Amazon has the cheapest price I can find for this great little hybrid electric/hand grinder from Hario. Selling elsewhere from $130 - $200.

The stick itself normally sells for $100, and does fit some other Hario hand grinders (check compatibility before buying for this purpose).

Any idea if this is good for espresso? I'm assuming not though

    • +2

I use it for filter, but would be fine enough for espresso (terrible pun). High up on the lower tier grinders.

Cool, I'll look into it a bit more before committing if it's still available tonight.

Any idea how long it would roughly take to grind an espresso shot? Like 18g of it

        • +1

Pretty much bang on 30seconds for 18g. Pretty coarse setting though a pourover.

I would suggest at this price you get a manual grinder like a Timemore. You will get much better results and it will also last a lot longer

      • +1

This is a manual grinder and Hario ceramic grinders are pretty well regarded.

      • Yep as per above comment was wondering if this can compete with the likes of kingrinder / timemore for espresso grinding since the base is a manual grinder, I just haven't considered the harios.

Edit: although that being said I'd prefer a full size electric grinder, but budget won't allow for the nice ones :(

    Wow, excellent price.

I use this grinder until I can justify the upgrade. Strong recommend at this price.

Needs a charge about once every 2 months. Only thing I wish I knew before buying is that you need to hold down the power button to grind.

Only thing I wish I knew before buying is that you need to hold down the power button to grind.

Nothing a lacky band and a bit of folded paper cant fix ;) or get fancy and 3d print something to slide over it and hold the button in.

      • Great idea!

  • Alternative Brewing states it’s 6mm and will fit Hario Slim drive spindle. My Slim’s between 6 and 7mm. Otherwise pretty good review

This set comes with a small grinder. The stick is also compatible with some other Hario handgrinders (those with slim drive spindle as you say).

      • I’m not sure it’ll fit my Slim if the review is correct and it’s 6mm

My Slim’s drive is between 6 and 7mm, I’d have to buy a 6.5mm socket to use it with an electric screwdriver

        • Hard to find definitive answer on this. Hario site (https://www.hario-europe.com/products/electro-solo-portable-…) indicates the stick is compatible with the following:

          Coffee Mill Smart G (MSG-2)
Ceramic Coffee Mill Mini Slim (MSS-1B)
Ceramic Coffee Mill Mini Slim Plus (MSS-1DTB)

I saw elsewhere that it is also fits the Hario Skerton Pro, but I can't find that officially. I can say for sure that it does not fit my older Hario Skerton.

I can say for sure that it does not fit my older Hario Skerton

Thanks, my Slim might well predate the 6mm drive standard too

3Camels shows this to be the regular price since the start of July… fluctuations due to currency exchange. Been as low as $93.38 last month. https://3cmls.co/AU/B084SSQZTH

    • Thanks @Gav. This is not a special price per se, and hopefully it remains available at this price for the long term. The deal has come about with Amazon making Amazon JP products available via the AU site from July. Prior to that it wasn't available via Amazon AU. By far the cheapest price I've seen for it.

Yes, it's why many of us went nuts buying Hario goodies like in this deal - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/777405. :) Should be the new norm, unless Amazon AU remove Amazon JP in the future.
