  • Those Lintons are tempting :|

    • Don't bother, nothing special. They're huge speakers with an unclear prescription of stage.

      • Comes down to personal taste I think. I demo'd them and a few others and I always gravitated back to the Lintons.

  • Starting from $439 for a pair from my quick check.

Because I had a couple of minutes to spare.

      I would have purchased a 12.1 had I not recently purchased a Q Acoustics 3030i.

  • can anyone compare this centre to the q acoustics 3090ci

    • +1

If you have the Q already the 12.c would be a side grade IMO
Biggest difference in the2 would be the 12.c is proper sealed enclosure vs the 3090ci being ported with foam bungs faux sealed

      • yeah happy with my current setup just wondering if anyone has hands on experience with the two ,

to be honest I would love a shop which rented out audio gear so we could try different setups at home

  • Normally above my budget, but would a pair of 12.0 match well to an SW100, with everything <70Hz taken good care of?

    • If you're referring to a Yamaha NS-SW100, this plays down to 25 Hz which should be adequate, I see no issues as long as everything is compatible connectivity wise. Do you have a receiver?

      • No, Sorry, I should have been clearer.

It's a Warfedale active sub that serendipitously (but legally!) came into my orbit recently and is taking the load of my desktop speakers.

https://picclick.com.au/WHARFEDALE-subwoofer-DIAMOND-SW100-G… [Illustration only, not that one]

Setting up a pair of those [70 Hz ->] on the tuneable sub[Dances with Elephants] and setting the passthrough filter around there sounds like a plan to me - on paper - but numbers rarely tell the whole story with audio.

        • +1

If you have a sub with adjustable LPF, or a receiver, you can usually tune it by ear. It also helps to play around with positioning in the room. You can either set the crossover for the speakers (if you have a receiver) and adjust LPF on the sub, OR let the speakers naturally play full range and adjust the LPF to where the speakers roll off at the low end. It helps to know the frequency response range and db/octave roll-off to set this, but can always do it by ear to what sounds right.

  • I had the Diamond 9.5's for 10+ years and they were an amazing pair of speakers.
Highly recommend the Diamonds for a good entry level pair of speakers

  • Love these speakers!

  • I'm looking into upgrading my record player system, would one of these be good for that? Currently I just have my record player plugged right into my Edifier bookshelf speakers but looking to get a amp and a new pair of speakers

    • +1

      Yes.

Just don't compare the prices to what you'd pay in the UK or US…and you'll be fine.

(I'm keen on the 12.4…. But they are just way too expensive in Australia)
