80:20 principle: Because people pay 80% more money for 20% more functionality.
In some ways that 20% can be more difficult to engineer than the 80% as well. I’m sure there’s a heap of markup added as they become more popular but I’ve been holding out on buying one because if I’m going to buy a robot vacuum then I want it to be very close to set and forget. I’m happy to empty and refill some bin liners & water tanks once a week and do some maintenance once a month or so but otherwise I don’t want to be manually spot cleaning or playing around with the app. Engineering a robot vacuum from something that does a reasonable job up to that very convenient, almost hands off level is tough
What happened to your robot vac?
its still going strong, that's my point! :)
In short more smarts and suction power. Better mapping and obstacle avoidance
these robovacs are life changing if anyone's borderline considering.
Anyone seen any S8 Ultra version deals yet? Even with the current eBay promo it's still showing $2500
I had the original xiaomi robot vacuum. The battery become kaput after a while. Bought a replacement battery. It says the battery charge is full but the moment it trys to undock from the charger it is dead again. Very frustrating dont know why. Measure the battery it reads 1.1v thereabout so not sure if it is the battery fault of the xiaomi wasnt charging properly. Overall not a good experience.
My colleague got the first gen of LG / Samsung and the battery dead before the machine. Just irreplaceable.
Has anyone tried using the S8 mop function? Is it better or the same as S7?
Better:
The S8 also feels better built and has a vibrating mop system that's more efficient in scrubbing away stains.

I remember buying xiaomi robot which doses 80% of the job 5 years ago for around $300. Why are this robot vacuums not going down in price?
