Looking for Small Form-Factor USB Drive/Device That Has Built in RAID 1 (for 2x SSD/M2.SSD) ?

Hi guys, I am wondering if there is such a USB drive that allows you to pop in 2 x SSD or 2 x M2 ssd to work in a raid 1 configuration?

I have a portable SSD that I always use for work - and i frequently back this up onto the PC just in case it developed an issue - so am hoping there is a raid 1 drive that offers a bit better resilence against failure and what not.

I google searched but didnt come across suitable links.

Anyone has any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

  • something like a Hotway HUR6-SU31C or this startech?

    • Thanks mate. I didnt come across these before.

      Which one would you recommend?

When the SSDs formed a raid 1, if any one go kaput, can i just pop in another stick and it will auto copy over the existing data?
I couldnt tell what filesystem these uses - any ideas?

      Thanks again

      • "NOTE: Not compatible with M.2 NVMe or AHCI PCI Express SSDs"

Note this is for M.2 SATA SSD's

        • Yes it is a bummer.

  • ORICO do a dual-bay M.2 enclosure with RAID which is what you're looking for: https://www.amazon.com.au/ORICO-Enclosure-Adapter-Support-UA…

Seems out of stock at the moment but may be available somewhere else.

    • Thanks bro. that one looks to be perfect!

p.s. seems like it does not support NVMe drives - which means very selective SSDs will work….

      • Good point, probably why it's out of stock since SATA not preferred nowadays.

There's NVMe versions but they don't seem to have RAID support for some reason.

      • The orico one is garbage, get the ugreen version.

        • do u have the link bro for that one?

  • I've looked at this before and have only found one portable M.2 NVMe drive, as the rest were all M.2 SATA or 2.5" SATA.

This Chenyang enclosure is expensive at US $124.97 and does everything you need. It'll take two M.2 NVMe drives, supports RAID 0/1, JBOD with USB-C 20Gbps and an additional USB-C port for power input.

    • Thanks mate. That is certainly pricey.

do you have a link for the 2.5" SATA version as you mentioned?

      • +1

Harder to find the 2.5" SATA one. It's on this listing under "Color: DB2502B-A" and looks like this

        • Thanks mate. That gives me something to investigate.
