Was looking for a powerbank and stumbled across this deal on Amazon.

Seems like the standard sales price for this powerbank.

From Amazon description:
- Fully recharged Sense 8+, the 30,000mAh capacity gives 4 full charges with Nintendo Switch, 6.3 to iPhone 14, 5.2 to Samsung S22, and 2.6 to iPad Pro.
- Charges QC-support devices up to 80% in just 35 minutes
- takes 11 hours to fully recharge the 30,000mAh power bank with a 18W wall charger

From previous posts, seems like:
1. Can travel internationally and domestically if airline has 100-160Wh guidance, dependent on airline and if you have permission to bring aboard
2. Has to be in carry-on baggage
3. 30,000mAh x 3.7v / 1000 = 111Wh;

    1. Can travel internationally and domestically if airline has 100-160Wh guidance, dependent on airline

The key here is you need to ask permission to bring aboard. Dont ever assume thats its ok because you got away with it before.

    • +1

Excellent point. Edited post to include that as some airlines do require permission :)

    • -5

We've got 3 of the previous model (same specs, different case - has a display). We travel with at least 2 of them in carry on (usually in the same bag) . Never once have we been asked about them. This is domestic with Qantas, Jetstar & Virgin (and probably Tiger) alas well as internationally with Qantas & Jetstar & Jetstar Asia. Over the last 4yrs and there'd be at least 30 flights.

Where would they pull you up, security screening?

      • +3

Usually when they screen for electronic items. Laptops, phones, cameras, loose batteries like powerbanks.

Again. Like i said. You could have gotten lucky and they just wave you through but all it takes is that one time they dont. And they decide to confiscate your powerbank.

        • -3

          Nope not lucky, they're 99.16Wh.

People just love making stuff up.

          • +4

            @M00Cow: 30,000 mAh is 111Wh.

Are you sure you are not confusing this with 26800mAh powerbanks?

            • -3

@xoom: Oh the box & listing say 30000mAh, the case even says "30+", but the specs sticker says 26800,mAh 99.16Wh.

              • +3

                @M00Cow:

but the specs sticker says 26800,mAh 99.16Wh.

You got sold a 26800mAh powerbank perhaps? Or the seller or manufacturer is doing the dodgey brothers. Eitherway. Dicey trusting either.

      • +2

Correct, I was stopped at the x-ray and asked for a permission form from Qantas. This was in Perth. I suspect it's just who is checking the x-ray.

      • +3

Never once have we been asked about them.

Up to 4 years jail if not declared as dangerous goods and you get caught…

        • I put my escooter in checked luggage jv.

          • @Clear: Just strap it to your back as hand carry. šŸ™ƒ

          • @Clear: Obviously you would have received airline approval first.

            • @jv: There was no check in desk or security at the airport. I am the pilot.

        • -2

          Nope, they're under 100Wh,

          https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/baggage/dangerous-gā€¦

Lithium Ion battery (rechargeable) - not exceeding 100Wh
          Battery requirements
          Airline approval required No

          • +2

            @M00Cow:

            Nope, they're under 100Wh,

No they are not, they are 111Wh

          • +4

@M00Cow: Nothing in that site says anything about 30,000mAh powerbanks are under 100Wh.

            They are not.

All the qantas site says that they will allow any powerbanks under 100Wh without permision.

30,000mAh powerbanks are well over 100Wh.

Thats why 26,800mAh powerbanks exists because its the closest to 100Wh without going over.

        • Just like rich people going to jail for not paying their taxes (or murdering someone)

          • @Sinnerator: and poor people not going to jail for the same reasons.

      • Ive been pulled up at security screening. But they only seem interested in bomb testing mine. (Has happened a few times now). It must look pretty funky on the x-ray.

        • +3

There's probably some confusion here because Romoss made a "30+" powerbank at one stage that was actually 26,800mAh / 99.16Wh

          See this one I have

          • +1

@Gracey: That one is clearly different to the one in this deal.

      • At security, like they did when I transited through China with this exact model.

    • I have a 30k power bank and I put it in my back pack.

Have been scanned through many times without issues.

But please note it is a risk im willing to take.

      • I'm sure OzBargainers will be happy to visit you in jail when you are finally caught and convicted.

Taking undeclared dangerous goods onboard is up to 4 years jail.

          Rental crisis solved

This would be great for prepping (power an iphone for a week) or leaving in place to power devices (striplights etc) where it's difficult to run cables.

Okay okay okay I admit I just want to buy one and am inventing use-cases to justify it.

    • Thanks. Helped me decide because it was cheaper before.

    • +1

So basically. You are just being an average ozbargainer

    • +2

You actually have to be careful with striplights and these, I've got some Luminoodles I use for camping and I'm pretty sure it was one of these powerbanks that would power them off after a few minutes. I reckon they don't draw enough power and the powerbank turns itself off.

    • Mine is a life saver.

Take it over night wherever I'm going. Leave the phone plugged in, it's only down to 85%.

  • +2

The 18W 20000mah is also $29.99 from RRP: $48.99, the other product option on the page.

I got the 30000mah version that OP posted in 2020 for $35 each. Certainly not pocket sized but it's a reliable, big capacity charger and still going strong.

    • +1

I got 2 back in 2019 & another in 2020, they've been great. Been great for travel, camping or even around the house when you want to play with an almost flat screen. We've also got the Zyron 20000mAh ones for their size.

      • +2

        Been great for travel

As long as you declare them for air travel.

    • I must have got mine in 2020 as well, and yeah, still going strong on my end. Always take it camping and it works great

    • Those 18W max delivery 20mAh/74Wh capacity ones look good at that price of thirty bucks; I wonder is it worth future proofing a little by getting the 30W max delivery version of same capacity when it comes back on its irregular sale price of around $42? Will many phones take advantage of that now or in future?

  • I paid $33 for this last year.

  • 18W seems pretty slow charging to me

  • I have this model and travelled internationally few times. We had no problem. Device works well.

  • I have one of these and not even 1 year out - it just died and I'm stuck with a dead battery

    • +1

You can either contact amazon support for refund, or you can use it as an explosive.

    • and not even 1 year out

According to the Rep, contact Amazon. Warranty is 12 months.

    • +1

I've found Amazon very helpful with warranties.

    • I've had mine for what must be 2yrs+ and still going strong.

The neg would be slow charging.

      • This is the biggest drawback I find. I have this one, a few like this but with the LCD display and 2x Romoss PEA30 chargers. I find the standard ones, like the one in this post, fast charge at around 18w for about 85% and then slow down until eventually they're pulling 9v, 0.1a for the last few % which take HOURS to get through.
The PEA30 however happily pulls 19.9v @ 1.7a until it hits 100% which as I learnt last night is only about 3 and a bit hours worth of charging time (a far cry from nearly a day for ones like this). I plan to replace them all with the 30w variants after discovering this as the long charge times is a real problem with the number of devices we power.
Also the 30w charger will run a laptop while the standard ones simply refuse to charge it.

        • Thanks for sharing your experience. There's not enough detail on the romoss site to figure some of this out.. I wonder if this one is in the charges quickly category or not really. Also I don't quite understand their description of what happens when you concurrently charge more than one device from these.. the description seems to suggest they charge at a combined total of 15W which seems pretty weak: "[Type-C] 5V/3A, 9V/3A, 12V/2.5A, 15V/2A, 20V/1.5A, [USB A] 4.5V/5A,5V/4.5A,9V/2A,12V/1.5A, [Type-C+USB A+USB A] 5V/3A"

          • +1

@Horacio: Correct, you can fast charge one device at a time but the moment you connect a second device then it just reverts to standard charging which is a pretty significant drawback.

We've got 2 of each (Sense 8, Sense 8PF and PEA30) so it's not a problem for our circumstance, but adding additional units isn't always an ideal solution, especially if travelling.

The one you listed above seems to be one that supports the faster charging as in the picture it shows USB-C Input with 30w, I tried to validate this on their website but the only one I found was riddled with ads and just felt more like a shop compared to what you would expect from the manufacturers site.

            • @MrKnowItAll: Thanks! Without particularly needing PD yet, it seems there's not a huge advantage over carrying a couple of my ancient 10W packs for another year or so until some better circuitry reaches the cheap power bank devices.

  • I've got one purchased few years back, it's great & holds the charge. It works on my speaker, camera, Bluetooth devices, etc. However, it doesn't charge my Samsung Note 20U & the 20+. It's not compatible, so check it if works on your device before purchase.

  • I have this when most countries open for tourist and recent vacation to ASIA (Korea, Japan, Thailand, & Singapore) and business trip to 1x to Holland & Austria, via Dubai
all of them fine, trip in ASIA need permission and always taken more time when they check your hand carry
need to wait reps from the airline comes to see the item
For any reason trip to Holland and Austria, I just pull up my laptop and battery as normal
they don't ask or touch the batt at all.

  • Own one of these and about 4 of the 10,000mAh variety. Been going strong since 2018. Took it on my trip to south america, no issues with flights. was paired with my switch in my carry-on. can't go wrong, especially at this price.

  • So the size is the same bit 30k and 20k models?

  • Did anyone else get punished with an Aramex undelivery?
