Apple Pay Credit Card before Physical Card Arrives

Hi all,

I've planned poorly and have some large payments coming up. Would like to pay for these on a credit card to earn FF points if possible. Does anyone know if it's possible/do any Aus banks provide access to your new credit card via Apple Pay before the physical card arrives in the mail?

TIA

    Bankwest.
Amex..maybe (think it was just a product change).

Majority of others needed the physical card to activate.

    Maybe Westpac?

(FAQ mentions you only need to activate the physical card if you want to use the CVC on the back of the plastic card https://www.westpac.com.au/faq/digital-card-physical-card-ac…

    Further confirmation https://www.westpac.com.au/faq/digital-card-credit-card-acco…)

      Definitely Westpac

    • Yep and you can access the CVC through the app to make online purchases too.

  • HSBC allowed me to add their credit card to Apple Pay and use it before the physical credit card arrived and was activated. However, the spend limit was limited (around $1K or so) even though the actual card limit might be higher.

Recently did that with NAB Qantas Card.

  • Varies from bank to bank. Westpac and Bankwest do give you access to the expiry and CVV as soon as card is approved. While HSBC lets you add to your phone's wallet, it doesn't provide the expiry and CVV.

  • You can with Westpac, my physical card was destroyed when received and never activated.

  • NAB allowed me to do this. I signed up for a NAB Qantas Rewards Signature card. Was auto approved within minutes, must’ve taken a few mins to initialise. Within 15 minutes I was signed into the NAB app and able to add my card to Apple Pay.

However you aren’t given the full card number, expiry or CVV. So it only works for payments via Apple Pay.
