OP changed the link which was originally the link in the email that was causing issues. Refer to the revision history. That is what they were referring to, not exposing themselves as a sockpuppet.

They wouldn't need to sockpuppet, these are genuinely good deals anyway

  • Thanks OP, needed some cheap protein

Just buy the 500g pea protein from Coles for $10

        🤮

I'm all for pea protein but it's plain to see that stuff would be gross, it's more like a baking/cooking additive/powder than a sports nutrition supplement.

I got some 2kg Musashi plant protein from CW in may for $56 which is pretty good (half price, as an example).

        • I'm all for pea protein but it's plain to see that stuff would be gross

No it doesn't taste like a sweet milkshake but you mix a little bit of fruit and whatever "milk" you might use with it and it's fine.

I just drink it straight up with water. Nothing I would want to drink for fun. But gives you 20g of protein with only a small fat content and helps keep the water intake up! Plus the water makes it as easy as anything on the stomach for people that have those issues.

          than a sports nutrition supplement

Looking at OPs product ingredient list, not seeing anything extra in there that makes it a "sports nutrition supplement", just mostly marketing there. BCAA's is in pea protein powder too. Any other supplement worth its salt would be sold separately or you'd get from your tablet supps anyway.

          • @serpserpserp: yeah whatever works as long as you can handle the taste.
Taste, mixability and texture comes into it for most people.

In smoothies they are all alright.

    Thanks OP, great deal👍🏽

  • All 2 and 4kg soldout

  • Every time I got to the stage of paying the 2kg tubs had sold out.. grabbed 900g of the strawberry - thanks OP.

They sure made it difficult to look at the back of the container of ingredients listing. for that product.

I essentially just wanted to point out that all powders labelled mass are usually bad value.

The most used ingredient in that product is Maltodextrin, which is the carb source they've gone with, you can get a couple of kgs of that for about $10.
Then there's Whey Concentrate and Calcium Caseinate as the protein sources, which are both quite cheap to acquire on their own.

It's about a 6:1 ratio of Maltodextrin to Protein.

      • Yep but just pick up straight protein which is really cheap anywhere (like Amazon). I'm sure you can handle eating carbs yourself and don't need to mix it in.

        • "straight protein", lol. There are still a lot more variables to consider.

Mixing in carbs is usually necessary, considering that includes one of the high glycaemic carbs that we mentioned a moment ago(Maltodextrin).

If you've just done a strenuous activity, then your glucose levels will be low and you'll want to get that back up as soon as possible so your body can get back to running effectively for an optimal recovery.

          • @Beyond:

If you've just done a strenuous activity, then your glucose levels will be low and you'll want to get that back up as soon as possible so your body can get back to running effectively for an optimal recovery

If you are bulking I guess. If you are trying to straddle that line of tiny gains while cutting for abs, just wait for your next meal.

            • @serpserpserp: I disagree. Restoring your glucose levels after a workout is a critical step.

High glycaemic carbohydrates are converted into energy if your muscles and liver aren't saturated with it.

If your insulin levels are low, your metabolism takes a negative hit during that period, along with several other body functions.

There are different carbohydrates for different circumstances, calorie counting in itself isn't an effective tool, but it's still used by other trainers to help enforce a level of consciousness towards their clients' eating habits.

I was previously a personal trainer and at a point, obsessed with nutrition and aesthetics-bodybuilding.

Anyway, I'm getting a bit carried away. It's a shame that this deal expired a while ago, as it would have been nice to get a little bit more reading traffic over some of these posts.

        • Cheap, cheap, cheap. That seems to be your only concern. Great advice.

          haha, well this is OzBargain!

He should just take skim milk powder and sounds like it would do the trick.after all dairy grows a calf into a 300 pound bull!

        • Literally stfu, he was replying to a comment about the mass gainer, not the gold standard whey. By being a smartass you actually made yourself look the dumbest in the thread.

@exit: Estrogen a bit high today or something? All my points stand. Buying the cheapest protein you can find is terrible advice. What’s the country of origin? What regulations/testing was it subject to? Full of god knows what.

            • @aja12: High levels of estrogen don't affect men in the same way it does women.

What points? You unpublished your comment. I'm sure it was filled with insightful statements.

I imagine the brand and product has been vetted quite thoroughly, considering it's sold all over Australia in Chemist Warehouse and other shops.

I'd say this brand would be a reliable choice if you're coming from no protein or something else that's priced similarly.

          • @exit: Was that unpublished comment from aja meant for me?

The listed product by OP had low stock and sold out rather quickly, so I didn't feel the need to focus on something that wasn't available anymore.

            • +1

@Beyond: He really thought he was doing something by calling you out for being wrong about gold standard whey when you were talking about the mass gainer instead (which you are not wrong about) That’s why he deleted his comment.

      • Id tend to agree with this but at the end of the day Optimum is normally a better tasting and higher standard then other protein brands.

Sure its a protein blend and isolate would probably be a better option - price wise itd be more expensive.

50protein/250carbs per two scoops is pretty reasonable.

Post workout carbs are more important than the protein in a lot of ways.

Sure source could be better but meh calories are calories and a little bit of creatine cant hurt.

        • 50protein/250carbs per two scoops is pretty reasonable.

Holy moly, 250g of carbs? That would be 2.5x the daily amount I need when I go into a short sharp cut. Most casual bros that are hitting the gym are already getting way too many daily carbs for their body anyway. Taking this would just add to the tyre they have around their waist no matter how much lifting and cardio they did.

          • @serpserpserp: Not wrong, easy meal replacement for some.

It does say mass not shred 😭

            • @micemeat: True. But unless your 12% body fat you probably don't need this!
