    Why is this a bargain?

    • -4

      cause no joining fee

      • +6

I've never paid a joining fee.

        • +2

its pretty standard now, I agree its bullshit but gyms got really expensive in the last 12 months.

        • Because

        • Did marketing for gym brand in Sydney.
Yes it's a pure cash grab.
Negotiate hard because 99% of gym is a sales game from the moment you see the ads.

  • Apparently there is $199 bonus pack as well. Wonder what thay means

    • +8

It means you will most likely need to sign up to a long and expensive contract to get it.

      • Lol. Probably

    • +1

The bonus pack is generally a string bag, bottle and towel. Then they give you “free” PT sessions which they price as the $199 value. The free sessions are a trap to get the trainer to try to rope you into regular sessions.

      • Hahahaha

  • you pay 199 for their bonus duh

  • But how hard is it to cancel?

Gyms always seem to make it impossible to cancel.

    • With anytime fitness if you wish to cancel before the contract ends you have to pay 50% of the remaining contract

      • Wtf, plus fitness is way better in that matter. Just two weeks of notice and you could pause it anytime

        • Here’s the kicker it cost money to freeze at anytime

          • @StarPlatinum: not sure, but the one I used to go to had an option of pausing without any penalty. The only clause was that the pause had to happen before the next direct debit day

            • +1

@mynameisborat: On there contract and my sister whos an anytime fitness member it cost 2.50 to freeze and it extends ur contract by the amount u freeze " Your Membership will be extended by the freeze period. A weekly Freeze Fee of up to $2.50 may apply"

    • +1

just get a Dr certificate, they wont dare challenge or rarely question. or just say for personal/health reasons.

      • This.
Or tell them that you're moving (far away) from their gym for a few months plus.
        The contract game is bullshit.

    • Also for cancellation, you need to send them an email or talk to the front desk in the gym, usually, they say 30 days before the date of cancellation but I had experience of cancelling in 2~3 weeks

    • +3

      +1 for Revo Fitness.
All the other franchise gyms are gonna get crushed by them cos they won't be able to compete on price & offering

      • +1

With that kind of basic service (which is all many of us want) and a matching price I'm pretty sure they can pinch a fair bit of market share! If one opens up near my place in the east of Melb - let's say Doncaster ;) I would join in a heartbeat and get all my mates to join too lol

        • +1

The advantage they have is that they are not franchised, so don't have all the franchise overheads. Who wouldn't switch over to Revo if one opened up next to their existing gym; especially at $9.69 per week, no joining fees, and buy 1 month and get extra 2 months free.

    • Only 3 in Melbourne at the moment - I would like them to hurry up and open more - especially one here in the East! XD

  • +1

How can I join without paying the access card? I went to 2 places and they said I have to pay so I didn't join.

    • +2

Get one from fb marketplace for cheap and ask them to re-program it. This is applicable to any 24/7 gym.

      • +1

they refuse to use old ones. I tried this with a mates and they wouldnt do it

  • +6

Just remember, joining fee's are made so they can waive something

    • +1

Signup today for 50% off - today only! *

*24hr cooling off period, 12month contract.

Thats how gyms roll. Except Jetts- they dont seem to have a joining fee, contracts, plus cancel anytime with only 2 week notice.

      • Legislation states a week [or two] cooling off period for 'contracts'.

        • When I signed up to one end of last year in VIC, the T&C said 24hours, I think only WA was 5 or 7 days.
So I assume it differs by state.

  • Can i share membership with a friend and go to gym at different times?

    • Definitely not. They take your photo when you sign up, and their cameras use facial recognition. I can tell you for sure their facial recognition works as I once accidentally grabbed the wrong jacket. They viewed the footage of me taking it and used the facial recognition to find me. Luckily I’d already called and left a message that I’d realised I had the wrong jacket and was returning it, so they knew I didn’t steal it. But they were literally able to look me up from the footage. Unless your friend is your identical twin, it won’t work.

      • +1

They use verdaka cameras, not face recognition.

My freind uses his brothers anytime fitness pass all the time, they have never been caught. He is 20 and his brother is 39. One in blonde and the other is dark.

      • Yeah nah. They don't use facial recognition. Probably cross referenced the time, swipe passes and the video camera of the entrance/exit.

  • Only worth it if you have AIA Vitality

When AIA Vitality members work out at Anytime Fitness gyms not only do they earn AIA Vitality points to earn weekly rewards – but if they work out on 24 separate days per quarter (approximately two times per week) they get a $100 cashback – they can earn one cashback each quarter, which means up to $400 cashback per year!

    • Where did you copy this from? I recently joined AIA and from what I read/what I was told there is no longer any Anytime Fitness benefits.

  • +1

$70 access card seems like a joining fee to me. Unless it's just a deposit

    • +1

They all have this. Lose the tag and its another $60. As if a NFC tag costs more than $5.

      • +1

See my previous comment. You can get one from fb marketplace and ask them to re-program it.

      • More like a roll of 100 for $5 😂

  • $850 a year for gym. What a bar-loss.

  • $885.35 / 52 = $17.03 per week…

    AND:

Each club is independently owned and operated and sets its own prices so fees will vary between Clubs.

So who wants to visit their local and be told oh hey sorry it's $23.60 per week here. LOL

  • thats really not cheap at all for a year considering you are locked in

  • +3

So for those who have a revo fitness membership. I don't work there but not only is it:

    • less than $10 a week

    • most of their buildings have been fully renovated

    • their machines have a flick to load the weights so no need to pull out the pin

    • they have massage chairs

    • no initial access card fee

    • you can access any revo gym for the same $10 a week and there is no joining fee at all times

    • multiple locations

    • good diverse community

    • security after hours

Just a few points that came to my head, unsure how these other gyms are gonna compete because it's effectively $520 a year for their base membership and provides everything other gyms have besides the pool and sauna, but at this point I'm sure all Ozbargainers have their own private pool and sauna.

    • Wuttt pls share the pool and sauna deals! XD

  • There are other gyms providing cheaper options if you don't want 24X7 access. e.g. https://www.crunch.com.au/join-now/

    • +1

      PAYG $12.95 * 2 + $1 fortnightly fee = $26.90 per fortnight = $699.40 per year
      Final Month's Membership Fee $43.80
Annual Up-keep fee of $44.90 (Charged 90days from your start date and on that anniversary each year)

      Total = $788.10 per year.

Not much difference to the OP here.

  • Is it a bargain?

  • +1

$17/week with a 12 month contract is ridiculous when you could sign up to Planet Fitness for $5/week with no contract (assuming you have one nearby).

Anytime Fitness is going to be forced to be competitive with PFs popping up everywhere.

    • Wow!!! I want Planet Fitness near me now already plllleeease!! Unfortunately the only one in Victoria is in Corio which is hours away from Melbourne lol. Open up more here especially to the East of Melbourne pls!

  • My local club charges 100 a month

  • +2

Anytime fitness franchisee system is a cash grab. I went here last time around and they prepped me for signing the dotted line. I said I don't want contract and the joining fee came back and the fob was 100 and the weekly went from 17 to 24.95 a week. It was 185 startup cost to me. Also as soon as I said to the lady that I don't want contract. Felt like her body was dehydrated of all the sweetness she was giving me earlier. More than 50% of the people joining on an annual will never do the whole year and by signing a contract they can't quit. Anytime fitness is a boycott. Don't go there. By the way my bad experience was Craigieburn VIC. Manager was rude as hell.

  • My local gym access card fee is $99 which makes it a deal breaker. The weekly membership cost is justifiable compared to plus fitness cos my local one has just been renovated

  • Bad deal. Just bad.

  • Damn, I'm paying $20/wk at my local gym, was a 6m contract

  • Something important to note about Anytime, if you use a particular club more than the one you joined at, your membership will automatically transfer to the one you are attending most. There can be a price discrepancy of up to $20 a month.

My local Anytime is only $60 a month, and while housesitting I attended another club. Membership moved to that one and went up to $70. My local manager was kind and helped me get my old price back. I since moved, and inquired at a closer Anytime about their price. EIGHTY DOLLARS. So I have to keep going back to my old one to keep my price. Just keep that in mind if you find a cheaper club, don’t think that means you can start attending a more expensive one. Other gyms like Fitness First and Goodlife don’t pull this nonsense.
