    • Wow, really? This is awesome, it's like $600 cheaper than the cheapest Mac laptop.

How do you tell it's compatible?

And you'll get $43 back from Microsoft Australia - reject the Windows licence agreement and spend 15 mins online at their refund call-center.

      • I never knew about that. cheers up for that. How do u do that mate?? whats the excuse for rejecting the agreement?

      • That would be awesome! Can you elaborate a bit more on how to go about it?

        • +2

Under NSW consumer law, you are not under any obligation to accept the MS licence agreement. You have bought the PC.

Call Microsoft Australia (13 20 58) notify them that you reject their licence, listen to piped music for 15 mins and you'll have to send them a copy of your invoice to get the refund sent a month later.

          See more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_refund

        • Thanks for the reply dude. I will give this a try even tho im in QLD.
          Cheers!

        • Is there time limit from when you bought your laptop?

  • is this deal online only ?

    • Please click on the in stock box (just below add to cart) then you will see This item is physically in stock and ready for immediate dispatch and also available in our retail stores. yes…you can pick it up .

      • Thanks theearth. Will go tomorrow morning to save shiping fee … :D …

  • the Lenovo E320 deal was better @ $383 and its 13". same cpu, fast HDD. Alas that deal has ended now.

    • Unusable trackpad apparently though. This deal seems legit but I'm after something in the 13" size range

I love laptops like this for workhorses. Throw em around, if they break, its a shame, but oh well, ebay $50 screen, replace it, away you go again….. etc.

Unless its a 'desktop replacement' cheap, and laptop are two wards I honestly feel you want to see together these days.

also, for any gamers out there, the Intel HD graphics onboard isnt nearly as scary as it used to be. You wont be running 4xAA with maximum settings, but believe it or not, its actually usable these days.
For an easy snapshot into what a weakCPU'd PC, with Intel HD graphics chips can run. look into things like the eeePC gaming charts. yeah its helped by its lower resolution, but still.

tldr? Specs are nice. Will do anything (games at lower quality, though); add an SSD and watch it fly for office work or web browsing!

    • How do you add an SSD to a laptop that already has windows on the C partition?
Do you just pop it in and Windows figures out the rest, or is there techie stuff to do?
(e.g. partition management, re-installation of windows etc).
So many cheap SSDs on ozbargain makes me interested in having one.

      • not that simple i'm afraid. quite techie…

Do you guys think all Sandy-Bridge-based laptops (and newer) will come down significantly in November when the Windows 8 pre-loaded touch-screen do-hickys enter the market. I want a laptop capable of some "fancy things" but I'm also cheap and patient…

    • No, i think the touch screen dohickys will compete against the apple and android markets first, and desktops\laptops based on touchscreen 'surface' will remain super expensive.

  • Awesome deal, I'll be checking it out today..

Okay guys and gals, I picked up up tonight. The verdict - it's not a bad laptop, but it does have some drawbacks.

    1. It's got one stick of 4Gb RAM, so it's not running in Dual Channel mode. Not that it means much these days, but it's worth noting. I'll probably stick another 4Gb stick in it soon.

    2. The laptop's hard drive is sloooooow. I plan on getting an SSD to replace it shortly. There's a rubber "chassis" that fits around the internal hard drive that says "9.5mm drives only", so be warned the stock Samsung SSD's you get from MSY won't fit (they're 7mm I think).

    3. The laptop boots sloooooow, partially because of the slow hard drive, but also because of the amount of cr*p that HP installed on it. I manually uninstalled all the HP stuff, the antivirus etc and put on my own. It's running a bit quicker now.

To really bring this laptop up to speed it needs an SSD and a fresh install of windows though. :) I just don't have time at the moment, I have an assignment due Monday and I needed a new laptop urgently. Perfect timing!

    • great review. thanks for doing that.

  • bought 3 of these. one for myself and 2 for friends.

got 120 gb corsair ssd installed. awesome deal for this price.

    • I have now installed a 2nd stick of 4Gb DDR3 (8Gb total), and a 120Gb Intel 330 SSD. Did a fresh install of W7 64-bit, the machine is now flying. Awesome value for money all up.

  • if only this was 13" or so :(
