Outlook is just a different top level domain, but it’s the exact same platform as “hotmail/live” that the OP mentioned they don’t want.
But I’m not sure why. Gmail and Outlook are great: best availability, nice amount of storage, industry leading first party apps, spam filters and security. I’m not sure what the aversion is.
OP mentioned they don’t want.
They didn't mention Outlook.
It’s the exact same email service. They said:
What's the Best email service that's free besides hotmail/live
Outlook is hotmail/live. Same thing.
@jv: Same email service, which was the exact wording the OP used. They didn’t ask for a different domain.
They didn’t ask for a different domain.
I'll quote them….
What's the Best email service that's free besides hotmail/live and Gmail?
@jv: You’re a bit thick aren’t you?
An email service can host multiple domains.
Go here and have a quick read:
https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Outlook.com
Outlook, Live, Hotmail are the exact same email service. And given that the OP asked for a different email service to hotmail/live, Outlook is not a valid answer - because it’s the same email service.
Had the OP asked for a different domain, then Outlook would have been a valid suggestion, but they didn’t. They asked for a different email service.
@mboy: @jv is just trolling as usual
@kerfuffle: Why? Do you have an issue with people using the Outlook domain for their emails?
@mboy: Never argue with an idiot.
They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.
How many service providers do you need? Open multiple accounts in gmail.
https://proton.me/mail if privacy focused.
Gmail for shopping orders & spam. Make sure you use AMLagonda+amazon, AMLagona+shop etc.
I hear Proton Mail has positive reviews.
Only 1Gb free though, as opposed to 15Gb with Outlook/Gmail
Gmail (and probably Outlook too) give you 15GB free so they can farm the data for advertising.
give you 15GB free
I have over 6TB available…
@jv: On your own private storage or a cloud? If cloud - Google Workspace hack?
@Chandler: Office 365
Just for clarity on this, TPG aren't actually selling the free @tpg email accounts, they are actually just shutting a heap of those down claiming they aren't being used enough.
The bit they are selling is the business web hosting and email services where you need to have an ABN and a domain name such as example.com.au registered with TPG or Internode or IINet all that business hosting has been sold or will be to VentraIP.
Its a bit of a strange opt-in system they have, probably to save money so they aren't buying customers that don't want to transfer over in the first place.
This should clear things up.
Stupid since they insisted (till I left them recently) on sending billing etc to their tpg email forcing me to use it.
Yeah back when I was on iiNet ADSL they did the same thing - billing to your iiNet email address. I just had my normal email account pulling the emails in from the iiNet account (via POP3 I believe…)
Yeah a few people on Whingepool have mentioned this as well, plus they use the email for your NBN login with some providers as well. I believe TPG do this as well actually.
Gmail is fine for basic stuff does the job. At least its hosted or cached in Australia where as a lot of those other free providers store your email data overseas.
iCloud. [email protected]
Or Jd72hajao65g@icloud if you hide the email
I use Zoho, with the zohomail.com.au Domain
You only get 5Gb with them but that's better than most of the more obscure providers.
Combine that with DuckDuckGo's email forwarding to hide your actual address from spammers.
Are you currently using an email client program to access your TPG email? If so, you may be able to continue using the same email client program to access gmail and outlook email, so the change won't look any different to you at all.
But what is wrong with using gmail/hotmail?
The benefit I've now come to realise with Gmail is that I'm not tied to an ISP. I previously used @optusnet email but upon leaving Optus for a better internet deal, I lost the email address.
Gmail and the like are available regardless of ISP.
But what is wrong with using gmail/hotmail?
nothing.
But what is wrong with using gmail/hotmail?
If Google/Microsoft blocks the account for whatever reason, you have noone to call and nowhere to go. And you lose all your "linked" accounts too :)
With Apple (iCloud email) you go to Apple Store.
Proton or Zoho would be my recommendations, otherwise buy out a domain and pay like $1 or $2 per month for email hosting
otherwise buy out a domain and pay like $1 or $2 per month for email hosting
or free if you or someone you know has a reseller account.
Perhaps the internet has moved on, but I use two European email providers, one I pay a couple of bucks a month for, and Proton, which is free, for a bunch of reasons.
They don't require me to run an email client, so I can access my emails on any device that has an internet connection and a browser. The down side is that I have to check for new emails, I don't get notified.
They are the ones turning my emails into something human readable, and sending that to me over an encrypted https session, so I don't have to be concerned about nasties in them. Their malware protection is better than anything I can afford.
They are storing all the emails I want to keep, so I don't have to worry about backing them up and moving them to any new computers I get. The downside is if they go under I lose everything. But you run that risk when you store your own emails. Their backup tools are better than anything I can afford.
They do spam filtering for me. I just tick the box saying spam, and they send anything from the same email address to the spam directory the next time. Interestingly, it doesn't work with Kogan.
The one I pay for lets me create aliases that emails sent to go into my main inbox, but which I can create at 15 minutes notice, and destroy when no longer needed, so I can have different email addresses for different purposes, and have temporary email addresses for communicating with people I might not want to be able to keep sending me annoying emails.
And because my email providers are outside Australia, and outside the reach of Australian law, should I want to be anonymous I can send emails which no legal process in this country can identify the sender of.
