  • Good post! Currently using it via iTunes but family not an option.

  • Thank you for yet another cheeky vpn deal ! Can I add members normally or do they need to sign in via vpn too? And once set up, don’t need vpn right?

    • +2

I haven't tried adding members. To be on the safe side , I would use VPN ON to add them. After you sign up no VPN required.

    • +2

No need for a VPN. It just generates a link for you to send to them.

I've added 3 people without any issues. (2 in NZ and the other in Brisbane)

      • +1

Would you like to add another person? " A friend of mine" would very like that. Can pay upfront too

      • Awesome! I was just wondering if I could add family members who live in other countries and you answered my question!

    • If you sign up for the family plan and are looking for someone to split the cost with, please let me know :)

  • Love this hack! Thank you

  • +5

    Arigato, Sensei!

  • +3

    Obrigado!

    • +1

      Arigato!

  • So I don't need a virtual Turkish card for this one?

    • +1

Thx OP! As Fishballs' comment, do we use the virtual Turkish card? I'm kinda saving it for my Turkish Netflix (since we can't top up anymore)

      • No need to use your virtual Turkish card. Revolut it's recommended.

      • Have I missed something? Can we not top up Oldubil anymore?

        • Following this. I cannot top up Oldubil. They don’t currently accept international transfers :(.
Waiting for an update on another post.

          • @Mikael: I did a transfer yesterday which is meant to arrive today, will let you know if it worked. I used the method from the game pass thread.

            • @Fishballs: @Fishballs When I tried yesterday it came up straight away receiver bank don’t accept international transfers. Looking forward to the outcome. Hope it works. Have to wait few days as used 2700 already. (Monthly limit)

              • @Mikael: Where did that come up, were you using wise to do the transfer?

                • @Fishballs: Nah, Revolut

                  • +1

@Mikael: Someone commented on the Xbox thread that it worked for them using the bank "Garanti Bankasi" rather than VakifBank or whatever other ones.
Curious if that works myself, but don't need to top up again for another little while.

                    • @Deviner: @Deviner thanks, I keep an eye open for it. Was 40 short on YouTube year :(
Also seems like the card doesn’t work in Google play anymore either (Turkish account). Since last week. So they probably on to it.

                      • @Mikael: Yeah I think slowly, everyone is catching on! :(
I'd only test with a small amount of money if testing other banks, just in case.

            • @Fishballs: Any money in the account? My deposit limit is up again because of new month.

              • @Mikael: @Fishballs Yep, money came through. Transferred 400lira
                In Oldubil now.

  • +1

Nice! Not sure if it is still the case, but for those of you with VPN, set country as india and you would get unlimited while you are accessing from india

    • +4

      Unlimited what?

  • +34

We probably should all learn to speak turkish…

  • Anyone tried the family deal yet?

Just wondering if you can be in seperate countries. Spotify very strict everyone needs to be in the same home which I think they police at the country level.

    • needs to be in the same home

FYI although address needs to be entered after that they don’t care as far as I am aware

I have friends and my brother on my account and two of them live interstate and the others are at least a 2 hr drive away.

      • I'm the same and I've never been checked. All I've shared my plan with have just entered my address upon signing up

    • +1

If you sign up for the family plan and are looking for someone to split the cost - please let me know :)

  • +2

Also any other language deals via VPN i'd like to learn Croatian but these guys dont have it? if anyone does that would be fantastic

    • +1

So a quick look for you croatian is on pimsleur, falou, mondly, drops, funeasylearn, ling, simply learn languages, bluebird, tobo. A lot of them would have cheaper prices in turkey etc.

    • The price of the Yugoslav breakup is - less significant for Western consumerism.
But, you can learn Esperanto & reverse-learn Croatian via Zagreba metodo: https://esperanto12.net/hr/
      Bonŝancon. Sreĉno ;)

      • The price of the Yugoslav breakup is - less significant for Western consumerism.

funny enough you can learn 'HIGH VALYRIAN' and a large part of GOT was filmed in Croatia

  • can I use a prepaid mastercard gift card so im not linking a dodgy address to my bank card?

    • +3

You can give it a go. And let us know how you go.

  • +3

Anyway to skip the 14 day trial?

    • +2

Would like to know this too…

      • +1

"Auto-Renew Notice: You will be automatically billed at the end of your free trial for the subscription term and price you have selected unless you cancel at least 24 hours prior to the end of your free trial."

  • Thank you king

  • Are their mandarin courses any good?

    • +1

I'm learning Mandarin through it, my better half speaks Mandarin and has been impressed with my progress

    • as someone who has OKAY day-to-day spoken Mandarin pieced together mostly through lolly wrappers, but can't read and write it i think spoken is fine, but the reading/and i guess writing(?) component not so much.

    • +1

It's pretty good if you're consistent and do it every day.
Remember that's it's very textbook so it's better if you practice with someone on the side, maybe once a week with a tutor or something.

Some chapters are a bit annoying, for example I learnt to say "Dogs and cats are our best friends" first, then "Where is the train station?" much later but that was way more valuable.

  • +2

This is awesome thanks scrooge, you are single handedly continuing my Japanese education with this.

I love this app, can definitely attest to its method of teaching too, things are definitely sticking in my brain and I am beginning to recognise symbols in sentences which is awesome. They must make enough money from subscriptions alone because quite literally the only advertisements I get on the app are for their Super subscription lol.

  • I am alwasy using Apple ID to sign in Duolingo, how could I use this to sign in on their website, there is no option for Apple sign in. When I using the same Apple email to sign in, it thinks me as a new user.

    • I figured it out by linking my google account

  • What languages are people trying to learn? I was never that good at foreign languages, particularly to speaking and listening (reading and writing I am better at acquiring, especially by traditional, old fashioned textbooks). I have basic proficiency in French, one of the easiest languages for an Anglophone. The Japanese I enrolled in at high school has almost completely been forgotten.

    • Learn a language that you can practice in real life. Itll be hard to learn french for me when i dont have french friends. Or learn a big language like indonesian/mandarin so u can to constantly practice in restaurants assuming you like chinese or indonesian food :)

    • Learning Chinese atm. About half way through the course. I find it's good for building vocab. Grammar teaching is so so since they don't actually explicitly tell you how grammar works, just put it in front of you and expect you to eventually get the hang of it. After skipping ahead a bit and having a poke around the whole course, Duolingo definitely won't take you to fluency. The level of conversations you'll be having are about what you'd expect talking to a five year old.

      • Never use Duolingo. Silly question but does the course just write and get you to speak or can you hear the native pronunciation so you can mirror when speaking?

        • The Chinese course has several kinds of lessons:
-A Chinese sentence is displayed in characters and read aloud by the app. You then either have to translate it in to English or sometimes you have to read it back in to your microphone.
-An English sentence is given to you, you then need to translate it in to Chinese.
-A sentence is read aloud in Chinese. You then write down the Chinese.
          - A Chinese word is displayed with four images or characters. You the pick the image that matches the word.
-A table is displayed with Chinese down one side and the pronunciation down the other. Match the two.
-One word is read out aloud while four words are displayed. Pick the word with that matches the recording.

There are other slight variations but that is basically how it works. All non-English sentences and words are played aloud by the app so you get a feel for the pronunciation. You can also tap the individual words and it will play it aloud for you.

  • This has been asked before but I cannot find it, what choices are there for a free Turkey VPN?

    • +13

It's called Geo-pricing. No cheat here, just saving money. The site here it's called OZBARGAIN

      • +1

Even if it was cheating, imagine asking people to feel sorry for the owner of a multi million dollars company 🤣.

    • Have you seen the pricing? On top of that evidently they don't need the advertising revenue because the only ads they spin are their own for their super subscription.. given that I am sure they're doing just fine.

    • 10 years on OZB? Hand in ya licence and see yourself out.

    • -1

I cant bring myself to do it either jebs. I also worry about the legality. Remember when music companies were sueing individuals for torrenting a few songs? Thats what i keep thinking of.

  • Which is a good VPN to use for Free?

  • +2

FYI: You get billed for 12 months rather than monthly. Never mind! it was mentioned in post

    • Thanks. Good to be aware beforehand.

    • +1

its like.. $29? I'd half consider paying 3 years upfront like the xbox deal lol

  • Awesome deal signing up today

  • Most excellent timing!

  • +3

    Time to learn Turkish finally

  • I may need a maths app.

    What does this mean ?

    Family TL₺41.67 (~A$2.36)/MO
    12 Months TL₺499.99 (~A$28.29)
    1 Month TL₺52.99 (Really?? )

    • +2

Sorry mate. I am not good at doing tables. Family plan it's 12 Months TL₺499.99 (~A$28.29) it comes to TL₺41.67 (~A$2.36) per month

      The 1 month plan it's a different plan that's 1 Month TL₺52.99

      • Thanks. I blame myself for not having coffee yet.

  • gracias hombre grande

  • Great find OP !!

    Just grabbed it.

Are we ok to use the 14 day free trial ?

  • I think you have to sign up to the two weeks trial ?

  • Time to plan for 6 member OzB family & get optimum value from family bundles ;)
Ni havu familian amuzon kun Duolingo :)

    • I'm up for that!

    • I'd be in for that

    • I’m in.

  • +2

Sadly duolingo gets a little bit less good every year. They keep canning popular features. Last year it was the very popular forums (except the word linked ones). This year it was the very popular zoom classes. i loved those so much. 😭 the app becomes dumbed down over time too. I think they are targeting children as a main revenue source but also trying to have their cake and eat it too by pretending it is still for adults also.

    • +3

Can't argue with that at all. Doing the Japanese path and it really feels like it's changed the target to be tourists and not the general language learning like it use to be.

  • I flicked VPN using an iPhone, created an account, and then added the billing info.

When I logged in on a webpage, I got the following info in my "Manage subscription"page.

    Next payment
On Aug 14, 2023 you will be charged TRY 499.99 for 12 months of Super Duolingo Family Plan

So, it looks like you can sign up that way ?

  • Can you save deals to your OzBargain account for later? Unfortunately my current Aussie sub is through the Google Play store so I'll have to wait till that expires before it allows me to manage a new plan.

    Edit: Bookmarks found. Great deal.

  • +1

Does anyone know whether there is a way to get cheap Brilliant.org subscription?
    Thanks

    • +1

looks like turkish VPN brings it down to about $8 a month, not as good as other deals unfortunately

      • Thanks. Is there any free/simple VPN solution that I can try to fly to other countries (like India/Argentina,…) to check the price?

        • +2

Tunnel Bear seems pretty good as a free VPN, I use NordVPN personally

    • Also want this lol

  • If I have a Google account with Turkish payment, will this also apply to me without VPN stuff?

    • +1

typically yes, however then your account is region locked to Turkey. No Aussie apps for you.

  • Does anyone know how to skip the 2 weeks trial and go straight to the subscription page? Thanks

    • +1

Nvm. Have just found out that I can start the free trial and the subscription will commence after the trial.

  • paid full AU price month ago :(

  • +1

On the Billing Info, where you enter the card details, leave as Turkey or set back to Australia?

  • Thanks OP got regular plan :)
