$2.80 for Everything in Store at Daiso

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Just found this place in the Melbourne CBD, apparently there is one is in Doncaster too. There's a massive amount of stuff in store and their thing is it's all $2.80 for each item. Hope someone finds this of use. I'm going back for a big explore later on.

    RRP $2.80 - not a bargain…

    • its still cheap..

What if the RRP of the Galaxy S3 was $100? Thats still a bargain even if the price is at RRP

  • wish they open one here in bribane..

their other branches sell items at 100Y in japan and S$2 in singapore..

    • There is a similar store in Sunnybank Market Square. Most of the stuff $2.8 .

  • In Sydney there's one in Chatswood and (any day now) a city store in haymarket will be opening. This is their normal pricing….like a 200 yen/$2 store I think

    • There is already a store at 580 George st Citysupercentre I think its called. The one at 727 George st will hopefully open any day now (it was supposed to open early August) $2.80 is their price.

  • Its RM5 in Malaysia. $1.60..

    • It's 100yen in Japan - AUD 1.25 :)

        105yen because of tax…

        • Oh yeah forgot about the tax, good point.

          Make that AUD 1.31…

    It's their normal price.

  • Daiso?

not a bargain. $2.8 is normal price. should be less than 2 bucks.

  • Not a bargain, has always been $2.80. And based on overseas Daiso prices, should be <$2.80.

  • As much as I love this store (there's one in Chatswood, Sydney), this is normal price for Daiso, and probably should be in the forums.

    • Like I said in my post down the bottom, if you pay $3 for something that would cost $7 (for a directly comparable product quality wise) then it's still a bargain, even if it's the person's usual price. Maybe not quite the point of Ozbargain but if someone had posted this months ago I would have been saving lots of money since the CBD one opened, rather than stumbling upon it by accident.

Leave it up, haters will hate but some folks might get value from it anyway which in the end is what the site is about yeah?

Daiso has been around for ages, what rock have you been under?

    • I've never seen one before and it's never been posted here, now I will be buying heaps of stuff there

      • I don't even live in Melbourne but I go there enough, there's a $3.50 (now $2.80) store down Bourke st, just after the Target. 'Tokuya'. been there for about 2 years now, maybe more.

  • The amusing thing is that if you look at the origin of some of the goods, it is, you guessed it, China.

  • Basically making 80 cents (more) profit for everything sold in a $2 shop

    • The goods are producted for the Japanese market, and are of higher quality than your average $2 shop. Some of the ceramics are actually made in Japan.

      • Some are and some are just the same stuff you could get in a variety store.

I thought it was a $2 store when I walked in, had a quick browse and it looks like the quality is better. Tinge will tell on that one. The range kicks the butt of any $2 shop I've Ever been to

In Singapore …. everything is $2 at Daiso…. that means 1.6 AUD roughly ……..

    • +1

Yep, and in China a can of coke costs about AUD0.60 but I am not sure what that has to do with anything. Different pricing for different markets because there are different costs of doing business. It's extremely simple economics, you don't even have to have gone to uni to know that bit.

  • OK, yes, $2.80 is the normal price for Daiso and that's fine but the fact that some of the products in store cost $2.80 is a bargain in my opinion.

Some have said it should be $2 but it's not actually a crappy $2 shop the products seem quite good and of reasonable quality.

Just because something is the normal price for something doesn't make it any less a bargain if it's a cheaply priced example of that kind of good. For example, today when I was there for 5 mins (I had somewhere to be) I bought a pack of 5 mechanical pencils (basically the same as Pacer ones from Officeworks) for the $2.80, cost about $7 at officeworks. That's why I posted this as a bargain, not that they were having a sale.

You can acknowledge it as a bargain or not, it's your perogative but seriously, if you are saying that something costing $3 instead of $7 isn't a bargain, just cause $3 is what they normally charge, then there's something a bit skewed about your point of view.

There's being a bargain hunter and then there is being something else entirely. I hope anyone who didn't know about this place gets some value from my post.

  • I totally love this store and went looking for it in preparation for my trip to Melb next month. I knew it was in one of the outer suburbs. I was tickled pink to see they are in the CBD.

I do feel a bit cheated that the prices are $2.80. I have been to the Singapore shop and tried to find one in Bangkok. If this shop has the same items as the Singapore shop, I will be happy.

Floating around, thought I'd throw my two cents in. I'm a massive fan of these stores after discovering the $2.50 store in Sydney about 3-4 years ago. I went to a Y100 store in Japan and found I already owned some of the exact same products that they had imported here. and Japanese quality = good.

Since I feel compelled to share..

Sydney CBD - Maruyu $2.50 store
    - also with a downstairs supermarket with Japanese treats, not $2.50 though
    Clarence st

    Adelaide - Kawaii $2.80 store
    - recently opened, opposite Sushi Train
    Gouger st

Melbourne CBD - Tokuya $2.80 store
    - used to be $3.50 but I'd still stock up every time I was in Melbourne, too poor to go to Sydney frequently and long before one opened in Adelaide!
    Bourke st, just after Target

    :)

    • Thanks. I will be sure to check out that Melbourne shop next month.

  • Wish I knew about this last week when i was in Melbourne - thanks for posting… good excuse to go back to melbourne
