Have they fixed the performance on ps5 yet? Last time i tried the frame drops were pretty severe in performance mode
This comment is delusional, please disregard. The perofrmance is still very bad unless you can handle 30fps quality mode which is decent but still drops into 20s in places and cutscenes. The 60fps performance mode is unusable.. There is screen tearing, it's not 60 locked, and the resolution becomes so low it's like ps3 pixelated days..
There is another patch coming out, hopefully this week though.
As for the game itself, it's Goty for me so far.

@cnut: Yep, runs like a dogs breakfast on Xbox. One of the worst AAA releases as far as performance goes in a long time. The fact that they still haven’t even bothered to fix it is ridiculous. I won’t be going back to it until it’s in a decent state.
They haven’t. Performance mode is still a mess and feels extremely jerky. Smooth at 30 fps, if that’s enough for you.
It's a little better, but still not anywhere near what I would consider acceptable for a AAA title - especially months after launch. I am quite sensitive to FPS drops and found it so bad I needed to run in 30fps locked mode for my first playthrough. I did a second playthrough and the first level was better, but still get some severe drops with the following levels - even with the resolution locked to 1080p.

I'm a huge apologist for FPS. The PS5 has a ~3060 in it and it tries to upscale many games to 4K. Getting a constant 60 or 40 FPS in every game - even later now in the optimisation cycle - was never going to be realistic at 4K for this gen and anyone who thought it would be has gotten too much sun.
Even I can't apologise for this game which is a jaggy unplayable mess that really hasn't been much improved.
The worst crime though remains the initial console reviews - that gave it 9/10 with the most kid gloves framing of 'ok, there are some performance issues…'. If reviewers hadn't pulled their punches, and called it totally unacceptable in 2023 at the time of release, maybe they'd have done something about it.
As it stands, the game is probably, unjustly, still selling reasonably well - especially now at $59 - where I'd still avoid getting it unless you're willing to sit on it a year and see if they do fix it.

Is the performance poor because of the anti crack software? So the studio, to spite a small percentage of people that would never become customers, ruined their product for actual customers. Cutting off your nose to spite your face

Nonetheless the devs thought it is a good idea to proceed with developing a last-gen console version; which I read as "we've got enough money and resources, and market research to make more money, whilst ignoring the current issues on our plate".
Enjoyed the first one on Game Pass, waiting for this one to come out Game Pass too.

Be wary of ebay click and collect with EB games. Have been burnt by then in the past (and lots of feedback on their account from others) where they accept the order then say they're out of stock, even when there is clearly stock on their commercial website and also physically in the store nominated for click and collect.
This happened with the Returnal $19 deal a while back

@Mingles: okay so tested it out, its very dependant on the area you're playing in, some areas that are not part of the main open world-ish planet i get 170fps, other areas i get 80 fps
on average i would say its at about 120ish fps

Reason for asking is I bought it for PS5 but haven't started it yet … but hearing about the performance issues (similar to FF16).. I'm gonna wait to get a copy on PC and play it there instead.

I think i'll just wait, with the ongoing performance issues until it's in the bargain bucket later in the year.
The game runs like absolute ass, I've got mine set to performance on my 77C1 and it's not smooth it all.. only played a couple hours but it's been enough for me to hold out playing it until it's patched
