  • These type of masks are A LOT cheaper on AliExpress. Don't pay the inflated prices on Amazon.

      I’ll happily pay more for Amazon’s fast shipping and excellent customer support.

        Ozbargain licence needs revoking

          I am with PainToad. Plus easy returns for something potentially gimicky like Bluetooth sleep masks.

          A bargain does not just mean the cheapest.

            @Lucille Bluth: What are you on about? I've been buying heaps of stuff from AliExpress and have never once had an issue with returns when there's a problem. Some of which they've even done an instant refund on when needed. Choosing the right seller is key there so noobs may face some pitfalls, but certainly not experienced Ozbargainers!

            • @clubhonda: Good for you. Lots of people have a nightmare experience with AliExpress but. Where possible, I'm happy to avoid them at the expense of a little bit more.

              • +1

                @PainToad: I'm with clubhonda, I literally now buy everything from AliExpress and never have an issue.
                To the point I'm in some platinum club thing now and can get some benefits Ive been too lazy to view.

                It's the Ozbargainers Mecca!

                • @Eulogy: Exactly, the savings are substantial enough to warrant finding out how to correctly navigate it, which is what a hardcore ozbargainer would do. Some people are casuals which is fine and I'm not judging.

    • These particular masks with controls on the front don't appear to be much cheaper on Ali. They're almost the same price, unless you buy in bulk.

  • Arent these v risky? For those who use it, are these good?

    • Risky how?

      I have one of the headband type (ie not eye mask, as I don’t like eye masks) and think it was a great impulse purchase for under $20. used it most nights for last 3 months. Musicozy from Amazon.

      The control module is that same with a different brand name so I assume the speakers are too. I use for in bed pre-sleep vids (yeah not great I know) and sounds/music to go to sleep or block out the kids in the morning.

      Pros
      * comfortable and stretchy band
      * can remove the pieces to wash band
      * sound quality decent for intended use
      * volume goes low enough
      * speakers are far superior in comfort than anything else I’ve tried when laying on side when I right place. I have an ecosa pillow so contours help with pressure.
      * no issues connecting
      * wife can’t hear them
      * no ANC but blocks out wife’s white noise and kids for most situations.
      * minor audio delay. I haven’t tried syncing it up as not used for things that matter there.

      Cons
      * no auto power off. Even with the sound off timer on phone. Seems like an obvious feature for a sleep device. Still get a few nights without charge as audio stops so maybe less power used on standby.
      * speakers can be shifted around in the pockets for fit, but if moved unintentionally can’t hear anything.
      * components remind me of the quality on a cheap RC car that only turns 1 way with reverse, if that makes sense to anyone… will be interesting to see how long it lasts.
      * looks ridiculous. The ad images of people wearing it to the gym! Just buy some earbuds instead.

        Great comments and review there. I've had an earlier model which I've used for years. Just to add on to what you've listed, some other cons are speaker quality, they're not deep inside your ear canal, so the sound is diffused and don't expect to hear nuances or aural fireworks on these. I use it to listen to audiobooks or podcasts while I fall asleep, which it performs admirably. The other cons are the super old charging connector, these are the types that old blackberries used to use which I can't even remember what they're called anymore, and consequently, no fast charging either.

        But they work, and if you use them to fall asleep, they can last for maybe a week before you need recharging (unless you have insomnia), and surprisingly durable for something so cheap! Really a case of cheap AND good.

        • They must had made some updates in last few years as mine is usb-c. Just had a look and It’s odd that it doesn’t even mention connection type in the ad though

  • The trouble with these, I’ve tried a few, they seem to use cheap speakers that are very hard if you’re intending on sleeping with them. If you lay on your side it gets very uncomfortable. These “might” be different? But I’ve tried three different versions and had no luck. Probably need to spend more than 20/30 for something better though so YMMV

    • Depends what you're trying to listen to and how sensitive your ears are to small flat speakers. These use controls on the front, which make side sleeping easier than those with controls on the side.

      I have a few aswell, my main issue is the flat speaker part doesn't really sit well near my ears. So I have to jack the volume up, but if I randomly move and somehow it falls into my ear or atleast closer to it, it'll blast my ears.. 😪

      • Yeah they're not meant to be used near your ear and at high volume - way too much of a risk if you run them all night. An option is to wear ear plugs to dampen ambient noise but the speaker would need to be on your ears as well. The dark black version and all the models with eye padding may be better suited for you as they're much softer near the skin.

        • Thanks for the recommendation!

          I have a beanie version from Jaycar and the classic OzB one that used to get posted here, the hippie headband looking one. The beanie one can't be used for sleep, the speakers are like hard pods, half the depth of an earpod case, buttons on side but has a light in the middle!

          I didn't realise the dark black was a different design. Had you had much experience with either OP's or that dark black version? I think the dark black looks more comfortable (for back sleepers) but I have a big head so maybe more bulky/less comfortable for side-sleepers? In that case OP's may be better for my situation?

          • @WasBargain: If you're predominantly a side sleeper, fiddle around with the speaker pods until they're right outside your ear, and you should be able to get away with a pretty low volume. If you're a back sleeper, slightly louder should be fine as they're not sticking close to your ear like it is in a side-sleeping position.

  • Just get a silk mask and play whatever music you want from a speaker. That way you dont sleep with all the weight of the gimmicks on your head…

    • Only if you're a bachelor and not dealing with a missus who doesn't want to hear whatever music you're hearing mate. It's different for people with partners.
