be quiet! Pure Power 12 M 1000W Power Supply $199 + Delivery @ PC Case Gear

440

ATX 3.0 PSU with full support for PCIe 5.0 GPUs (12VHPWR included)

Found it while trying to decide whether to buy the EVGA SuperNOVA 1600W P+.

I ended up going with the 1600W EVGA because I am already running a EVGA psu so I don't need to replumb my cabling. Also didn't like the fact that the be quiet uses some kind of 5pin sata power cables and only include 2 sets for 3 sockets 😑.

Ah jv. Not one to be told what to do.

      go to your naughty corner

      • +2

        Jv might enjoy that.

  • ah ffs. Just bought and installed a different one yesterday!

so I don't need to replumb my cabling

Just be careful about this, sometimes the wire pin out is different even if all the ports are the same even within the same brand and/or product stack

    • +4

Learnt this the hard way and blew 3 HDDs :/

    • +3

Good practice is to ALWAYS use the new cables when running new gear. Not everything is as it seems or logical.

    • I've been burned by not replumbing, even replaced rmx with rmx.

Still rocking Corsair AX860 Platinum from 2011, been wondering how much life its got left.

    • +1

If you're not stressing it, plenty. It might have lost a few percent off its efficiency, but it'll run just fine. I have lots of PSUs from the 00s still chugging along.

      • +1

Yeah, I tried getting GamersNexus to answer the question but no luck. Seems a good quality PSU will go quietly without taking out the whole system so might as well keep it until it stops working.

He's too busy roasting LTT this week ;)

          • +8

@Kill Joy: They deserve it. Linus is a straight up self admitted sell out and everything GN said was justified imo.

          • +1

@Kill Joy: Love this. Hate LTT.

        • I tried getting GamersNexus to answer the question

Like, did you leave a comment on his youtube videos? Or send an email about tech support?

          • @DiscountForThee: YT, Twitter

            • +2

@reactor-au: Okay just as some advice - it is almost certain that a big creators of the level of Gamers Nexus is not going to respond to specific, niche tech support questions about other products in a youtube or twitter comment. Sure, they might do it if they are bored and already have conclusive evidence about a product, but they definitely wouldn't spend time finding out the information for you

              • @DiscountForThee: It was more a general question of "should you change your PSU after the 10 year warranty expires" kinda general question

                • @reactor-au: You can test your power supply.

                • @reactor-au: We have a load of 10 years old servers running, they've been 24*7 running high power profiles.

Occasionally, but rarely, does a PSU fail.

I would not worry about a desktop PSU that spends most the day turned off or at low power.

            • +1

@reactor-au: Best to ask a smaller channel if you want replies, imo. I follow frame chasers on YT and he answers a lot of the comments/questions I put on his videos. Even GN is wrong sometimes and he points out a huge mistake here which ended up costing gamers money. Heaps of people got denied RMA on their 4090/4080's because graphics card manufacturers deemed it as user error and referred to GN's video testing as evidence to avoid covering the cards: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H_-uE9nXEi8

@Tythefly86: I like how manfacturers will use someone's youtube video to deny warranty but wont when the situation is the reverse

    • Same, chugging along beautifully without breaking a sweat.

    • Mine died last year. 11 years old, powered on every day. Wish it had lasted longer cause I would still be using it.

  • No, you be quiet

I have a be quiet power supply (1000W Platinum) and would not recommend it for a silent build. When under low load (like web browsing, watching videos, etc.), it is the noisiest component in the computer. Before upgrading my graphics card, I used a different brand of power supply where the fan didn't spin if the power was under 40% or something similar, which I prefer.

I am rather sensitive to noise, so my opinion may be different from the norm.

    • it is the noisiest component in the computer

Is this from the fan? Or is it the sound of the switching power electronics?

      • It's from when I power on the machine. Even in the BIOS. I'm assuming it's the fan. Is there a better way to tell?

    • +2

Yeah I'm the same hate noisy components, I have this 1000w PSU from Super Flower and never hear a peep out of it running a 6900XT and 5800X. It sometimes goes on special for $199

Support NVIDIA® SLI™ & ATI CrossFireX™ High Performance Graphic Card

Woah, ATI support! That's good to see?

      • there is an eco switch - does it make a difference in terms of noise?

        • +1

Yep if I turn ECO off I can hear the fan spinning, if I have it on basically I never hear the PSU at all

      • I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to noisy components. Thanks for the link.

The only 2 other 1000W Platinum models are the Dark Power Pro 11 and Straight Power 11, both running a 135mm SilentWings 3 FDB fan which measures 10 ~ 11dB(A) up to 50% load

I am rather sensitive to noise, so my opinion may be different from the norm.

You definitely should be running a hybrid Zero RPM PSU if 10 ~ 11dbA is causing you issues

      • +1

        Thanks for looking into this

Although I don't have a noise meter, I think it's louder than 10 ~ 11dbA. I can hear it when outside of the room and over the CPU cooler.

I'll contact be quiet to see what they recommend.

        • +2

Saw your post confirming it is the Titanium Dark Power 12 1000W

Compared to the Platinum models, you are still running a 135mm FDB but it is a custom frameless Silent Wings fan

Specs say <10db(A) up to 50% load so very high chance your fan has a mounting issue and/or needs replacement

Definitely speak to be quiet about the issue as their customer service is top tier

    • It's possible you have a faulty fan, which model are you using? I would email support and ask for a replacement given their marketing around being silent, they tend to be pretty good about replacing them from what I saw on Reddit and at various forums. That being said, I recently picked up the Dark Power 13 1000w and it is dead silent for me even when benching, so I haven't dealt with their support to confirm this personally.

      • Yeah, it could be a faulty fan. I saw others on YouTube and other forums having similar issues. I'll contact be quiet. Thanks for the advice!

    • Weird. I've got 600w and 800w bequiet PSUs, and both are silent at low load - the fan doesn't spin.
When gaming they do spin up, but remain smooth and quiet - not harsh and noisy.
      FWIW https://hwbusters.com/psus/be-quiet-pure-power-12-m-850w-psu… agrees:
"Up to 470W load, the PSU is dead silent, while with more than 580W, the fan’s noise enters the 20-25 dBA zone, which is still quiet"

    • I can't edit my post, but it's a Titanium PSU and not Platinum. Dark Power 12 1000W.

      • I have the 850w version of the titanium, I never hear it. I think the other guys might be right there may be an issue with the fan in yours. Unless your idle power use is for some reason higher than it shoulkd be making the PSU work harder than it should.

  • 1KW computer. Surely that’s too much

    • Depends what you are running in it.

  • Thanks OP, purchased in the hope it will reduce some of my GPUs horrible coil whine.

  • Ah dang it, already bought the Corsair RM850x Shift during the Prime Day sale.
