Its quite upsetting how little refinement went into the "ultra" camera. Its so capable in theory.

Still an amazing phone otherwise at this price.

    • -1

Software is Motorola's Achilles heel , they still can't get it right !

  • Why no expandable memory?

  • Does JB Hi-Fi price match when a promo code JULY10 would be used in this deal?

    • +2

depends on your luck with the sales person. Some are willing and some will not allow anything except basic matches. You can try on live chat.

I got same 10% on eBay and used 10% discount eBay gift card I got earlier and claiming GST back on my trip overseas soon.

    • Winning!

    • How do you claim GST on trip? Isn't it only for tourists?

  • -1

I bought pro model in the last jb deal. Tbh, this is the worst phone I'v used.
    UI is not friendly.
    Fingerprint is always broken.
App is not stable. Like okta verify keep fail to check android version until reboot.

    • I bought pro model in the last jb deal.

      ultra ?

    • @sohomel Is this 30 pro? That's not good.

I may have bought a faulty Edge 30 in the May deal and having issues with phone calls etc. Big Motorola fan here but this phone is the most annoying I've used for basic functions. No change with Android 13 update. Have factory reset, cleared cache etc. Fingerprint sensor isn't good either and also on previous Motorola models. Thinking of returning if possible for a Neo.
Also purchased 2 x Neo recently (still Android 12) for family and they seem fine although not used much yet.

      • I have the Edge 20 and my only complaints is that the speaker can randomly go quiet and sometimes the touches towards the edge of the screen won't respond. Otherwise it's been flawless.

I was looking to upgrade to a 30 series. May have to reconsider.

        • Was thinking of upgrading to 30 Ultra but this article and other complaints online (mainly camera issues) put me off: https://www.evolvearenas.com/phones-problem/common-issues-in…

May have to wait for Edge 40 Pro

        • Got the Edge 30 Neo from JB for $270 a couple of weeks ago (after $30 voucher for joining their newsletter).
Upgraded from moto g 5g plus, which had a bigger screen (but IPS, not OLED) and huge battery life (but heavy).
But the Neo is a great phone for the price. No complaints at all.

But I am tempted by the Edge 30 Fusion.
Camera seems a shade nicer from the GSM Arena comparison https://www.gsmarena.com/piccmp.php3?idType=4&idPhone1=11635…

        • I had motorola edge 20 fusion, and loved the battery, but on closer inspection the camera is …… underpar. So I moved to a Pixel 6 PRO, second hand ( looks like new ) for $480, and so far the things I dont like are:
          - Fingerprint reader on screen, and curved glass, not because of the finger print reader, but because I have not found a good screen protector
          - Battery is good, but not comparable to the motorola
          - No SD card ( Not an issue so far )
          Positive difference:
          - Camera ( no comparison )
          - IP Rating
          - Wireless charge

      • It's 30 pro and it is very frustrating.

    • @sohomel @Clear Update: I went back to JB this arvo and was able to swap the faulty Edge 30 to 30 Neo.
No more phone issues. The Neo functions well.
However all 3 Neos we have are still on Android 12, Last Security patch 1 Dec 22.
@sohomel Hope you can return or swap the Pro

      • Would JB refund the price diff? Also I cannot just return it before migrating data to the new one. Do we need to prove the faulty function for the return?

      • My smashed the phone and got a small screen crack. Cannot return as it is.

        • @sohomel Best to ring a few JB stores to find out. Not sure if the cracked screen has to be fixed first. This is the first time I had to return a phone.

I had downgraded and there was a small difference in price. JB refunded to my payment method which is a gift card.

I chose the JB store that was willing to help. It wasn't the store I had purchased from. Another store I rang said they would return to Motorola for repair. Some users had reported online similar issues but they were not resolved by Motorola.

Also returned the charger, cable, case, unused earbuds, box etc.

JB didn't ask for proof. I had typed out on an A4 paper all the issues with the phone and gave to JB. This is handy as staff copied the info onto their computer. The phone is not fit for purpose and has major issues. According to consumer law, when a product has a major problem, we can choose between a refund or replacement. (For a minor problem, the business must repair for free but does not have to replace or refund.)

          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/problem-with-a-product-or-…

I still have my old phone and had already transferred back the data, then factory reset the faulty phone before its return. If JB can swap, you could probably still transfer to the new phone in store.

Hope you get a good outcome.

@trixieb: Thanks @trixieb for the detailed tips. I may have a try.

30 Neo is great for the price. Ticks all the important boxes.

    • Responding using one right now. Pretty good phone for that money, and I paid $420 not long ago.

      • +1

I just bought one for $299 from jb yesterday. I'm very happy with it so far. The only problem is that it doesn't have an SD slot. The G82 does have an SD slot, but it has less memory and it only has a USB2 connection - so no plugging it into a display. The camera is decent, but there's no tele camera.

  • How long does shipping normally take to the ACT? Keen to get the fusion before flying overseas on Wednesday morning. Unfortunately, JB doesn't want to price match (tried on live chat).

    • +1

I think it's generally pretty quick one to two days but depends how busy they are. Considering your trip on Wednesday morning I wouldn't risk it. Too many factors that can go wrong. Just grab it for $299 at JB hifi and use the $50 voucher as mentioned for accessories works out pretty close to this if you really need the phone.

      • Thanks mate, that's where I got too also. Maybe I'll have more luck with an instore sales agent. I need a new phone and the fusion seems like great value for money. Anything else you would recommend around the price? I was looking at the Neo because I like the smaller form factor but not sure if performance will hold up after a few years. Pixels seem good but more value for money here with the sale.

        • I think it really comes down to usage if your after a better camera and nicer phone the fusion is better. But if you want something ok to get you by on a budget the neo will nail that just fine.

At this stage for a new phone I don't believe you can get much better than either the neo or fusion for its price. If you head down second hand rout that's where it can change and you may get lucky with other models and higher spec phones but you lose on warranty length and being new.

  • +1

Got the Edge 30 Neo at Jb-Hi-Fi for $299. Added an accessory to get it over $300 for the $50 coupon from this deal
Also 5% off gift cards. I think I got a pretty solid deal

  • +2

    Any of these have eSim?

    • +1

      Not these

    • +2

the new ones, Edge 40 and Razr 40 do but they aren't on a significant discount yet, should carry on to the rest of the 40 series when they release

  • +5

I bought an Edge 30 ultra a few months ago. Biggest standouts for me are the speed of charging, the charger is insanely fast. The screen is lush, super nice colours. Android is very pure, almost no bloatware at all. There's not much I don't like about it.

    • Great feedback

  • I have an LG Q6 - mostly use it for emails, bit of web surfing, and listening to music. Should I get a 30 Neo or a Samsung A14s (5G)?

    • +2

30 Neo offers better value with its Snapdragon processor and charger included

    • +3

neo also has much more RAM (4GB A14 vs 8GB Neo) so should be much more capable in the long term. And the 120Hz OLED screen is much better than the A14 90Hz IPS. Even the camera is better with 64MP with OIS compared to a regular 50MP no OIS on the A14. Only reason to ever buy the A14 would be Samsung software updates (even though A14 doesn't receive the 5 years) and battery life.

      • +2

Thanks heaps @trixieb and @shxhshzhz that's very helpful indeed. I guess my main reservation going with the Neo is that the last Motorola I owned (Moto G) some years ago felt quite cheap (and was, now that I think about it). Hmmm. Samsung phones do feel good in the hand. But maybe this is residual worry or my imagination and no longer a problem.

        • +1

I do hope that quality has changed by now, it's been a while since the G was around. And the Neo is from a very different price category, not part of their ultra cheap budget E series.

      • FWIW I got a neo yesterday and it's been off the charger 10 hours now and it's currently on 83% battery. For only a 4ah battery it seems to have really good life.

    • +1

@blitz I picked up a 30 Neo yesterday from JB, swapped over from a faulty Edge 30. It's a slight downgrade but wouldn't make much difference to my usage. This is my third Neo purchase. Had recently bought 2 x Neos for the family and can recommend the Neo.

I had used Motorola G9 Plus and G5S. The Neo is an upgrade from the G series and original RRP was $599 so it's from a different class to the G series. Updates are slower with Motorola versus other brands though. (We had used Samsung Galaxy, iPhone and Nokia but prefer Motorola)

My family is still using the LG V30+ which is a great phone and wish LG still manufactures phones.

Here is a comparison - Neo versus Samsung A14 5G

P.S. There is NFC in the Australian Samsung A14 as the comparison chart had no NFC

      https://www.smartprix.com/mobiles/samsung_galaxy_a14_5g_vs_m…

      • @trixieb thanks so much for replying here with your experiences. Thanks also for the suggestion of the smartprix site, which I hadn't heard of. My last reservation is the size - for me, the 5.5" form factor of the LG Q6 is just right, and fits all my pockets. The Motorola 30 Neo is tempting though, and your experience is helpful to read!

  • i have the ultra, good phone minus the average camera and curved screen can be annoying at times
battery is the best feature which is why i got it and it delivers for sure

  • +1

I got an Edge Fusion from them and it turned out to be a non new phone. Box seemed to be sealed with that little round sticker, but after I opened up an inside packaging that houses some documents and the phone case, I found a delivery note with someone else's details from a few weeks ago, and upon closer inspection found some marks on the phone screen. Organizing a return now. Just wondering if anyone had similar experience or this is just a once off mistake?

    • +1

Never had that before from them. Might be a once off. Hopefully it gets sorted soon for you.

      • +1

Yeah should be all good. Just got shocked when I saw a delivery note to another dude inside the phone accessories packaging inside the box. Was so looking forward to the phone, will just have to wait a little longer.

  • Any thoughts on the G82 versus Oppo a96?

    • +1

      https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=11508&idPhone…

every part of the G82 is better, first of all, the A96 is 4G and G82 is 5G. In terms of specs, screen is much better (AMOLED 120Hz vs LCD 90), better performance, better camera with OIS and ships with a newer Android (12 vs 11).

    • If you have a happy experience with Oppo stay with Oppo. Too many about these Neo say great phone but this and but that

  • Neo showing as OOS

  • Damn, missed the neo. Wondering if I should splash out for the fusion?

    • +1

You can get a neo from JB for 300 and use the deal mentioned above to score a $50 voucher.

      • Thanks! Man, that throws me off. After reading and looking around for the last hour, I had pretty much settled on a refurbished galaxy a52s for $388 that has all the features I'm after.
Will consider the neo too as it's a bit cheaper.

        • +1

Probably galaxy a52s is still better than neo. Better cpu, expnd mem, headphone and long security update

  • +1

I smashed my Pixel 6 Pro screen for the second time and got a Moto G82 while it's being repaired (have a JB HiFi warranty upsell because it's otherwise an expensive screen replacement). I'm very impressed with the G82 and see no need to hurry back to my Pixel. [I don't game on my phone.]

  • My P30 Pro recently died. Was thinking of getting the Neo as a replacement.

I'm not a huge photo person or need anything fancy for gaming.

Would it be a good alternative?

  • Just wondering what people's thoughts are on these only having an IP52 rating versus many phones now being IP68. Losing it to the toilet bowel or wet pants from rain (this happened to me once!) puts me off.

    • I've never had a problem with phones getting wet from the rain.

  • Motorola Edge 30 Neo back in stock.

    • +1

      …but discount code is gone.
