AirPods Pro 2

My right AirPod has died due to a known issue, but Apple have said I'm not eligible for a replacement due to some weird date cut-offs (purchase between X and Y, but must be manufactured before W…but we also have no record of when you purchased).

Any good deals on AirPods Pro 2? I'll take cheaper prices, cashbacks, price matches…whatever works.

The cheapest I can find is Officeworks at $338 (down from $399 on Apple)…which feels like a good discount, but because I technically should have been covered by the known fault, I'm reluctant to spend any more than I absolutely have to (don't mind me, I'm just annoyed).

TIA.

Edit: The issue is a loud static sound whenever one of the AirPods is used. The requirements are that AirPods must be purchased within the last three years but be manufactured before October 2020. Apparently mine were manufactured quite a while earlier than the latest manufacture date for this program, and I didn't receive them as a gift until late 2020 (the person who bought them for me wouldn't have bought them so far ahead of time). I do realise that this is beyond the statutory warranty and this is based on Apple's good will and/or acknowledgement of a manufacturing fault…but the program exists and I meet the requirements. The frontline Apple staff on chat were saying that late 2020 is more than 3 years ago and so they cannot process it any further. However, the AirPods are virtually unusable. I've gone through three different levels of help over the past few weeks, all of whom have said that I'm not eligible based on the dates I've given (even though they are within the identified period). I did get the issue escalated today, so I'm hopeful that they will be able to help me out.

  • whats the known fault?

you're out of warranty i presume.

    • How can OP be out of warranty if the AirPods were released September last year…

If it is a manufacturing defect and not accidental/intentional damage Apple should provide a remedy under warranty even if it's outside a weird specified date.

Also, remember you still have rights under the consumer law as clearly, your AirPods weren't reasonably durable.

I suggest getting a second opinion whether that be going to another Apple store if possible or calling customer service again stating your case.

  • Have you cleaned the terminals in the charger?

    • I don't use them that much, only when I'm on public transport or trying to tune people out at work. I did clean them a few weeks ago, just to be sure, but there was nothing really to clean.

Unfortunately, I've gone through every troubleshooting for physical and software issues, but it's something to do with a sensor that Apple identified in their 'AirPods Pro Service Program for Sound Issues'.

      • I had a similar issue with one not working. Inside the charger one of the terminals was green and corroded, once I got corrosion off it worked again.

  • Whats the known fault ?
Why can't you provide them with proof of purchase or a bank statement ?
Why would you want to buy another set after that ?

    • The known fault is loud static playing through the AirPods in either ANC or transparency mode. It has been acknowledged by Apple as a known fault for the first version of the AirPods Pro.

I don't have a proof of purchase because it was a gift.

Everything I own is Apple, and they offer ANC and transparency modes. I haven't really looked at other brands, but I'm not sure there are others that offer the same functions and ease of use?

  • i just ordered some "homage" AirPods 2 from dhgate. reviews are good. they are for my youngest teenager. they will probably lose one or both of them with in 2 weeks.

  • Hi OP, I have got the exact same issue as you (my right AirPod) and also didn’t get them replaced by Apple (bought mine Jan’20). I’d be interested to know if your escalation path will work 🤞
