for it and buy it.

  • I'm confused. Why would you buy the Eternal Collection for $45 when the Prime Evil collection is just $33 and also includes D2:R? Am I missing something?

  • This or Baldurs Gate 3?

    • +1

Definitely Baldurs Gate 3. D4 is less entertaining than D2.
