        wasn't there a deal not so long ago (in the last 12months) by the chinese government to encourage overseas tourists which had ridiculously cheap prices for accommodation and tours?

        It has nothing to do with the Chinese government! These are shopping scam. They take you everyday to some designate shops and high pressure sale to you. All they need is for you to buy one or 2 items to make their money.

        I was on one of these trip ($199 for 5 night). A member call the cop because the good he purchased is fake. After the incident, all tour guy deny has anything to do remotely with their government which totally opposite with what they trying to tell us before it happen (i.e.implying the trip is funded by the Chinese government).

        Altonic, the accommodation is alright on my tour. mostly around 3.5-4 star except the 1st night is close to 5 star.

      The tour is not first-class, (their english speaking guide were a bit hard to hear) but very very acceptable. We paid around $50 (at that time USD was stronger than AUD) but some people in the same tour paid AUD$150!!
