Recently? Definitely ubereats. They are running a scam. Boycotting them since

  • Blackhawk Network (gift card management and shit website)

    giftcard.com.au (random payment approval)

Norris Motor Group (shit sales / aftermarket products, shit service and just pure scum)

  • The Good Guys, Coles & TPG in any order

    • Forgot about TPG and their month to month contract that you have to cancel 60 days before you want to else they charge you a cancellation fee and extra months usage even if you cancel well before your monthly payment is due. Never again.

Surprisingly no issues with any of these companies. Samsung have been very good with the interactions i have had and I never buy anything from harvey norman no matter how good the offer is.

My top 3 worst companies are adidas, afterpay and westpac.

Ordred 2 items from adidas and they shipped it in one box. Problem is, only 1 item was in the box. After a dozen interactions over 6 weeks with them via phone, email and social media they wouldn't resolve the issue. Pathetic customer sevice who are totally inept at understanding issues and resolving them. Will never buy adidas ever again. Had to resolve through afterpay who processed the payment. Had to get Afca involved as afterpay wouldn't refund me, as adidas provided them with a tracking number. Neither of them could grasp the concept of an item being missing from the box. Contacting afterpay is an ordeal.

Had a personal loan with westpac for about 10k. With about 6k left, i went into a branch and paid it off in full with cash. Then a few months later I received a letter from westpac saying I was in arrears. I contacted them explaining I paid it off. After a couple of weeks of investigating they came back to me saying no payment has been received and you still owe us this money.
You can imagine my anger. How can a bank not have video evidence of me walking into a branch and handing over 6k in cash. I gave them the branch , date and approx time I went to the branch. Also there must be other countless checks they bank does to ensure money is allocated to the correct account. 6k doesn't simply disappear. Long story short, by some miracle I found the receipt of payment which I provided as proof of payment. Case closed with no apology or explanation how they missed this payment being recorded against my loan account. Will never take out any loans with westpac again.

  • It has to be TPG…..greedy without any shame!

    • TPG have recently scrapped web page hosting and are now ditching emails. They are opting to become just a dumb pipe with no extras.

      • +1

It's an odd move for customer retention. My parents have been with Internode since its very early days and have been bound to the service by their email address. Now they're losing it they're finding an independent email host and switching provider. Surely hosting an email server doesn't cost that much for an ISP, apparently it does?

  • Coles Insurance/ Coles Financial services

There are 2 different brands owned/run by two different companies (IAG and NAB (formerly Citi)).

  • +2

Woolworths - pricing issues with online vs in-store, when the website doesn’t even mention online only special on items. Woolworths says the online prices are just estimates unless you make an account and select your location. Misleading bullshit. They’ve also covered themselves well with terms and conditions of using the website so Fair Trading/ACCC won’t help either.

Telstra - overcharged me when I cancelled, and then tried to charge my card again 6 months after I cancelled. Had to get the Ombudsman involved, after which Telstra finally stopped sending me overdue bills and closed my account with them.

Harvey Norman - arrogant and unhelpful staff across multiple stores in my area, refused to help with a warranty return and told me to go through the manufacturer. I’ve never had to quote consumer law more with any other business.

TPG - Never returned the $20 deposit they took when we signed up with them. I gave up after about 15 emails back and forth after cancelling.

  • +1

Woolworths should be on there. Go three mentions so far. But surprised none of the energy retailers made the list.

Origin Hot Water - bite my shiny metal ass.

  • -3

None that I can really think of but from the list centrelink sucks, makes it too easy for lazy people to get money for doing nothing. Then on top of that the lazy people that don't want to work are the ones that are eligible for the majority of the additional benefits, not the hard working tax payers.

  • CBA Insurance (which is Hollard Insurance)

Absolutely the worst POS I have ever encountered. They're criminals. Have no idea how they're operating in a Big 4 bank. But by far the worst.

Jemena (says everything is your fault even when you have phone recordings).

Catch Connect (zero customer service, rubbish)

Spotlight (never seen such grumpy employees before)

Centrelink (at the time, cancelled my claim online for something I provided them 5 times, absolute crooks)

    • +2

Agreed with CommInsure. Might as well be called CommNoInsure. Take your money and come up with most ridiculous excuses to refuse to pay.

    • +2

Spotlight (never seen such grumpy employees before)

They get my vote too and for the same reason. I had a terrible experience with a staff member who refused to acknowledge I existed even after asking for her help 3 times, waving at her and her looking right at me. It was only after I walked right up in her personal space and waved in her face did she speak to me yet still wouldn’t help. I ripped the item I wanted right off the magnetically locked rack myself. Screw you lady!

  • Yahoo. My account clearly got hacked. My account was taken over by a Russian. My account was literally listed on HaveIBeenPwned. But support was useless and wouldn't have a bar of it just because I couldn't exactly remember any recent emails. This caused a lot of problems, as I had many accounts tied to that email, some of which also got hijacked, and it's hard to reset passwords when you don't have access to your email..
There were so many Red flags, such as this account always being accessed from South Australia, until suddenly, someone from Russia logs in, changes the password, and sets up 2 factor authentication. Fortunately, some of the other accounts I was with, actually had decent support, and allowed me to reset the to a new password and email (gmail).
This was also at the exact same time that Yahoo had a very big and well known hacking event. Thousands of accounts got hijacked. It still wasn't enough of a red flag though for some reason.

  • +3

Facebook. Constantly allows spam, scams, fake accounts. While banning accounts and posts that are completely legit. And the software is filled with bugs and errors, and to make things worse, there's almost no customer support. You can't call or email them. You can to use some shitty third party forum that the employees barely even check, and when they do, they provide useless answers that don't acknowledge any of Facebook's shortcomings, or solve any immediate issues.

    • +1

Agree. Our small business facebook account got hacked (hackers logged in, placed ads of illegal things) and now we are permanently banned from placing ads ever again.
No assistance at all and it's a major downfall for the business.

  • Glad to see Hellstra at number 2. They are the primary reason why internet access has always been much more expensive in Australia compared to everywhere else. Even the GimpCO (NBNCo) has to pay them 2 billion a year for their copper. If the government had of gone 100% FTTP this payment would not have been necessary. I remember being on a Cable modem plan 22 years ago; they decided to jack up the price by $20 and greatly reduce your bandwidth quota at the same time.

  • Toll - Never deliver my parcels and are useless when you call them up.

TPG - Tried to scam me of my deposit when I changed provider. Would not budge until I mention ACCC.

Vodafail - Stuffed me around on promo credit and claimed they needed a month to read their emails. Hadto call them numerous times waiting on the phone for ages before being stuffed around. Issue finally got resolved after getting a hold of a semi competent manager.

    • Vodafone yes, my mrs took out a new contract, the handset she wanted was out of stuck.

The operators couldn't get their head round the fact that she shouldn't be paying a handset fee until she had the physical handset. this went on for three months, multiple operators and they could not see an issue being charged for a handset when you don't have it, I get that its a fee spread over the contract but not paying it until I have it. My mrs couldn't be bothered pushing them, I would have for sure.

  • Woolworths

  • optus
    harvey norman
    tangerine

  • Harvey Norman - consistently bad experiences. Weird interactions with sales people.

Luxo Living - disorganised, and bad customer service. They're also on a fair trading public warning list. What, to me, looks like manipulation of online reviews.

    Honorable mentions:

Woolworths - 4 phone calls to resolve an issue with a significant number of missing items

Local council - archaic systems, often no response to emails.

    • -2

I had a chat with a male salesperson at HN in laptops area.
He didn't know much, less than what would be on the box.
He had long blonde hair and very noticeable female tits.
I am so glad virtue signalling is more important than product knowledge.

      • +1

It sounds like you may have been a bit distracted.

That sounds like the typical HN salesperson in my experience anyway. They generally don't know too much and try to steer customers to more expensive machines that they don't need. Then they push overpriced add-ons and extended warranties.

  • +1

what, no paypal? #1 for me. Thieves and thieving facilitators.

  • McGrath real estate.

  • where is JETSTAR!

    • oh yeah how about Tiger, my flight was delayed 8-9 hrs. No prior notice. Never used ever since them. Very glad they no longer exists.

    • Added !

  • I know it's not an option for everyone, but I found Telstra, big banks and many others were horrendous on-line, but very good when I went to their outlets/shops - assuming they have them. However, I have avoided qantarse for about 25 years as they slid downhill. I believe they are even far worse than that now. Part of the solution is to remedy the problem of our non-existent laws regarding consumer rights and flight delays/cancellations. Europe, USA and Canada among others already have these laws.
I wanted to vote 'for' Aramex/Fastway as well - I've never had a parcel delivered from them without a lot of fuss and bother. I have written to suppliers to tell them I'm not buying from them because they use these cowboys for delivery.

  • Fastaway and Aramex should be merged

  • Where's Citibank? Been mentioned a few times already.

    And annoyed I can't vote 1,2,3 :).

Gerry can suck it for first place every time (based on previous experiences, and Gerry lobbying his LNP mates for GST on all online purchases overseas, I don't care how cheap something is at HN I will NEVER spend a cent there ever again. Hope he gets cancer… bloody crook!), but Citibank for 2nd (OMG. Their foreign based phone support is truly the worst example of customer service you will ever experience… never have I wanted to reach through the phone and kill someone more), and Maccas for 3rd (overpriced horrible product with quality dropping year after year- but prices keep going up! Kids know to not even ask- even when we are traveling. Not a single cent will ever go to Maccas again. So glad they struggling- return on revenue is lowest in years. And they don't pay their fair share of local taxes. F them… F them long and hard).

    • Added and yeah can only vote once, its a limitation on ozb's end

Samsung , Harvey Norman and Optus are my top.

Samsung , wouldn't replace a watch strap that was faulty and rma'd in other countries for a design flaw, 7 months in to a 2 year warranty. Accessories are only 6 months it seems, the watch strap is an accessory. I bounced between Telstra and Samsung to get and answer and they just fobbed it off. I also tried to claim for a crack in my zfold 4 after 18 months and they didn't want to entertain.

Optus are just painful, they don't seem to understand what you are asking them a lot of the time and you are just escalated up the chain until you go away. I got a decent deal for my phone so I am still with optus.

Harvey Norman after sales care. Tried on a couple of occasions and they just make it too hard.

Commendable stores/ retailers who I have had great dealings with. Officeworks , Bunnings , fitbit … exchange add refund no questions asked and no real dramas. Logitech they are a bit painful to deal with their support staff but if you persevere with them they replace old for new.

  • Why isnt Jetstar on the poll list?

  • +3

PayPal. Rip you off at every step.

  • Spintel.

  • Qantas and AusPost both would be top of my list. Probably banks too. But Qantas and Auspost both have awful services but their profits have risen steeply. I don’t understand how these both businesses survive. Just pure monopoly and brand power

  • Chemistwarehouse??

    Foxtel

Who openly sell their 4K packages at a premium and then actively hide their 4K channels (sport in particular) to save on bandwidth for those non-satellite users. You can challenge them on this and they will admit the deceptive tactics and offer you significant discounts over the phone.

Optus. For retaining private information beyond the requirements, then initially suggesting that the cost (let alone the time!) associated with replacing ID documents was the consumers problem.

  • Budget direct. Hate them.
Had to go to AFCA to sort out claims with them… twice.

    Where is Ticketek ????

  • LJ Hooker, in Southport along Scarborough Street. They gave me a receipt for my bond top up (rent increased), RTA never received it, called LJ Hooker and they were condescending and gaslit me that it was sent but wouldn't give me proof that it had been. The receipt only proved that they'd received the money from me, and receipt had described the receipt as a bond payment, as opposed to rent.

    • I haven't rented for a while now, but never had to topped up the bond before - both in QLD and NSW. The last place I rented, the rent went from $360 to $650 (over 10 years, from 2002 to 2012) and did not had to top up the bond at any stage.

    • I tried to cancel my policy and they refuse to remove my credit card

and then instead of cancelling they paused the policy so they get fees how bad is that

4WD Supacentre - Sell cheap chinese junk and then won't honour their own returns policies
Telstra - Signed up for a new mobile plan recently after being on Aldi mobile for the last 5 years. Signed up on the 10th June, Telstra told me that as I had previously had an account with them and my billing date was previously the 24th, I would be billed twice in the first month, rather than bill me pro-rata. Made complaint to TIO who were useless.
TIO - Allowed Telstra to suspend my mobile services whilst in dispute.

    • Thought the Kings brand was alright in quality

      • Depends on the product really.
I have a swag that has lasted me since 2017, however several other products I have bought recently have died on me.
I purchased seat covers from them recently for a new car and their store manager swore black and blue they would fit my car, got them home to find they didn't fit and then they wouldn't refund me my money, telling me it was a "change of mind".
Eventually got my money back after sending them a letter of demand threatening to take them to VCAT.
        Never again.

        • and you spoke to the same store manager?

yeah I did notice a decrease in quality over the years…. this is why it is good to have warranty and credit card merchandise protection, extended warranty

    AUSTRALIA POST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Uber, more specifically Uber Eats is the company I have issue with the most. Order a meal, delivery driver completely messed up the order. Most likely swap my order with someone else's. The driver took the incorrect order back, drove off never return, UberEats refused to refund.

Samsung - only issue I had was with the call centre, Samsung store was great. Had a phone that the microphone wasn't working on arrival. Call centre suggested that the phone still "works" (it just doesn't work as a phone/for voice call :D). Samsung George St. store replaced it on the spot.

Harvey Norman - I don' buy from them often, but have had good runs with them so far. Recently had a microwave stopped working after about 18 months. Got it replaced (at a different store from initial order) on the spot. The staff couldn't be more helpful in fact.

TPG: pay us a $20 deposit in case you exceed your bill
    *When you decide to leave
TPG: your $20 deposit is forfeited

Happened a few times. I'd just ask them to give me an invoice / explanation of what the $20 was for / what service I received for the $20 and they'd begrudgingly refund it just this once as an 'act of good fath' GTFOH

    Good Guys.

ordred a new MacBook Air for my MIL, it was listed as sent but never left the store. It took almost 4 weeks for me to get the money back and the day I got the money back the MacBook Air turned up looking like the box had been kicked a few times, plastic ripped etc.

Then a few weeks later I ordered a fridge, was told it would be in within 2 weeks… again, 4 weeks later.. still no fridge. Ended up getting my money back and buying it through Appliances online for $20 more, it turned up within 3 days. These days I just skip the good guys when I'm looking to buy something.

Second worst would be EB games.

NRMA have been a nightmare to deal with regarding a storm damage claim. I'm not going to go into the whole story here but they ended up offering money by way of apology, so that gives you an idea.

Any large Tech company or Telco seems to think properly supporting their systems is optional. Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Telstra, Optus, Vodafone. Good luck if you have a problem. Telcos use to be responsive some years ago but they're taking their cues from the tech giants and giving small customers the middle finger and the run around when there's a problem.

Speaking of tech: Maccas app. Store couldn't find the transaction. Help line couldn't find the transaction. My bank account sure found it. In the end they offered credit on another meal, but it took a month. What kind of app creates transactions that can't be tracked down by the company?

I caught one of their delivery drivers on camera literally stealing my headphones.

I was downstairs with one driver and the other driver was upstairs. I couldn't find my headphones so watched the camera then saw it. A senior manager said "It's unfortunate this has happened, but it's not our issue. We outsource our drivers, it's up to them who they hire."

A lot of these companies are awful but I think the ones that annoy me most are when you have no choice but to use them because of a third party.

Like I can’t just decide to “go elsewhere” for Auspost, or Ticketek, for example. I’m stuck with what the vendor chooses. Even if I’m willing to pay to avoid them, which I am: most of the time there’s simply no option to do so.

    Computer Alliance.
Their prices can be ok. The whole experience is generally fine unless you need to return something or talk to someone… that is when things fall down. Some of the staff can be extremely rude. I remember during COVID an old man was being berated for not standing inside his marked box on the ground (for social distancing). He was clearly confused and they were just being ridiculously over the top.
If you have a computer that needs to be looked at, you have to put it into a literal queue. They say that they need your PC to be on site to be in the queue, and that it may take 1 to 2 weeks for them to look at it. There is no option to be in any sort of digital queue, whereby you bring in your PC once they have availability to look at it (or at least the day before). I am quite convinced this is just a tactic to deter people from actually getting any warranty service, as for most people the cost of the inconvenience is higher than the cost of just purchasing a new part.
Check out their google review and some of the stories.
