Platinum Curidas PKN-7000 retractable fountain pen in Urban Green Medium Nib.

They have other colours and nib sizes at different prices, but all around ~$60. Usually around $100-$150 locally. Yodobashi Camera have them for ¥6,240 or ~AU$66, usually ¥7,700 (AU$82)

I'm a fan of Platinum pens, prefer them over Lamy and other fountain pens and recommended for people interested in trying fountain pens but don't want to pay heaps for other brands. Other pens they have are the Preppy and Plaisir pens that are cheaper too.

  • Wow; this is basically Pilot vanishing point, but from sailor in my cheaper, that’s a great find!

I got the moonman, the Chinese knock off andnits pretty good. But this is an actually good brand that’s actually a good price..

  • Love the preppy. This is a great deal!

  • Any good for manga? Looking for fountain pens good for drawing XD

  • Nice but I have already 14 fountain pens. Want but must resist.

  • Abyss blue back to over $101! 😮

  • I didn't know Platinum had a retractable! Low price to boot, great for gifts. However, refilling looks a bit faff for heavy users (students). The nib has to go through a long spring everytime. My daughter said it might be too much for her. Seasoned users should be fine tho. *Edit: Bought one for her anyway. Thanks OP.

PS: Pelikan man is a closet Platinum fan because he's got a Nakaya :p

I'd recommend checking out the Majohn A1:

Looks like a copy cat design of the Pilot Vanishing Point - reviews seem positive as well.

Hey mate, thanks for the heads up. I read that the Curidas can suffer from a cracking problem around the nib.
I just ordered a Majohn A1 in Fish Scale… It looks fricken awesome and gets great reviews as well.

        TIL

Feed cracking issue on first batch has been fixed

1:1 copy of the curidas existed, but I could not find a Lanbitou 3088 on sale anywhere… but at $55 I'd just buy the real deal anyway

      • No worries - hope you enjoy it!

It's a nice pen to use. I use Platinum blue black ink on mine, and left it there without using it for few months, and it didn't completely dry out. Since Platinum Blue Black is an iron gall ink (mild modern version, but still), I think that is a sign that it has a really good seal which is easier said than done.

I will mention that it feels almost industrial without it being polished out. There are a lot of parts that feels like it could've been polished like the massive spring that could be pulled out too easily, how the locking mechanism is 3 parts that feels like you have to assemble the nib unit whenever you want to fill the ink, the grip section that is girthier than other pens etc etc. It feels almost like they had a design that worked, and stuck to it without polishing it for the user experience. It doesn't necessarily mean the pen's bad, but it doesn't have the polished feeling that Pilot Capless has (well I guess Pilot had decades of design refinement so I think it makes sense).
