This Kincrome set might work out better for those with stock near by

The Sidchrome are better being that they are geared

      • +1

        You’re right, overlooked that

  • Can't tell if this is a good deal

    • +2

I got this get set for $180 a couple years, have been great. They come with a lifetime warranty and are reversible. Eva is high quality as well.

      • convinced. ordered.

  • cheers OP, ordered.

  • Thanks op, nice set

  • Thanks ordered! Cheap for a set of geared spanners

  • Very tempted, I have all the sizes, but ratchet spanners are nice.

  • That’s a steal. Cheats op

    • once a cheater, always a cheater

  • +1

    What does geared mean? Ratcheting?

    • That's it, can be handy for tight spaces.

    • +2

Might be wrong but geared means there is a direction lever. If there is no geared wording, you have to turn the spanner over to change the direction of rotation.

      • Hope this is what it means otherwise it's just a ratcheting set.

      • Makes sense, one way ratcheting mechanism has teeth but no second gear.

  • Might be better to wait for a gear wrench set, these are double ended box geared, the gear wrench sets are combination so this is 8pc compared to 12 or so. I think the gear wrench ones have been known to go for about 80 bucks, these might be a bit nicer though, or people might appreciate the brand or the Eva insert type

    • These aren't double ended box geared.

      • Sh!t eh you are right, the description or the picture is buggered. The title and pic seem to be 12 pc, but the description clearly shows each piece as having different sized ends. If these are 12 individual I am buying a set, anyone can confirm?

        • +1

Buy it. I've googled and YouTubed. It's a 12pc combination geared spanner set.

          • @lomie: These deals and the ones a couple of weeks back have made my day, I had a full imperial set stolen from me by unscrupulous movers, it's nice to have a decent set now to replace it for not too much money.

The gearwrench ones are decent but I have the grey finish and the finish marks easily for a tool, these chromes ones are much harder wearing and they are a sleeker/slimmer tool also. I don't mind the angled head either

  • +3

Geez all these Sidchrome modular kit deals, every ozbargainer will have a garage full of them shortly.

    • -1

I’ve been questioning how useful all these Sidchrome deals will be once cars are electrified. E.g., longer interval for changing brake pads on hybrids/EVs, no spark plugs/engine oil/transmission fluid for battery electric vehicles.

I can see reduced need for wrenching once I eventually make the shift to electrified/electric vehicles.

      • +1

It's a long way off in my garage that's for sure.

  • The spanners have a forward/reverse lever on them, which is unusual, because you can just flip it to change direction.

These ones are bended, guess it makes sense to have a lever.

    • +5

      Bent

    • +1

For straight ones, you flip over to change directions. For this set, you have both options and being bent, could be handy in certain spots.

      • What if they're neither straight or bent

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Grab one.

Doesn't really need geared spanners, but…I can't resist.

    • You will need them one day. When the day arrives you'll be extremely happy.

      • And if it does make you extremely happy take it as a definite sign you need to get out more.

        • +1

Simple pleasures. Enjoy the small wins as well.

  • Perfectly fits the sidchrome tool cabinets I have these last few deals, guess this is joining in.

  • mmm tempting, but I can't remember the last time I used a spanner. Anyone know how many degrees the swing arc is?

  • +4

    In-store only, delivery option removed.

    • +1

      Haha OzBargained.

  • deciding whether to get this or the gearwrench from totaltools with flex head for $40 more. How often do you all use the flex head? I mainly work on cars and around the home time from time

    • +1

of the few times ive used the gearwrench flex head, about half the time the flex head has been to bulky to fit where it needed to go

    • Flexhead can be lifesaver but it will not be my go to. They are flimsy and can be very annoying if you have direct access to the fastener. It's always better to have both sets.

Just looking up sidchrome stuff and noticed these.
Seems to be quite cheap for those who need it. Doesn't have an rrp so im not sure what it usually is but im pretty sure its not $30. Ive bought smaller sets with just the torx bits for the same price at bunnings. This is less than $1 a piece

    • Definately also a good deal. But looks like they are OOS most places

    • got these on the last deal very handy set

    • Don't use these on impact wrench especially air.

  • TYYYYYYYY OP been looking all weekend thank god i waited tool set is now complete

    • fkkkkkkkk oos at the local will call brisbane stores when they open

  • Thanks for the post, appreciate it.

  • +1

Call your locals up they’ll send you a quote to pay and are happy to ship $70 all up

    • Do they email/text a payment link?

      • +1

Yep got mine emailed to me

    • Is this only for stores that show in stock online or is there stock on hand not up to date?

      • Likely if it says Out Of Stock, it'll be out of stock. I had to track down the screwdriver set a couple of weeks ago, and I called a bunch of stores that had it listed as "Low In Stock" but when the on-site staff looked for it, they couldn't find any. One store gave me the stock figures for each store in their system. Some stores that had 1 or 2 in their internal system couldn't find them on the shelves. I eventually reached a store that still had two on the shelves and I bought one. So I can't imagine you'd have much luck asking stores that are showing zero stock available.

  • I thought the open end was also ratcheting

  • Cheers. Ordered this last night and picked it up this morning. Was hoping either this set, or the 16 piece non ratcheting metric set would surface at these prices as it was the last thing missing that I wanted to fill my Sidchrome collection.

I now have 8 different ones of these Sidchrome sets and I think I'm done unless the impact socket set shows up. Got most of them from the recent Bunnings and Sydney Tools deals, but I had two others from years ago.

    I've now got;
    1/2" drive metric set
    1/4" & 3/8" drive metric set
    1/2", 3/8", & 1/4" imperial socket set
    1/2" Hex Socket set
    Geared metric spanner set
    Imperial spanner set
    Screwdriver set
    Plier and wrench set

    • Are the ones from Sydney tools different from the 1/2 and 1/4 from Bunnings?

      • +2

Yes, the Sydney Tools 1/2" set was imperial and metric. The Bunnings set was metric only. The 1/4" set Sydney Tools has was just 1/4" stuff, whereas the Bunnings set was 3/8" and 1/4" combined.

I got the Bunnings sets as the deals were back in May. I already had the imperial sockets, so the metric set was what I was after, and I didn't need an extensive 1/4" set as it's the least useful size needed for automotive stuff.

  • +1

    Says in store only. Crap!

  • -3

I like Sydney Tools. I would rather buy from them than from "ripoff prices are just the beginning".

  • +1

It's funny you say that about the Big green warehouse. I feel the same way about Syd Tools.

    • whats wrong with them? i went into my 1st store last week to get the other sets. other then the computers being slow the selection was amazing compared to totaltools or tradetools

  • Thanks OP, got the last set from Midland, WA. Unfortunately they didn't have any left of the other 2 kits I was interested in.

  • Thanks purchased.

  • i look forward to all these being plastered all over facebook marketplace and 2 and 3 times the price offered here

    • Everyone wins… The shop for selling, the middle man for a getting a mark up and the final buyer getting it for less than the advertised price at that point in time.

      • … except the people who would genuinely like to buy one now at the sale price but are unable to because some want to profiteer?

  • Managed to grab one at my local store. They had about 15 sets left setting on the shelf at the front of the aisle so must have had a bit of interest in them and moved them into a more prominent location.

  • Looking for a set in Perth. No local stock.

  • i managed to get the last and only set apparently, the staff member seemed a bit bummed about missing out. quality seems fine, i was expecting them to be bit more solid / thicker for lack of a better word, Also not sure why they are so grubby with fingerprints and marks. the box was new and sealed in plastic. if i paid more id be returning them

    • My experience is that the quality is in them being thinner, but still up to the job. Many Sidchrome spanners have been nice and thin for decades, on the flipside sometimes on a stubborn bolt it can hurt your hand a bit more if you are pushing against a thin edge of a spanner, but I've always preferred it

      • makes sense

    • I mostly use ratcheting spanners when the working space is tight (eg car front quarter panel internal nuts) so the thinner the tool the better.

If a nut is highly torqued I'm using a socket set with the biggest handle I've got not some thin ratcheting spanner to dig into my baby hands.

      Horses for courses.

  • Might be interested in the cabinets if they are discounted at this rate. Have the two socket sets and now this.

    • the sidchrome cabinets are still $ i was just looking at them. the supercheap 22" cabinets where good for $180, spewing i couldnt afford one when they were on special.. im wondering if the giantz brand on ebay is going to be ok or not.

      • I bought a couple from kmart about 15 years ago for $80, about 1/5 the price of sidchrome at the time.. They are 95% the quality of sidchrome etc. Shame they no longer sell them.

        • Well, Kmart is no more the Kmart that we used to know, now it is exclusively Anko, the bottom of the scale of brand quality.

          • @Bluering48: And if it is good quality, it is quickly replaced with something of lessor quality.

  • Thanks OP! Got the last one at my local :)

  • -2

A guy who works there told me they only sent 4 sets to selected stores. I went there planning to spend a couple of hundred $. But when they had none of these left I didn't bother.

  • It's Back to the Original Price of $199 now.

  • Thanks OP, ordered on Monday and received today - not many stores had them in stock. Great deal.

They seem to be of good quality and I'd rather one set of decent spanners than a bunch of cheap crap in my shed/toolbox.

  • Got my two. Only received one to begin with but after contacting the store all soughted. These are my boys "boxes of glory".
