A few stacked deals here so bear with me.

First deal is being a "Friends for life" member (free sign up): -$62.50

Sure the RRP of $166.99 is a bit inflated, but for a 6 pack of the 15-30kg pack, $79 delivered is pretty good considering there has not been a Nexgard Spectra deal in over 6 months and they used to be almost fortnightly!

      Interesting. Usually I post the deal and wait a few hours before buying in case someone points out there is a cheaper way. This time I just pulled the trigger as I posted. Doesn't seem like this was a hack so should be still available when their maintenance is done.

        Guys, when I sign in, I can't apply VDHEOV. It says "Oops, the code entered is invalid."
        If I sign out or use incognito, it applies when signed out.
        The moment I sign in, it removes the VDHEOV discount.
        What can I do?

        Might be an urban legend … but I read the problem with this idea is that the active ingredients might not be spread evenly throughout the tablet.

        Of course, such a thing could have well been started by NexGuard!

          Of course someone in OzB could have made it up too! You just need to weigh up saving $5 on what someone on the internet said, vs the vet bill for the being sick or the worms, fleas, ticks, etc

          Easy fix.
          Crumb up the tab, to a fine mix, mix it up, split it in half, feed it.
          The other half, just ziplock it and keep it cool until next time. No biggie, I don't think.

        No you can't.

        Jeez, unless any tablet has a score mark (that line across the middle), you can't just cut it in half and assume that you'll get a half dose. The active ingredient isn't often equally spread throughout the tablet. So it's possible to get 3/4 of the active ingredients in ine half and 1/4 in the other.

        I actually thought about this for Nexgard, but two different vets confirmed that dog pills are the same as human ones and no score mark, means no guarantee of the active ingredients being spread evenly throughout the tablet.

        So you need to weigh up whether the savings of $5-10/mth are worth the risk of overdosing (no so bad on these) and the chance of underdosing so your pet gets fleas, worms, ticks, etc.

          I see what you are saying but surely the tablets we see were part of a bigger slab before they were punched out, or a longer column before they were cut up. How does the manufacturer know that each tablet has an even amount compared to the one next to it?

            @Mr BoMBAStiG: Because they're not part of a bigger slab. They're made in a tablet press using die (a mold)

            Noticed how human tablets tend to be round/oval and these are squircles. And how they're coated on all sides with an agent making it easier to swallow? You can't get that coating just cutting tablets off a slab. Imagine the wastage of you'd have just cutting those shapes out of a slab?

              @M00Cow: The tablet is for 15-30kg.. my dog is 10kg so by splitting a tablet it's unlikely she's going to get all of the active ingredient in one half and nothing in the other. Even at worst case if it's 3/4 of the active ingredient, that's 11.25-22.5kg and the 1/4 is 3.75-7.5kg.. both are pretty close to 10kg so I figured it should be ok. Can't be a major health risk if the weight range is so broad. Otherwise it would be like paracetamol etc where it's dosed by weight for children.

                @Chaffingbuttocks: Matey if you weight up the risks and are comfortable, good for you. But you're just guessing and some people might not be comfortable taking the same risks just to save a few bucks every month. But remember you haven't shown your hypothesis is true by testing the tablets. So telling people confidently that "You know you can just cut these smaller?" Is pretty disingenuous.

                Personally as a kid I've had a cat die and another go lame from tick paralysis. So I wouldn't personally risk a pet's health because I halved a tablet and they weren't dosed properly. The vet costs alone would nullify any savings. But again it's your hunch and if you're happy with the risks, good luck and I hope you're right.

          I understand some are to paranoid to break the rules but i get the 60kg pack and cut them in quarters….for 4 10kg dogs…some people are to scared to do anything outside of recommended instructions. Never had a dog that had fleas or any obvious signs of worms in 10+ years of doing this. It's not something they could overdose from and my Wife is was a Vet Nurse so i'm not worried at all about about it.
          Each to their own…it your money and your dog.

        Any one that says you can't do this because the active ingredients aren't guaranteed to be dispersed evenly across a tablet, is not considering that this then means there is no guarantee that the active ingredient in the larger batch mixing tank is evenly dispersed, meaning there is no guarantee that each whole tablet even contains the same quantity of active ingredient as any other tablet.

      2 products from pet circle:

      Aristopet allwormer (except heartworm), $3.30 per tablet, once every 3 months.
      Valuheart heartworm tabs, $3 per tablet, once a month.

      I've found those combo tablets that do everything to be hideously expensive by comparison. As another poster said, ticks aren't really an issue here unless you're taking your dog into the bush a lot and luckily my area is flea free, although i'd probably just treat that one where necessary.

    Just be aware that NexGard Spectra can cause seizures in dogs. Know 3 people plus myself this has happened to.

    Currently have 5 left in a 6 pack I’m about to chuck out.

      I'd love to not give my dog any worming tablets as you are effectively poisoning them and side effects can occur.
      I'd also love to never take a vaccine for anything again.
      Just need to weigh up the risk benefit and make your own decision you are comfortable with.
