Hiring a Housekeeper - Where to Find?

Has anyone got a recommended place to find a housekeeper to help with common household tasks on a casual basis? Eg cleaning, tidying kids rooms, laundry, etc

I've Googled and found a website called care.com but the first thing it does is to get me to join for $90 just so I can message the profiles on the site… Seems a bit dodgy.

Is there an equivalent of something like hipages for cleaners/housekeepers?

Thanks

Try posting on your community facebook group. Others could recommend, or someone might offer their services, which you can then trial. Also easier because they at least service that area (need to factor traveling time).

    Get a Wife

    Negs inbound XD

Need to ensure you tick the optional cleaning add on during check out though.
I didn't read the fine print and therefore those tasks aren't explicitly included in the contract :)

If I don't do them, Thong inbound and its accurate AF

      • Need to ensure you tick the optional cleaning add on during check out though.

Don't forget the coitial services checkbox too.

        • Lots of boxes i didnt get checked.

    • tidying kids rooms

      Second wife?

    • Lol good luck with that, unless you find one from a village in Africa according to Eddie Murphy.

The problem with this idea is I'm an unlikable loser.

Housekeeper way cheaper and less hassle in the long run.
Also cheaper to change to better one if service standard slips.

you'll probably find it difficult to source a reliable casual housekeeper. anyone half decent is generally 'booked' and has a schedule of clients they fit around.

we got our cleaner via word of mouth - and was able to nab her as she had availability for a set time on a specific day on a fortnightly basis. Adhoc/casual - they werent interested in as at the end of the day, its their job - they cant be sitting around waiting for the call up.

I'm actually in Manila right now.

Wife and I were debating getting a maid last night.

I disagreed as I've had maids before and they eventually become a pain in the arse - start asking for things, bring their own family problems in to my place, etc.

Also, most Australians aren't used to live-in help living under the same roof as them.

      • Maybe pay extra for a professional maid, instead of a regular person.

        • These people are 'professional' maids. That's what they do. Be a maid.

Nowadays, there are professional cleaning services instead so I'll likely hire them to clean my place 1-2 times a week.

@tallkid123: Professional as in they get paid for it, sure. But I mean the other definition of professional, like they are very good at it, they take it seriously, are part of an organised service, have certified training, etc.

It does take some getting used to but it's great not having to do chores or cooking. I firmly believe that it's a contributing reason as to why many
        ex-pats remain ex-pats.

I've been sent overseas three times for work where a maid was part of the package but I've never taken it up. I just don't like the idea of having a stranger in the house at all times. I prefer my privacy and I've always been happy to clean after myself.

Post one off jobs on Airtasker until you find someone you like and then offer them cash to come back on casual basis.

    • This!

  • Airtasker is quite good as you can check their reviews online.

Otherwise, check with neighbours/parents from school. A colleague even approached the cleaners at his kids' school.

Hipages has plenty of cleaners/housekeepers, we've got our last few from that platform successfully.

    Don’t be so lazy

  • I'd tend to be talking with people who have someone they're happy with - you need trustworthy and effective.

  • Plenty of cleaning companies online that do this sort of thing. Also individuals advertising on Gumtree. Best option ask for a recommendation on your local Facebook page.
