The price per 100g is wrong on the website, it should be $1.50 per 100g.

    • +1

They based that off the individual choc (40g) instead of the bundled 5 pk of 200g… weird calculation

  • +15

These are devil food. Would recommend.

Looooove their dark hazelnuts and almonds, time to stock up for the year !!!

    • +1

The dark hazelnuts ones have the best value for money and nutrition and I often have them for breakfast with a nice cup of coffee!

      • +1

I have also pulled an esprsso shot directly on a small block of the dark choclate

        • The dark chocolate also is one of my favorite together with rice cakes. :)

    • +1

Omg yes! Dare I say they're even more addictive than the kettle chips chilli flavour

  • +3

Hard to beat Aldi imported chocolate $ per kg compared to coles and woolies offerings, guess competiting in Europe with other supermarkets you need good chocolate if you want to sell product and where Belgium, Swiss, German and French chocolate is their version of domestic / EU product.

  • +3

Bought the hazelnut for the party favour box on my daughter's 3rd birthday. Was quite popular

  • +1

Hope we get $2 Moser Roth. Haven't been on sale for yonks.

  • +3

Their prices have increased to reflect the market's ongoing inflation from (I think) ~$2.50 to $3 per piece.
News tell that chocolate (raw material) world market prices will increase considerably due to ongoing trade and political conflicts among western powers and Africa.
African leaders have said enough is enough, no more raw goods to western rich countries in exchange for peanuts!

    • +9

The problem is I can't buy more now & stock up because I have no self control & just end up pigging out.

  • +1

not sure if it is just me, but I find the dark multi packs taste different to the large block….might be just perception with the thinner choc? Would love to have a flavoured cream filled dark choc as well

    • I had the same thought! I bought the mini dark chocolate bars this week for the first time and I much prefer eating one row of the larger single blocks than one slab of the mini blocks.

      • +2

same. I like the fact it is easier for portion control, but I just don't really like the taste of the smaller blocks for some reason

      • it's the surface area is greater in the small blocks when you eat them , so more about physics and surface area vs chemistry and composition ….

    • +1

It's a mix of the different thickness/distribution of chocolate and fillings, and greater exposed surface area subject to oxidation/staling flavours per mouthful.

      • lol, either way, I don't really like the 5 x 40g blocks of their dark choc. I love lindt, so the thickness of theirs doesn't make a difference (although theirs is obv a superior product), but this one definitely does.

Chocolate is the only thing in Aldi that is actually a bargain, lots of cheap low quality items at Aldi but the chocolate is actually good quality at a good price.

    • +2

Plenty of other things too though Brah. This coffee beans post was popular.

    • +1

When you say only do you mean only?

      • He means only that specific one LOL

    • there's plenty of products that seem to be straight up rebranded and much cheaper than coles (some of their bread, ultimate yoghurt, their toilet paper etc). Plenty of bargains in Aldi..

      • +3

Just because it has the same manufacturer doesnt mean its the same quality, its usually a lower-spec version. For example, the toilet paper is made by Quilton but its a lower quality than the Quiton branded.

You wipe ur shitty bum with it, does it need to be 3 ply gold plated woolies premium blend

Id wipe my arse with a free newspaper if i read hardcopy newspapers

        • Is it really lower quality? Just curious, as I've not bought aldi tp before

    • everything food wise, imo, is the same if not better than woolies or coles, and the price is always beaten. Usually, the products are made in the same place, look at their chips (sprint) made in same factory as smith's and they are in bigger bags, cheaper, and much more flavourful

      • Nah. Probably store/locality dependent but ime their meat is VERY average, their fruit n veg is so-so (esp the out of season cold store stuff like apples), their block cheese ditto. Over all, prices are generally better as you say.

        • very true, meat I only buy on Tuesdays when they're cheap as dirt, I buy all my meat wholesale. and veg dairy products only on the whim that i forgot at woolies, I should of said most shelf products and their appetizers in the frozen section are incredible. along with their hamberg buns and ice creams

        • Meat from mount barker in the adelaide hills is unbeatable, but i think thats due to them sourcing locally? Honestly if i boight steak from woolworths or coles it was always a 50/50 chance if it was terrible or not. At Aldi i would say its a 99/1 split…. its just so rare to get poor quality meat. I 100% recommend the mount barker shop.

Same with their fruit and veg.

    • Strange that @CheapBrah. I'd have said the complete opposite. Apart from Moser Roth their chocolate is very average.

      • Yeah I'd agree. 5 years ago the chocolate was amazing, and you could buy 100g blocks for $1 and you could get them with honeycomb and jelly pieces and all sorts of addons. Now, it's okay but the price is nothing special (when compared against Colesworths specials) and it more resembles cooking chocolate.

  • I like the Woolworths Belgian Milk Chocolate Block With Salted Caramel 190g for $2.19 as much as most block chocolates but I ain't fussy.

    • +2

if they had it in dark I might give it a try, but I am not all that fussed on milk choc

      • Didn't have the salted caramel version but the plain was up there with the worst milk chocolate I've had for taste and texture. Hugely disappointing given the origin, but I guess not all Belgian chocolate is good. I wouldn't buy again even at an 80% discount (was half price when I tried it).

        • The Coles homebrand is better - it's a little smoother and milkier/creamier on the palette. But, yeah, set your expectations accordingly for a $1.15/100g block of choccy.

  • +2

Can confirm after rigorous longitudinal testing that these have significantly more hazelnuts than the Cadbury equivalent. eg with the latter, there are often a few squares that have no hazelnut at all.

    • cadbury is put to shame by this chocolate, there's 1 almond per four squares these days.. where as aldi's has like 6-7 almonds per line! its crazy! But i also find cadbury tastes average if that over here

      • Wait till you tried the UK imported… the local Catbury taste like sugar with oil.

        • uk cadbury is soo good! its not even comparable to over here other than the packaging

  • Is aldi chocolate comparable to Lindt taste?

    • +1

Tastebuds differ but imo the "award winning" (Canstar roflmoa) Choceur is poor man's European chocolate. Certainly doesn't have that nice smooth mouth feel of good Lindt or similar Euro made products. Last block of Choceur I bought was made in Germany, If you're happy with mediocre "every day" chocolate consider their cheap Dairy Fine (Asian-made now iirc). Moser Roth is better than both. Still not up to Lindt imo but as I said, tastes differ widely so best to try for yourself.

      Not a bad deal though.

    • +1

can't really compare them. I like Aldi Choceur and many of their blocks taste good, prefer the Moser Roth….but Lindt wins hands down, no competition.

    • +1

Given the drastic price difference, I’d say it might not be fair to compare.
Choceur is made in Germany and the dark chocolate and the milk coconut is highly addictive :) try it out!

  • -2

Do these chocolates come with sapphire or mineral glass? Do they wear big? What movement are they?

  • +1

Aldi chocolates are much better when compared to locally made Cadbury. Cadbury used to be good some years ago. But nowadays you need a hammer and chisel to break a Cadbury bar.

  • No white coconut. :(

  • -1

Comes in a pk of 5 or you just grab 5 and discount will be applied?

  • -1

These used to go on sale for $2 only last year.

I seem to find plenty of cheaper chocolate elsewhere.

  • +1

my picks are hazel creme & marzipan
