Reverts to $49/month after 12 months (set a reminder to switch). Ends 3/9/23.

Set a reminder to get a new driver's licence.

    • +2

Instant access to dark web too

      • +5

Boring, didn't like the comment? Move on!

        • -6

Herd mentality , your obviously a fan.

  • +2

You need to port in, this isn't for existing customers (according to their Live Chat team).

    • +3

I was able to do it.
currently on a mth-to-mth $49 plan with Optus, went through the process (link above) and "Upgraded" my plan to this. keeping my optus no the same.
lets hope my bill next mths is NOT $73.50 LOL

      • I'm in the same situation but $42 Inc optus sport

Do you have to get a new sim?

        • on an eSIM. They rang to confirm my order so I guess it went through. also I didnt have to organize a new eSIM, so just keep on going.

      • I went through chat and they didn't let me

        • just follow the link and go through with it.

      • Trying to do the same as I am already with Optus. Going through the process of "upgrading", but I am stuck on the long form. I have completed everything but for some reason the field for Expiry Date of identity doc keeps saying "Expiry date entered is not valid". I tried mobile and desktop, various date formats, drivers license and passport - same error. How did you do it??

(Hitting the live chat doesn't help because as others said, it is only meant for new Optus customers)

Received a very similar offer for being an
    Optus NBN customer.

    https://campaign.optus.com.au/mobile/plans/50-off-sim-plan-o…

Assume need to port in as well.

    $24.50 - Small Choice plan 30gb data
    $29.50 - Medium Choice plan 100gb data

    • Thanks a lot. Got on to chat and got the 100GB plan.

    • +1

Can you get the offer without using their nbn?

      • I was able to. I don't have any other optus services.

  • +5

Join Optus at your own risk, absolute worst scumbags on the market. Never again.

    • Agree! Not worth it tbh

      • +3

Going by that logic , there is many companies that have had data breaches. Aren't you going to complain about them too ?
Or is it just herd mentality ?

  • +2

this is a good deal to change over form Telstra JB HI fi deal - wait a year then hop on a new one and get a $500 gift card
I think you can also get $28 from cash rewards - so first month free

    • That's my thinking, got the 100gbs $69 deal with Telstra last October but looking to change to this deal. Did you just cancel your final month with Telstra? My plan runs until the 19 of October.

Every time I see Optus pop-up on the Live Feed it reminds me to check to see how the Slater and Gordon class-action lawsuit is going…

    • +3

Lawyers probably keep 90% of the payout, thats usually how class action lawsuits work in australia…..

    • How do you sign up for that?

  • +1

Works out cheaper than getting 365 prepaid + optus sports

  • +1

I got sucked into Optus last year on the Samsung Tablet deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/696220 with the included worldwide personal advertising.
So last night i go onto Optus Chat and they gave me the Optus Choice Data Plan $20 reduced to $5 a month so now i'll probably resubscribe to Optus Sports.

Forgot to add, had to use Mastercard digital Identity as verification so will see who this works out regarding security of personal details.

    • Did you cancel the original tablet plan after the 12 months and then re-signed up?

      • +1

No, typical of me I had forgotten all about it. ended up paying 2 months at full price ($25) DOH!
So went online to cancel and they offered the discount on the new 20GB Data plan.

        • +1

Damn. Got the same tablet deal and had a reminder set to cancel the day before the 12 months expired. But I must have got the day wrong and I was just started a new month going by the live chat. No pro rata refund when i asked to cancel but they gave me the same deal for that month ($5 instead of $20).

          • @Whatisthatvelvet: How long is the $5/mth deal for? Thanks

            • @xdigger: I was only offered the deal for the month that I cancelled. They did offer me a similar deal to this one listed by OP for my mobile but currently happy with my Gomo $15/month plan.

        • Did you try to cancel on the Optus account page to trigger a automatic $15 discount, or did you speak to human agent via chat and threaten to cancel your plan? I'm Wanting to keep the line but not pay $25/mth.

          • @xdigger: Used live chat to cancel my original Samsung tablet plan

          • +1

@xdigger: I spoke to a human via chat, didn't threaten anything just asked to cancel my current plan as i was looking at reducing my outgoing monthly costs and also didn't use the plan much. They asked some details and if i could wait a couple minutes, they then came back and said would I be happy on the new 20GB Optus Choice Data Plan with $15 credit for 12 months on a month to month basis.

It almost took me back to the late nights on Telstra chat getting discounts and bonuses.

            • @CheapGit: 1 rep only gave me $10 credit which I refused but another one gave me 3 months free for 30GB so I went with that.
Will comback before 3 months do see what they offer.

  • Does anyone know if this requires a credit check to sign up to (like the jbhifi deals)? I am trying to limit enquiries prior to applying for a home loan later in the year.

  • Just chat with them. It is only available for new cutomers who port in from differernt provider . If you are with optus atm just ignore it. They never give such benifit for their existing cutomer.

    • it lets you sign up as an upgrade through the portal giving the discount.. I wonder if it will go through.

      • @Thrillhouse87 Can you please explain how to upgrade through the portal?

        • +1

Same link, fill out it out using your mobile number and it says not eligible to port in, must use upgrade and a upgrade button appears at the top.

Click refill and the discount and everything stays there..

  • -2

SO many cheaper pre paid options on the full Optus network why would you?

    • +5

This is a good deal for those wanting to subscribe to Optus Sport, as you can get it for $6.99/month instead of $24.99/month

And 6 months Amazon prime on top ($9.99/month)

      • +1

If you are committing to optus sport for 12 months the price is $199 not $24.99 a month

  • +1

Does this plan work alongside esim number sharing for Galaxy Watch 5?

    • The online sales agent said yes it does, for the additional $5 per month

  • Thanks OP .. moved to Optus .

  • So is this better than the boost deals?

  • +1

Not available to existing customers :(

  • This is perfect, thanks Op!

  • Only downside no international calls
Tried with chat for $29.50 - Medium Choice plan 100gb data but got response its only for nbn customers

  • +1

Managed to bag the 100GB plan for $29.50 with no current Optus services via chat. Great deal as my son is obsessed with EPL via Optus Sport :)

  • I easily managed to get the 100gb plan for 50% off per month. Not even an Optus or Optus sport customer.Rep forgot to add the credit, however another rep later added it for me no hassles

  • Jumped on the chat to see if I could shake down free numbershare (for my watch) prior to completing the application. The chat consultant tried to tell me - despite me looking them to the web page - that I'm only eligible for the 50% off if I have Optus sports.

So I told them this contradicted the online campaign website, closed the chat and made the purchase myself using the application form. This type of thing seems to happen a lot with telcos - they need to have a better strategy around educating consultants on new offers, and to also get them to actually read the website when the customer refers them to it!

Once my SIM comes I'll try and see if I can get a deal with the numbershare e.g. 50% off as well.

    • @LeoSpaceman did it go through? Looks like it's hit and miss at the moment.

      • +1

Yep signed up fine. Haven't sorted out numbershare yet though.

  • +1

i just tried signing up to this, signed up for the plan on the website on friday, optus just called me and told me that i’m unable to get this 50% off deal because i don’t have an active optus internet plan, and they canceled my order?? doesn’t make any sense

    • +1

Same experience. Was told on the phone I was not eligible for Optus Sports discount or the plan discount and that I was welcome to port but it would cost me 49/month. I was attempting to port in from a prepaid Boost account. It all seemed too hard tbh.

      • Just did this without the sports. Did it via chat. Said that I don't do any sports.

  • Just ported from Telstra. Did it via chat
    - While I can get the 100Gb plan, I need to be on the 30Gb plan for 30 days. I don't know why. Maybe so the sales person gets a kicker
    - When asked about sports, I just said I don't do sports and that stopped all questions.
    - Added numbershare for $5pm. Had to be transferred to someone else to get this done.
    - The port to Optus took 10 mins.
    - I bought a physical pre-paid SIM last week as I knew I was going to port. The operator said they couldn't use it and to use e-sim. I said I already have an e-sim and how many I can have. The answer was one. Guess what, we can use this physical SIM now…..

  • Warning: SIM card auto activates "within 4 hours" after delivery. So if you're out and about when the SIM gets delivered and your not back for a few hours, fair risk of being stuck without service as your existing service will abruptly cut off.

  • I just received my estimated first month bill
    $59.00 100gb plan=$59.00
    $59.00 plan 50% off=$29.50 discount
Device credit =$29.50 but don't have device

    First bill =$0.00

  • +1

Looks like this offer is now extended to 11/9

    • +1

Tried to sign up and got the crap about needing to sign up for internet or a second service

      • +1

Disregard, it's all working now but talking to the online staff is like banging your head against a wall.

  • Does anyone know if the student discount works on this too? Im on the same plan, but paying more. My plan manages to get 100gb data with special student discount and a data bolt on. I can see i can 'upgrade'. Will my extra data and student discount carry over?

    • Just so you know, Optus and Telstra student discounts never overlap with anything. It sucks.

  • +1

Was very easy to sign up. Didn't have to chat to anyone (I don't have any current Optus services.)
I was going to do the 100gb but ended up doing the 30gb to see how it goes. Anytime within the 12m I can upgrade to the 100gb plan and it will still be 50% off which I thought was good. I also just assumed I was now locked in for the 12m but it is month-to-month which was a nice surprise.
    Great value imo.

  • Tried unsuccessfully to port from Telstra via chat. Avery told me via online chat “This 50% discount is only for the customer who have active service of home internet or mobile service.”

Sounds like some of the above comments about woeful customer service may be on the money…

  • +1

Signed up to this offer online on Monday. Today Optus called me and told me the promotion ended last September and I would be getting charged the full price. Going to move to a different provider

    • +1

      So much inconsistency from them.

From the email (I don't have any active services with them, just an ex Optus Sport subscriber):

50% discount: Eligible new Postpaid customers who sign up a new number or port in to Optus on a $49 Optus Choice Plus SIM Plan will receive 50% off the monthly plan fee each month for up to 12 months. Reverts to standard price after 12 months. Discount does not apply to excess charges, add-ons or device payments. Excludes Business customers. Not available with other SIM plan discount offers unless specified. Discount forfeited if you cancel or move to an ineligible plan. This offer is available in selected channels only. Maximum of 5 discounts per account. Ends 11/09/23.

Warning to anyone else, not worth your trouble - my Sim card was shipped to an old address of mine (10 years old, I guess they keep their data long and haven't learnt from the data leak at all). Called multiple times and they assured it was corrected.

Now as others mentioned, it was delivered and the number was ported despite not being delivered to my current address. The quest and effort to get this resolved continues and hours spent already has probably cancelled out any savings 😡

    • A solution to your issue would be to treat your situation as if you lost your sim. If you got the time, go to an optus store (make sire you bring ID for verification) and say you lost your sim. They will give you a replacement sim card and transfer your service to the new sim card.
